I seriously wonder what will happen if a Chinese astronaut actually got to the moon and then desecrated the original moon landing site while he/she was up there.
How can you desecrate a landing site? We left trash on the Moon, it's hardly consecrated ground, lol. I doubt they'd want to land anywhere near where we went anyways, too much been there/done that potential. Plus in all these years I'm sure their scientists have come up with a more interesting idea of where to land. Actually I think the people who will have the biggest issue with this are the Russians. The Chinese, assuming they make it, are certainly going to play it up as "Anyone who is anyone has gone to the Moon" meaning China and the US. Everyone else is just a bunch of posers. Remember that the Soviet Union ended its push since once it had been done, why bother? It's just a huge waste of resources for what? But if China goes then it starts to look more like an issue of 'you couldn't do it' and not 'I didn't feel like doing it'.
You'd have a pretty big international incident followed by most likely a lot of shit getting dumped on China.
Then again, there really isn't that much to desecrate at the Apollo 11 landing site. There's half the moon lander and a flag there.
This is fucking awesome! Go China! Also, my dad believes the US moon landing to be a hoax :v:
This is fucking awesome! Go China! Also, my dad believes the US moon landing to be a hoax :v:
Despite the mountains of evidence proving we went there. Or the large retroreflectors that were left behind by various parts of the Apollo program.
Despite the mountains of evidence proving we went there. Every time I mention the Apollo program he immediately says "It's a hoax" makes me rage.
Considering the sneaky, and sometimes evil, shit the US government has done that we know about, the one kind of conspiracy theory I can understand is the Moon landing being fake. But the next time someone lands on the Moon, be they Chinese or someone else, that should put an end to those theories.
But the next time someone lands on the Moon, be they Chinese or someone else, that should put an end to those theories.
It won't, trust me.
I don't mind them going to the moon but why not Mars? It's the Red planet after all.
I don't mind them going to the moon but why not Mars? It's the Red planet after all.
Because going to Mars is much harder, takes a lot more time, and a lot more resources on board to keep humans alive for over a year.
Invent the hyperdrive, then I'll be impressed. [editline]31st December 2011[/editline] (but that would need cold fusion)
I don't mind them going to the moon but why not Mars? It's the Red planet after all.
Kind of overshooting your goals a bit don't you think? I have no doubt that China will eventually go to Mars as a big fuck you to America.
Kind of overshooting your goals a bit don't you think? I have no doubt that China will eventually go to Mars as a big fuck you to America.
And they'll probably be 50 years late too.
Munchhausen drive here we come
And they'll probably be 50 years late too.
With the state of the American economy I highly doubt NASA will be able to do it anytime soon with their current budget.
I don't mind them going to the moon but why not Mars? It's the Red planet after all.
Ignoring the Moon and going straight for Mars is just moronic, the Moon is closer and it'd be much smarter to first colonize the Moon then launch spacecraft from there, as it takes a lot less fuel (and the less fuel you pack the more room you have for other things) [editline]31st December 2011[/editline]
But the next time someone lands on the Moon, be they Chinese or someone else, that should put an end to those theories.
No it wouldn't, there will always be people stupid enough to believe in conspiracies of any type, if China goes up there and confirms the US landing then they'll probably say the US and China are part of a secret alliance working to enslave the human race or some shit
I think any manned exploration to another body(not the ISS obviously) has to have about a decade lead time. I don't think NASA can say "Give us X dollars and we'll have astronauts on the Moon in 18 months." Rockets need to be designed and tested. Life support systems likewise. The design and testing phase alone should last years. NASA would know that if the next manned trip ended with the death of those astronauts, that would probably be the end of manned exploration(by the US) for who knows how many more decades. So they'll test, and test again, until they are sure everything is exactly right. This is one major advantage the Chinese leadership have, they answer to no one in their country. They can launch a mission knowing all their astronauts will die and be sure that they can still launch more missions afterwards with no interference.
oh this'll be exciting
don't you remember that mythbusters episode? they already did it
Here's an interesting idea: When China lands men and women on the moon, they should plant the Chinese flag NEXT to the American flag. Furthermore, every time an astronaut from a new country goes to the moon, they plant their flag in the same row. Eventually, there will be a row of flags on the moon from the various countries that have visited in peace. It'd be the Moon's own little "Embassy Row".
I have never understood why they havent created a small moonbase or something. I mean, surely its a good place to test out a self-sustaining base away from Earth, where they can also observe/research and gather samples of things easier, because, well they are pretty much in space.
Don't we already face that issue trying to build a base in Australia? :v:
Next thing you'll see is these Chinese painting a giant red Mao face on the moon.
Or Chiang Kai-shek to piss off Maoists :v:
Here's to hoping their flag is the same size as ours.
Here's to hoping their flag is the same size as ours.
Isn't there an international standard for size?
Isn't there an international standard for size?
I don't think so, flags in many different countries even have different ratios so having them the same size would be difficult
I can't wait for the day when we have one flag that represents all humankind, I wonder what it will look like..

I was going to make a shit joke saying " A small step for squint eyes, A big step for squint eyes kind" ... Wich translates as : "一小步瞇眼睛,瞇眼睛那種大步!" Wich whe i translated it back, Says: "A small blind eye, blind eye that big!" ....
Good for China.
