You don't shut down awful views with debate, you shut them down with action. "This is how it's going to be. Deal with it." Again, talking never solved anything in the long term; action does.

Power is nothing but a tool. What it's used for depends on who wields it. You can either use it for good, expanding the rights of women and their legal protections as we're proposing, or you can use it to curtail people's rights, which is what the Republicans are attempting to do here. Ironic when you consider, as others have pointed out, that their party rants on about how "big government" is bad and how they support individual rights... yet here they are doing this shit.

Imagine if we wasted time compromising and debating over civil rights and Jim Crow laws in the 1950s and 1960s instead of actually legislating change. Imagine if we had done this with same-sex marriage when we were trying to reach a federal consensus on it.

There's no compromise or debate to be had here. We're well past that. Again, it's either allowed or it isn't. Women are either given control over their own bodies, as should be their right since they're autonomous and sentient beings, or they're not. Pick.
