I was blamed for that too, funny enough. There was a lot of threads in 8chan's /b/ saying I was behind it.
I don't even go to 8chan. Their /m/ is pretty much dead. I stick to 4chan's /m/.
I like to think that they're just seeing how long they can keep big active websites down. I'd bet they don't have an actual reason, other then to beat or set a new high score. Look at the MicroSony downtime a couple weeks ago, assuming it was actually them. It was the second christmas after the both consoles release, what other services would be running hot during that time?
I wonder how long they could keep Facebook or Steam down. What about Google? That would be an interesting event. If they could manage to knock out Google, that would be like the second or third time in the companies history that "google.com" would throw a 404. (To my non researched knowledge anyways)

Can someone explain to me why Lizard Squad is still a thing? I thought someone said they got doxxed but if that's the case, are these the same guys doing the attacks, or is there some larger part of Lizard Squad which is doing this? I would have thought getting doxxed would pretty much end the attacks due to the risk of retaliation.
