More layoffs hit TOR team, EA hits 52-week low, CEO may be replaced.

EA have no idea how to run a company but they'll never die, like it or not they're going to make a buttload of money off battlewubgunfield 4 and medal of duty.
The only thing TOR had going for it was the story and to be honest it sucked compared to the other KOTOR's and even other Bioware games. This game shouldn't have been an MMO with how they tried to design it.
While I dislike EA, and seriously dislike their business strategies, and while they are obviously making some really fucking stupid decisions, I still would rather see all the people who work there keep their jobs, rather than EA dying.
The best solution would obviously be for EA to fix their strategies, but that doesn't seem very likely.

The people who work for EA are suffering Having to work overtime without getting paid, super tight deadlines, etc. I think some of the people would enjoy getting fired so they don't need to work for EA

It's called needing to make money.
Your parents aren't going to pay for you forever.
Want to get fired? There's something called quitting, know why they don't quit?
Because they need money!
Edit:
To clarify in case anyone thinks I am defending EA:
I'm not saying EA is treating their workers the way they should, I'm saying that it doesn't excuse them being fired, because they obviously need the job, otherwise they would quit.
You need to pay bills and shit, and it's horrible that they need to work in conditions that nobody should work in.
God I miss Pandemic Studios and Bullfrog productions. I would love a dungeon Keeper 3, I look forward to the day EA dies.

I cling to the hope that EA will see the light and become a better business because of it, but that seems incredibly unlikely. Weren't they one of the FIRST companies to implement that absurd "online-pass" system? Then they think they can compete with Steam, the BIGGEST online distribution platform in the world. Now thinking they can get away with charging $10 extra on all of their games. Not to mention their horrible practice of buying up every damn studio they can find, milking them for every game they can make, and then shutting them down when ONE game does shitty. Its times like this you need to tearfully load the double barreled shotgun, take EA outback, and put it out of its own misery.

Jesus Christ I'm not defending EA, I'm just saying it would be better if they fixed their shit up, rather than firing half the company.

Fix'd
TOR is the only MMO I actually enjoy playing, due to the story. Its like KOTOR 3 but with other people wandering around.

Huh? What was that all about?
Battlefield 2 was $80 here on launch day. I don't know what BF3 was because I never bought it, but I can imagine it was similar. I guess I should expect to see retail prices of $90 for EA products then. Not like I buy them anyway.
$60 launch day in my area of canada
Sales Manager: "We're at 52 week low, what ever shall we do to increase our profits!?"
John Riccitiello: "Simple, just increase the launch price of games by $10."
Huh? What was that all about?
I believe that was proven to be FUD. People ran various monitors (me included) on Origin, it doesn't access anything outside of ProgramFiles and ProgramData unless it's a folder created by Origin itself. And if it did happen to scan over that file while installing, it most certainly doesn't send them to EA or anything as there is no noticeable bandwidth usage at any point during the install.

So they know exactly how to run a company which its primary purpose is to make money, is what you're saying?

The article itself has a hyperlink there to a youtube video which links to several news sites (in german) that go into further detail.

Yes, they know how to make money. But they seemingly don't know how to keep customers loyal, which will be their ultimate undoing in the long run unless they reform their connection with their customers and playerbases.
The only loyal customers they've kept are not the swingers; much like in a political election, the ultimate outcome is almost always determined by the undecided/neutral voters. In this analogy, you have people who never want anything to do with EA, peopel who will buy anything from EA's franchises without question, and then there's the people who don't know if they want to shell out 70 USD for a game because they are unsure if it'll be worth it.
In the long run, the people who side against EA will outnumber those who stick with them. They'll eventually stop being as profitable and either collapse or be reformed as something that's hardly recognizable as the EA we know today.
This struck me as odd, did the last game not sell as well or something, or is EA just having really high expectations?
"Reaching a broader audience" is just another way of saying "Starting to milk the series".
I don't expect Dead Space 3 to be as good as the previous 2 games because of this.

So they'll make oodles of money until they no longer make money, and then change their business model to go back to making money.
People do not seem to understand that EA, as despicable as it is, is very profitable.
I like to think Bioware Austin secretly decided to sacrifice themselves, destroying EA and saving video games in the process.

They won't quit because it's hard to get a job in game design.
After the SWTOR fiasco, Rich Vogel deserves no job in the gaming industry. I truly hope nobody hires him again, such fuckups deserve to be punished.
[editline]19th July 2012[/editline]
Ricitello deserves the same.
They won't quit because it's hard to get a job in game design.
Uh yes.
And being fired instead of quitting makes it so much easier getting a job in game design?
I don't know how many times i've heard people say they didn't buy a game for $60, I guess they don't realize how many more won't buy a rushed game for $70-$80.
Uh yes.

Need to pay bills somehow.

EA will never die as long as they keep milking their popular franchises.
Video Game Developers need to unionize.
EA Does no good job in helping itself too, having to pay full price for a game after buying the game and its DLC only to be able to play the game with your friends in the future is really shooting yourself in the foot.
Also, you're all doing it wrong, it's Call of the Dead: Space Warfare 3

the bombing of isaac
maybe if EA stopped making shit games and actually took on worthwhile projects *cough* Mirror's Edge *cough* then i'd consider shelling out 70$. but with this online pass bullshit to play a subpar game, it's not even worth it.
Jesus Christ I'm not defending EA, I'm just saying it would be better if they fixed their shit up, rather than firing half the company.
I'm not trying to criticize you either. I'm just saying, whatever hope I had for EA is fading fast. Yes, the idea of people losing their jobs is tragic, but EA didn't think about that when they closed several studios.
