Seeing a lot of conflicting opinions (at least from facebook) on whether he was a saint or a terrorist, all you can say is that he was human. Not to understate the acts that he participated in but you also have to keep in mind the state of the continent over the last century. He came to be a great man and will be missed.
man i sure wish i was still an edgy teenager like u btw epic meme avatar dude
I don't get angry when someone makes fun/disagrees of someone I like on the internet.
yet coming into a thread to actively annoy people who are paying their respects to someone that they held dear is somehow better.
man i sure wish i was still an edgy teenager like u btw epic meme avatar dude
Are people ever going to get tired of using this stupid fucking word?
Was this was the man who fought to dismantle the rascist arpatheid era in South Africa?
Shit, now he's really dead Rip hero of the 20th century
Regardless of whether I personally agree with his method of achieving equality for all peoples, this man was a hero and was responsible for freeing so many countless people from despair. A true legend was lost. i'm gonna say this now before the flurry of boxes and xs, what he may or may not have done is not for you to decide. You can't know where the propaganda ends and the truth begins. What is undeniable fact is this: he freed his people from an oppressive rule, and that's enough for me to give my respects.
yet coming into a thread to actively annoy people who are paying their respects to someone that they held dear is somehow better.
Why is everyone dumbing this? I seriously don't understand how coming into a thread where people are paying their respects to Nelson Mandela and going "he was a fucking evil literal terrorist" is completely acceptable, but pointing that out is dumb somehow. I'm actually curious, I'm not calling anyone out on it because then I'd be dumbed and nobody would bother to reply. [editline]a[/editline] Is it because it's implied he likes Mandela, or did I just accidentally click on Mass Debate and not notice?

I don't disagree with what he's saying, it's just the way he's saying it.
Ahh fuck. He did live for a very long time for a president of a country. RIP.
Seems like he... went into darkness
In a week we'll start getting the "Mandela wasn't so great he killed people" shitposts. Calling it.
Despite the sadness of his death, I have found solace in the potential of future leaders who will follow in Nelson Mandela's footsteps and continue on his legacy.
hehe *embarassed* my bad in my defense, its the BBC article i got that graph from that made the mistake not me
unbelievable - "it's not my fault the article I chose to post was wrong in the context of the argument due to my own incompetence, it's the BBC's fault!"
RIP. You changed the world, friend :(
Is Faroe Island a country?
On behalf of scandinavia i grant mr mandela an honorary seat in valhalla.
He didn't die with a weapon in hand. No entry.
He didn't die with a weapon in hand. No entry.
Ill just sacrifice a limb or an eye. that sort of thing always gets the gods in on it.
On behalf of scandinavia i grant mr mandela an honorary seat in valhalla.
There can be no non scandinavians in Valhalla.
Guy is responsible for mass-bombing of civilians who weren't even in relation to the apartheid government. In his rule, South Africa has become a slaughterhouse and feel-good rape house and disease central in Afirca, massive unemployment and starvation through out the country, and yeah. Sucks the guy died, but realistically speaking his accomplishments with removing the Apartheid Government have only caused a lot more civil strife and bad shit going on in South Africa. Not even to mention he still was responsible for signing off on the bombings of Churches and Schools across South Africa in the Early 80's.
What? Do you know anything about South African history? You're literally saying that removing Apartheid caused MORE trouble in South Africa? Its easy to judge him as a terrorist if you don't know the situation at the time. Mandela is a hero because when South Africa was on the brink of a civil war during the transitional period, he chose to forgive and pursue a peaceful transition. He, and several key resistance/NP members played a huge role in ensuring that things went as smoothly as they did. If you want to blame someone for South Africa's current situation, blame the now corrupt ANC leadership.
R.I.P, he will be missed.
unbelievable - "it's not my fault the article I chose to post was wrong in the context of the argument due to my own incompetence, it's the BBC's fault!"
The article he got it from wasn't even wrong, the title of the article is "Wealth gap grows between black and white Americans". obviously i wasnt serious about that but ok either way the point is still completely factually correct and i have the data to prove it, no matter if you want to say im backpedaling or whatever for an honest mistake
