If they got arrested for protesting that's fucked up.
Thing is though, they aren't even protesting at all, they're just trying to piss people off.
Thing is though, they aren't even protesting at all, they're just trying to piss people off.
They apparently protest anything bad that happens in the U.S. because they believe it's due to the gays, so yes, they are protesting.
If they got arrested for protesting that's fucked up.
loving your title so much
I don't care if they're doing this to be stirring up a feud, to picket the funeral of a girl who died in a tornado is fucked up. If this is true, thank fuck they're in jail and off the streets. They're just trying to get a name and attention, this is not protesting. Protesting has actual sense, picketing funerals is not protesting at all.
WBC is fucking terrible, but I have to agree that arresting them for protesting is about the dumbest thing to do and plays right into their hand. They pretty much support themselves on the piles of legal cases against them by playing at people's emotions to provoke them into doing something rash, etc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westboro_Baptist_Church#Funding By arresting them simply for protesting at a funeral just means they are basically being given a free pay-day. They know it's going to elicit a response, it's how they fund themselves.

If they refuse, they can be arrested. The OP does NOT say they were arrested for protesting, more than likely they got arrested for trespassing on funeral grounds. There's a difference between protesting in public property and private property, you know..

Westboro is pretty good at covering their asses, and several of them are full-time lawyers pretty much there just to make money. It's much more likely that this isn't a mistake on their part, as much as I'd like to see them stopped from fucking with people's emotions, especially after tragedies, they do what they do inside of the law in a place where it falls short.
Are you fucking kidding me?
are you actually surprised? They do this way more than you think. I hope they lose everything.

If they try to be slick and fight back, they can be arrested. What they did was not inside the law anymore, it was against the law, you're on private property. If they did it on someones lawn, they can be removed. If they did it on public property(roads, public buildings, libraries), then they're protected by the law.

How do you not understand that? They've been doing this for over 10 years now, they would not fuck up because it is their primary way to make money that supports their lives and (radical and isolated) family/community. Also, did you even read the article? The sources are all very weak, and the only one about what they were arrested for implies it wasn't for protesting on private property. It's protesting without a permit.

These people aren't protesting at all, is what I'm saying. What is picketing the funeral of a little girl gonna do to "protest" besides anger the family to the point of them just getting more and more sad cause people lack a fuckin' brain to understand that picketing funerals is cruel.
They apparently protest anything bad that happens in the U.S. because they believe it's due to the gays, so yes, they are protesting.
The wbc says those things to specifically incite a reaction, where they can then sue the shit out of the opposition. That's how they make their money. I wouldn't doubt of a lot of them don't even believe the shit they're saying, they just know that if they speak loud enough then someone will lash out.
Thing is though, they aren't even protesting at all, they're just trying to piss people off.
Whatever happened to the quote "I disapprove of what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it"?

The only cool thing about WBC is that the USA allows them to continue existing, it at least shows that we're very free as long as you follow the regulations on protesting (which they do). I do, however, think there should be a limit, and the WBC has crossed it.
as long as you follow the regulations on protesting (which they do). I do, however, think there should be a limit, and the WBC has crossed it
?
Cool. They have every right to do that.
Why should they have the right to disrupt funeral services (a rather private affair), and to essentially harass the family of the deceased with their protests? [editline]25th May 2013[/editline]
?
Uhm, a limit on what people can say or do in the way of protesting, they can have their beliefs, but to protest at funerals and shit, that is crossing the line. What was even so confusing about what I said?
Cool. They have every right to do that.
I'm gonna picket your funeral so hard.
I want to see if there is a way to properly "counter-protest" the WBC. Like, maybe getting a bunch of different groups together to protest just one group. Imagine, dozens of different groups of dozens of different people, making up hundreds or thousands of protesters, all against open hate speech disguised as protest. People have the right to share their voice against things they disagree with, in this case a hate group, the WBC. Let's all gather in the cul-de-sac outside of their home and do a protest, yeah that'll show em!
Does first amendment even protect WBC it says "peaceably assemble" that's not really peaceful
"God hates fags" is still an incitement to breach the peace if it is likely to cause a breach of peace - e.g. it is said to draw a violent reaction.
No, incitement to breach the peace means that you are trying to directly get people to commit a crime. If you say "god hates fags" is fighting words, than that means that a whole lot of speech in America just became illegal.

The best thing to do in such a situation is to show as much kindness and respect as possible by treating a WBC funeral any other, it shows just how much they contradict the basic values of their religion by bashing on everyone they can find a petty reason to bash on for in the pursuit of $$$$.
Does first amendment even protect WBC it says "peaceably assemble" that's not really peaceful
They're not carrying weapons or threatening anyone. Just because they say mean things doesn't mean their right to protesting should be voided. The WBC are the most successful group of attention whores and trolls on the entire planet. Doing something like that at one of their funerals would be like a 21 gun salute to them.
If they were revving engines just to be fags, then I'd be pissed, but if they were revving it to block out a hate group who said my loss is because the almighty GAWD is pissed at our country for allowing gays to marry, then I'd be fine with it. Hell, afterwards I would walk up to every single biker and shake his/her fucking hand.
Did you just call people fags while condemning the westboro baptist church because my basement is completely submerged in liquid irony thanks a lot

Originally I put 'assholes' but then I started thinking of that episode as I typed the post out.

I hope everyone in the WBC and supporting it are strangled with piano wire. Disgusting excuses for humans.
I am proud of my state, they have finally arrested those fucks.
Are you fucking kidding me?
Does that really surprise you anymore?
