Remember that RPGs aren't really mass damage weapons. They're shaped charges, not HE filled explosives. They don't so much explode as shoot a stream of molten metal behind whatever they hit. So while it's pretty crazy that they found some; RPGs are actually probably less dangerous than a simple pipe bomb to the civilian population.
This is *generally* true but there are anti-emplacement warheads for a few RPGs. The RPG-7 can launch fragmentation or thermobaric warheads, and the SMAW has HE or thermobaric warheads, each of which would be much more effective against crowds of people.
The current use of RFID chips within passports enables such, but it can be bypassed. It's all a matter of effort, and the effort to actually bypass such security measures puts you into the level of requiring a country's security service to even try at. ISIL has no such means to circumvent said security measures without aid from a rogue government agency.

Thanks for the information man. Good stuff (disregard my other posts lol this is comforting to know). I still think that they should make security measures more strict and not optional. But what do I know?

I can see them getting their hands on the HE-frag rounds, but the thermobaric rounds probably aren't all that common outside of Russian security forces.
And besides, we don't know whether it was an RPG-7 or not. If it turns out to be something stolen from a European military that's pretty scary.

As gman003-main said, it really depends on the warhead. It's also worthy to note that there is plenty of mass-damage you can do with a HEAT round, passenger boats or other vehicles carrying high numbers of people are also target.
May be a controversial topic, but I think using less than humane methods to get information out of these suspected jihadists (at least the ones that are obviously terrorists, anyone who "could" be a terrorist shouldn't be put under this kind of treatment) is acceptable, seeing as one terrorist's information could potentially prevent hundreds of innocent lives from being killed.
Perhaps, but it invalidates the constitution. and as the saying goes, once one part of the constitution goes the rest is just a ticking time bomb.
Torture doesn't work. It's just for the satisfaction of the torturer. It's just a waste of time, effort, and money. It's much more effective to just negotiate the information out of them. Unfortunately I can't find the video of the CIA guy speaking about how he would negotiate, you as a viewer could tell how persuasive he is
Bin Laden's location was found through torture.
While it ->most<- always presents false information, like anything there are no absolutes.
targets
An explosive round would stop an armored van pretty quick, potentially delaying a heavy police response enough to get away or make things much, much worse. Use it at the beginning to make police much more cautious about entering an area, or at the end to "punctuate" how strong you are, and how little the police can do.
Also hard to reach stuff like planes or boats.

except it didn't according to the senate report, which i would believe over the CIA of all agencies
torturing people is fucked no matter the circumstances, there's no excusing it

Pictured: how to stop terrorism.
Not pictured: what Americans think is "stopping terrorism". (Ie. dragnet surveillance, killin' all them A-rabs)

There's no attempt at excusing it.
Also an op-ed quoting a senate opinion do not facts make.
The real question is why were they saving the RPG? Who just leaves an RPG around and doesn't plan to use it?
Think about that time when you were playing STALKER and you found an RPG. You lugged that baby through the zone forever, waiting for the right time to use it and pop a chimera or something. It'd have been a waste to use it on bandits, and you knew that.

really you're calling the senate report an "opinion" come on

Well the Vice Chairmen of the Senate Intel Committee says they got information from the same man that was held in Gitmo, so is the Vice Chairmen just saying he gave it willingly instead of the usual torture that goes on there?

Clear sky was the only game where I lugged an RPG with a single rocket for that helicopter during the hospital

Please don't take my statement about being delusional as too offensive, I just have a tic when it comes to preexisting security measures. All's well that ends in a friendly dialogue.

Hey now, I'm a red white and blue blooded American with a flag hanging from my window, as well as a heavy supporter of the US military. We aren't all uneducated xenophobes. The sole reason that I can say all I have is because I was brought up in the correct fashion around a diverse group of individuals. A Palestinian and Israeli both went to school together with me as a child and they got along great, all it takes is the right perspective to see that we aren't all that different.

Still doing that with my Fat Boy in Fallout 4.
I don't give a shit if I run like a snail because of accidentally picking up a extra pound from a watermelon I clicked on, and I can kill everything with just a revolver, I am still keeping it damnit!

Astounding how quickly one is willing to debase the rights of others when fear strikes. Haven't you realized that it's the precise reason behind terrorism? To change the way we do things because of the actions of a small minority, no matter how terrible, is one of the main goals of terrorists.

I feel as if these reactionary responses primarily come from the younger members of the forum- they simply want what they disagree with destroyed and see it is as the best route possible. Being reactionary to a situation like this solves nothing for anybody.

I concur with your sentiment, having watched 9/11 live on TV colored my views when I was growing up, but it's still up to the individual to realize that abhorrent behavior begets even worse behavior. It's sad that so many Millennials have this mindset.
Even if we ignore the inhumane part, it's not even an effective way to get information.

You should probably consider the history of Soviet Union and China for the last 70 years before making such nebulous and conditional statements.
Well, given that torture doesn't actually work, lets not.

Torture doesn't work. It's just for the satisfaction of the torturer. We did some pretty not-nice shit after 9/11 and we made tangible intelligence discoveries from "enhanced interrogation."
Like it's no secret we caught a lot of bad guys because we basically tortured people, moral and ethical arguments aside it does work at least sometimes.

Short answer is that a HEAT warhead can be whatever you want it to be if you use your ~imagination~ man.
Really great that they found it before it could be used, a single PG-7 round would wreck any vehicle on the street.

No offense taken man I should have looked into the passport stuff.
Somehow I feel the US doesn't do enough visiting of suspected terrorists cells.
This is rather an ignorant statement, why would the US publicly talk about 'visiting suspected terrorists' when that's a huge hole in their own security to learn more and thwart more?
