Except Call of the Wintermoon was never meant to be taken seriously.
Not all black metal bands are like that anyway, and you'll find a lot of them don't even take themselves that seriously. Black metal is probably the most diverse sub-genre of metal, which is apparent if you look at the new waves of bands mixing genres like post-rock and shoegaze with black metal.
