The hospital food was so bad in CA that my grandfather lost 40 pounds because he literally could not eat the food in the hospital.
They wouldn't let us bring him food because "He needed a special diet".
Is that chicken leg undercooked? Jesus christ.
I spend a fair amount of time working in the kitchen to feed myself and others, so I would probably have a fit if the chicken looked like that and start over.
When my dad had his bypass done he got my mum to bring in home cooked meals to the hospital because he refused to eat their shitty food

looks like ham with lemons.
I don't understand how hospitals can expect patients to get better with such shitty food. Feed them properly cooked nutritious basics like fruits and vegetables, as well as good quality meat, dairy, and grains.

that's turkey with buttered potatoes. like seriously how could you think that's steak or ham
Jeez, is that a hospital or are they trying to imitate a prison?
This is basicaly every hospital in Poland they are really underfunded, in the meantime Prisons actually have better food and funding, such is life .
here is a pic of a typical prison meal in Poland

It's good this is happening somewhere. I always lose a lot of weight when I'm hospitalised mostly out of sheer disgust at the food, but under the threat of force-feeding it can be quite hard to get away with it. Hospitals are just shit places to be and the food plays a part in it.

Yeah, hospitals should probably have actual kitchen staff as opposed to cafeteria joe-sloppers. Hell the pub I work in has a pretty small kitchen, and we still cook some good meals, both for the lunch menu and the pot meal board.
Hospital food is just as bad as jail food here in the US. Only with our system we wont see any changes because of the private companies running the hospitals.
I went to jail. I can confirm that jail food is worse than hospital food.

You know special diets are no joke right? You can't just feed Hospital patients anything if whatever disease or condition they're presenting for can be exacerbated by not controlling their diet. Diets like high calorie, high residue, low residue, high protein, low protein, etc. Are all there for a reason. That's another reason why a lot of Hospital food sucks for patients, they need to make the food sometimes to reach a certain diet requirement.
Heh, Pizza hut in a hospital. Come to think of it, that would be a great way to make a killing as a food chain.
A Subway in a hospital? People would be on that like white on rice
St Helier hospital (Epsom and St Helier NHS trust) has a subway.
I just bring my own meals to my placement hospital though. The canteen food looks ok, but even with my discount it's way too dear, and I'm an ok cook. Not actually looked at patient meals though, I've not been to the wards in a while.
just put a maccies in there or something, sorted
just put a maccies in there or something, sorted
Having only mediocre take-out is boring as hell. If you're going to do that, why not just staff a decent kitchen at a hospital?
That's... That's not human skin... Is it...? :tinfoil:
that's actually a pretty good idea to save the NHS's straining budget
just feed the patients all the broke-ass organs and stuff the other patients aren't using anymore
"here you go mrs. john we've got this tumor-riddled liver from a guy in intensive care, eat up slowly now so you can feel the juicy bits pop. on the side there you've got the bbq special - a foot or so of skin from a burn victim just three wards down. that guy was peeling like a satsuma"
yuck!!!

Implying the jails aren't all run by private companies too?
that's turkey with buttered potatoes. like seriously how could you think that's steak or ham
you have not seen my school's "ham"
Ew, the fuck?
When I was in the hospital a couple years ago I got it good, I drank literally entirely milkshakes for multiple weeks and ate pretty rad mashed potatoes and shit
would have been pretty solid if I was dying at the time :v:
When my grandmother was in hospital we brought food in for her. She didn't have long left, and understandably we didn't want her to suffer through trying to eat the crap the NHS offers.
We found out after a week of daily visits with food that the NHS staff were just taking the food we brought in and eating it themselves.
I'm glad they're at least making an effort to change their standards for the better now though.
My friend recently had jaw surgery and she sent me this picture of her average hospital meal.

They actually kept her in hospital for a few extra days because she wasn't eating properly.

The plastic silverwear and bowls and stuff are so cute.

I don't know what hospital you're going to, but every hospital i've eaten food at has been reasonably good. As for jail food, i don't know what they usually serve, but my brother is in the local jail and they literally heat up a few cheapo TV dinners for them. There's no way hospital food, even in the US, could ever reach that level of terrible.
They usually don't have specific rules about bringing in food in my part of the world at any rate - it's how I survived in hospital when I got my surgeries done.
Ditto. The hospital food I got was edible but barely. Thank god my family brought me one restaurant meal every day.
