Waste of tax dollars.
Yep learning about the other 99.99999999999999999% of the place that we exist is a total waste of time
Can it photo big bang?
Waste of tax dollars.
God, yeah. They've spent $8.7 BILLION on this in only 15 years!
That's over 0.1% of the annual budget! Just think of all they could do with that extra 0.1% spread over 15 years. I bet that could have been used to buy loads more guns, to shoot even more middle-eastern people. Who cares how the universe works?
PULL THE PLUG!

Guns? Don't be ridiculous.
Predator drones are where it is at when it comes to killing brown people.
they put something in the water in europe that helps them learn english... don't worry
No but really since america is the "dominant" world cultural power chances are their exposure to english is much greater than your exposure to foreign languages... also consider most of the internet is in english (56% in 2011). You have to consider those 2 factors.
I just realised that unless I learn foreign languages at least 44% of the internet will always remain an alien mystery to me.

We already can detect the Big Bang

not really, a large portion of websites change the language based on the geolocation of the viewer.
not really, a large portion of websites change the language based on the geolocation of the viewer.
And many more change the list of sexy singles looking to hookup based on the viewers geolocation

-20 Celsius is perfect if you want frostbite.
You wouldnt have to change road signs. The brits use miles on their roads if I'm not mistaken. All you have to do is change the measurements in the next publication of everything.
The only imperial units we use are pints, miles and feet/inches/yards for measuring shit and that's only for when you're at the pub, driving or measuring the height of someone.
Which side you drive your car on is irrelevant because it effects very little outside the area in which they chose to do so.
Unlike the rest of the world having to suffer the archaic and backwards unit of measurement when dealing with countries such as America.
it was a joke, holy fuck, just when i thought people couldn't possibly interpret my post as serious
Damn, I hope whatever they're launching this on is fucking reliable.

Look at this guy in the comments trying to sound smart. IF THEY SAID DEGREES THAT KIND OF SUGGESTS IT'S NOT IN KELVIN DOESN'T IT?

People use temperature more often for cooking than weather in which case Celsius is better. "its hot outside" or "its freezing" will suffice for weather.
And it's not like we would have to increase funding to replace all the signs. They change signs all the time. There are people whose job it is to just drive around in a pickup full of road signs and replace old ones.
[editline]19th October 2012[/editline]
Though I think it would be easier to just keep them all in miles because that's what Americans are use to, and then you don't have to change the actual location of the sign so you don't end up with stupid stuff like "Next exit 1.60 kilometers"
Why not have both units on new signs and products during the transitional period, kinda like Canada attempts to.
The imperial measurements are for old people that know nothing about metric because they never were never taught them in school.
Its just a casual science magazine for Americans not a scientific journal, you people like to complain about small things.
FYI since some of you don't seem to know, we are taught both in school with proper conversions
Actually it depends on the area. (I think) If you're talking about America
I was never taught Celsius, they tried for about a month than literally pulled it all away. Keep in mind this was when we were all in like 5th grade, so fuck if I remember that at all.

My school must have been poor then.
Did it ever occur to you that Popular Science is not an academic science journal but something that is written for the general American audience who is expected not to know much scientific things?
Yeah, exactly.
You get PopSci which is like, trash science reading, and then Science which is like Thus Spoke Zarathustra reading.
Americans should at least know how to translate to celsius because that's what the scientific community and the rest of the goddamn world uses
Except in comparison to Europe, the US hardly ever needs to know the other measurements.
