They didn't detect that toner cartridge
But they banned toner cartridges now so WE'RE SAFE GUYS
I wonder what would happen if the company installing these scanners smuggled a bomb into the airport disguised as a scanner
Besides, it seems like there have been more attempts to blow up planes (that made it ONTO THE PLANE) since these asinine security procedures came into effect, they're doing jack shit. Roll back to pre-9/11 level security and watch as nothing changes
They don't detect a toner cartridge, something nothing else WOULD be able to detect?
What do you want? Them to just say fuck it to security?

What can these scanners detect that conventional methods cannot
What can these scanners detect that conventional methods cannot
I dunno, but what's wrong with them?
What can these scanners detect that conventional methods cannot
For one thing, they can see most thing substances such as cloth and cardboard without disturbing the package or person. They aren't as invasive as a full cavity search or tearing apart a package either.
*cough*
It's never that obvious you know.
So you can get cancer or get fingered?
I'm never going to the U.S.
I dunno, but what's wrong with them?
Violation of the fourth amendment.

So use them for packages.

The 4th amendment is against random searches and stuff, this isn't "random", you know it's coming, and it is no more a search of your shit without your permission as putting your bags through the detector thingie before you walk through the metal detector at an airport.
I don't think scanners would make airports any more safer than they already are. I think they need other ways to check for bomb-making materials. Although I can see how a scanner would save more time than a full-body search.
You're a fucking idiot.
Someone who wants to go visit their Grandma shouldn't have to go through a scanner where they will be able to see their naked body, or opt out for a grope. That's a clear violation of human rights.
Would you be comfortable if a security guard was standing by the entrance to every building forcing you to strip naked in front of him?
[editline]15th November 2010[/editline]
Human rights are already down the drain and this is just making it worse. All of you idiots blindly protecting it as if it's no big deal that someone can see you naked for something as fundamental as flying.
I don't really give a flying fuck if some TSA weirdos see my dong but this is still over the top for people who are self conscious about that sort of thing.
This is fucking terrible. Undressing naked or doing cavity search is fucking ridiculous, how is that even allowed?
I don't want some random cop to dig in my ass.

Uh, it's different in that a baggage scanner doesn't take a naked picture of you and store it somewhere
Everyone claims everything causes cancer these days ( alot of it probably true too ) part of me think's its scaremongering.

You fucking idiots realize we basically give up our rights to fly right? To gain the ability we have to give up our rights. Shut the fuck up already, if you don't like it, take a train.
What the hell is the point in this thing?
A) The checks are random, so the likelihood of this being of any use is reduced to the amount of people they randomly search.
B) The random checks aren't always random for entirely the wrong reasons. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/travel-safety-security/1147497-tso-saying-heads-up-got-cutie-you.html
C) This technology is not being used for hold luggage (where it would be completely ineffective anyway).
D) This technology can only see as deep as your skin, so why is it more effective than frisking?
E) Who the fuck is going to walk through airport security strapped with explosives? And if they are, how does this help when they could detonate it before walking into the machine to begin with or once discovered?

False sense of security. That's the main reason. They are "doing" something, doesn't matter if it's effective or not, it makes people feel more secure.
Uh, it's different in that a baggage scanner doesn't take a naked picture of you and store it somewhere
it's a very vague naked picture
Don't know why everyone's making such a big deal out of it.
Not like they're going to save the scans and sell them... I hope.
it's a very vague naked picture
If it exists, there's a fetish for it.
Anything in a high enough dose, can kill you.
Even water.
You know that liquid thing that's part of the reason we even exist? Yeah, it fucking hates you and wants you dead.
Even water.
Water can easily high you in a high dose.
Great, and I'm going to the airport tomorrow.
False sense of security. That's the main reason. They are "doing" something, doesn't matter if it's effective or not, it makes people feel more secure.
I thought the agenda of any up and coming modern government was to make people feel less secure. Certainly seems that way anyway. If these were not there, would everyone be more or less alert to suspicious behaviour?
If you were a terrorist, knowing that people are relying on technology more and more would surely just invite you to discover a flaw in the way it works and come to the realisation that people are being less vigilant now they have their fun porn-o-matic and also crappy bomb scanner to look at.

But, yeah, I love surrendering my rights and my privacy so I have the priveledge to pay a company hundreds of dollars to be treated like cattle on a pressurized soda can flying through the air at 600mph...

then ban everything

We've been doing that for decades and now people are just starting to realize it.
You fucking idiots realize we basically give up our rights to fly right? To gain the ability we have to give up our rights. Shut the fuck up already, if you don't like it, take a train.
Do they make ocean trains?
Do they make ocean trains?
You mean cruise ships?
And my point was more along the lines of, we're too late to turn back the tide, at least two decades too late.
You know whats fun about this "Naked" Scanner? It operates off of Terahertz waves which are not harmful to the person being scanned (because they don't really get any real dosage of anything)... But the people who work with them and around them might end up getting cancer because it is not shielded.(Forgive me if this has been posted already, it is late and I am tired)
