I'm still inclined to believe that no matter how well equipped they may be, standing up to an internationally competent army (perhaps soon even two) just won't bring any fruitful results.
What they do is very bold, however, they still have to do it under the cover of shadows.
They have the element of surprise for now. Their only advantage is that they're quite de-centralized so the army is forced to hunt down cartel members house to house.

Well, from what I know, most of the police and military is on their payroll, so they might even have acces to their weapons and stuff.

I apologize, I guess the murders aren't directly related to the recent events between the zetas and anonymous. Although I still hold to my opinion that this isn't something anonymous should back out on, they made a bold statement that, if it isn't a bluff, could bring change to this situation, but better safe than sorry isn't the worst way to go I guess.

Why is everyone so quick to say send the troops in. Zetas make Al Qaeda look like a group of school girls. They where trained in America by special forces in counter terrorism and guerrilla warfare. Not to mention they are extremely ruthless and barbaric. They constantly release videos onto the net of them beating competition to death with bats, executions, and recently they cut some dudes head off with a fuckin chainsaw.
It would be a nightmare to go to war with them.

They have the money, training, and resolve to be a gigantic thorn in any organized forces side.

Well that may be true, but unless these "zetas" also possess Al-Qaeda's religious zeal (ie, are they willing to explode themselves), then I don't think they'll last long against a large, well trained, armed, and funded military.

Paramilitary organizations with members willing to suicide bomb or sacrifice their lives to kill 5 people are more likely to get crushed than one that uses tactics like the Viet Cong.
