This is like that Star Trek TNG episode when Picard raped all of his female crew in the name of science and fact. Oh.. nevermind. Picard was a good leader and an actual scientist. Not some perv looking to get some ass.
what
On the topic of fictional scientists, these very real, creepy ass, harassment type bosses are scaring my Sarah Hardings and Ellie Sattlers away. But seriously though... back off from the lady scientists.
I don't think that's how math works. Let's say that there were an equal number of male and female scientists, just as an example. If the 22% was made up of 15% women and 7% men, then 30% of women and 14% of men would be assaulted. You have to divide by the percent the population takes up. No, no he was not. He's a fictional scientist. I have no idea why you would post this.
Of course fictional. But actual within the realm of the show. As for why I posted it, I'm not sure. I've just been on a TNG binge lately and this story made me think of it and what Picard would do if he encountered a science team whose leader was sexually harassing its interns.
1 in 4 women being sexually assaulted during field research is fucking disgraceful. Especially when it's someone who has control over your career future and is using it to leverage you into agreeing to something. No fucking wonder there aren't more women doing applied science in the field.
Who would have thought, science proves that scientists are also pigs.
1 in 4 women being sexually assaulted during field research is fucking disgraceful.
It IS disgraceful, but I'm pretty sure that number applies for most careers where half or more of the employees are men. I live in Norway, a feminist heaven, and still many of my friends have been raped. Most of it happens at parties, but there is a lot of sexual harassment in the workplace. However, while I believe the number, I want to point out the fault in this study.
completed the voluntary Internet survey.
It's a voluntary Internet survey. Women who have experienced sexual harassment may be more or less inclined to take the survey, which messes with the results. An obligatory anonymous workplace survey would be a better option.
It's a voluntary Internet survey.
God dammit. Are scientists that stupid? Either they intended for this to skew results in order to further an agenda. Or they are dumb.

Or they are dumb.
More likely is that it's another case of scientists having good intentions and the media making a claim that the scientists never made on their behalf as clickbait.
I guess the poor archaeologists get asked to examine a lot of bones.
A total of 666 scientists, primarily in the fields of anthropology and archaeology, completed the voluntary Internet survey. And while the results do not reflect the true prevalence of sexual abuse in field research — this type of survey is not designed to measure that — the numbers are still alarming.
guys, read first though, there needs to be more thorough work done besides a voluntary internet survey
