I don't agree with any resolutions like this. This would render a lot of classic cars illegal and if you modified them to fit standards they'd lose a lot of their classic image.
Most legislation like this isn't retroactive.
that's like saying McDonalds isn't an American company.
No it isn't. It's like saying that McDonalds originates from America, but is a multinational corporation so it employs people of many nationalities.
Well I wouldn't go as far as banning them from city centres, but IMHO I'd make damn sure tolls are crazy expensive... that'd should be a good deterrent...
Most people forget that owning a car is a luxury, not a right or a privilege.
How about no, I would make fuel expensive and make inter-city tubes that are huge and cheap. Eventually no cars would be on the roads.
In other news, scientists from the UK have invented a new "rectangular banana". More at 10.
Took them long enough, we've had rectangular watermelons for years.

Now they need to get working on square oranges. Those fuckers are always rolling away.
They're a multinational corporation, they employ many people from various walks of life.
ya and bmw isnt german either
ya and bmw isnt german either
And Sony isn't Japanese.
No it isn't. It's like saying that McDonalds originates from America, but is a multinational corporation so it employs people of many nationalities.
ya but mcdonalds is an american corporation and bp is a british corporation
You mean to tell me we'll have petrol left in 2050?
ya but mcdonalds is an american corporation and bp is a british corporation
They're technically multinationals.
Why did you phrase the title like that.

I'm pretty sure it's as simple as growing the fruit inside of a plexiglass container which prevents growth
You mean to tell me we'll have petrol left in 2050?
there will be oil around, but the older wells that have been digging will be out by then
if we want to sustain ourselves on oil any longer we should have been drilling more wells a couple years ago
Why did you phrase the title like that.
Welcome to Facepunch.

Those little orange bastards. Can't even pick them up without them just rolling the fuck away!
there will be oil around, but the older wells that have been digging will be out by then

Everyone who isn't a backwards, greedy fuck will want to get away from oil as soon as possible. So be glad we haven't drilled.
Most people forget that owning a car is a luxury, not a right or a privilege.
Owning a car is pretty much a need nowadays.
Besides, why ban cars? What about making alternative fuel sources?
Wouldn't that be much more logical?
UK not only wants to increase pollution by not banning cars but they also want to increase pollution by continuing to inefficiently ship fruit with a poor packing density!
These backwards ideas will not stand, we need to nuke them

Go ahead, nuke my country, I'm all good with it.
I hate my Government....why couldn't they put this vote to the people.
Read the thread title
"lol what are the EU up to now"
Then I read they want to do it by 2050, now I'm in support of the EU on this. We'll barely have any oil left by then anyway
Yea cause were not gonna find any new fuel sources by 2050.
Because UK is mainly funded by oil companies and if they get angry the country's pretty much in permanent deficit?
But... that's suggesting that we'll HAVE oil by 2050, taking into account rising demand for both gasoline and petroleum products.

Not only that, but a rectangular prism would give better slices.
Not only that, but a rectangular prism would give better slices.
I want spherical bananas. Those would be hilariously annoying.
Yea cause were not gonna find any new fuel sources by 2050.
People are looking at biofuel, but it takes up a lot of space which could be used for farming food.
[editline]28th March 2011[/editline]
Also by 2050 if we carried on using oil like we do we'll be in deep shit.
I'm pretty sure it's as simple as growing the fruit inside of a plexiglass container which prevents growth
Time to go buy some banana trees and capitalize on this
Ofc it doesn't work out like that banning all cars straight off the bat. Cars are fucking useful and efficient in so god damned many things.
So umm... why not like use the rest of the petroleum and whatever nasty shit as efficiently as you can, so we are off to a good start when turning our lifestyles more natural is the only way to go about living on this planet!
Or we could just wait 5-10 years for Electric Cars to become cheaper and then we live off them?
Electric cars still have plenty of problems. Want to drive more than 100 or so miles? Sorry, you've gotta stop and let it charge for a few hours every 100 miles.
I support what the EU wants to do.
I stand in the middle ground.
What would be more appropriate would be to boost up public transport systems, therefore creating more jobs, but at the same time make it so cars have alternative fuels. For example... Semi-Trucks. Remake those big boys with a different fuel source, and you'll be set for life.
wouldn't it be funny if they released a new statement
"The EU has dropped it's plans to ban petrol and diesel powered cars by 2050 and adopted a new project to genetically engineer rectangular banana's by 2050"
