Despite all his attention, the majority of polls are in favor of someone other than Trump.

How his supporters justify it is they see all these headlines and just go "no the media is spinning it negatively, he didn't really say that".

The bill of rights applies to everyone, regardless of citizenship status or not. And the First Amendment's Establishment Clause is quite clear. There is actually very few rights that are specific to citizens (vote, public office, etc).
While the border does tend to be a weird place between respecting rights and not. I feel the Supreme Court would rule that denying entry solely due to religion is illegal under the Constitution. It'd also violate Civil Rights laws on the books already.
