And people are complaining that that's poor taste..
This really fuckin blows
Not really, the Pilot could've been fatigued or tired or confused. Hijacking would've sounded off a mayday and the transponder turned off immediately.
I don't think the transponder would've been turned off unless hijackers got to it. The squawk code would've immediately changed to 7500, the code for hijackings.
which reminds me, does flightradar24 have the flightpath of it?
Yes! It was in FR24's ADS-B coverage area:

My friend is on this flight... I really hope it's found good and safe.
EDIT: Looks like he wasn't on the flight from the list posted on page three, however he was/still is on that route, hasn't contacted anyone and was supposed to be flying today.
Important note on the FR24 coverage area: "QZ8501 may have flown out of Flightradar24 coverage at 23:12 UTC as we are missing coverage on lower altitudes in this area."

PzFeed was formerly 911BUFF, and was one of the first to report on the Skagit River bridge collapse, various Boston Marathon Bombing events, etc.
AFAIK Air Asia has some fantastic maintenance record recognised by Airbus themselves. But that was the Malaysian branch of Air Asia. The Indonesian branch has a completely different administration.
Oh no
This is insane, I hope they find what is causing all these issues.

Shitty parts stuck on planes from the 80's. Airlines really need to invest in more modern safer equipment.
Interesting to see how the different news outlets cover big rapidly-moving stories like this when they're happening. BBC and Sky are both doing pretty good on TV, making it top story but only giving the latest updates periodically in between other news pieces - no need to have a presenter repeat the same shit until something new happens. I just looked at CNN International and they're up to their usual "HOLY FUCKING SHIT WE ARE LIVE ON THE SCENE"
Meanwhile on Fox:

I just checked CNN Domestic, they are going a bit overboard.

Here's a primary source on that alleged crash site, Google Translate struggles with it though

Aren't Sky and Fox owned by the same parent company? You'd expect consistency.

Sky is owned 40% by 21st Century Fox, they tried to fully take it over but we told them to fuck off

that joke is plane wrong, considering the circumstances
Another Airliner disappears over Asia, something is wrong...
Hopefully they find them. But for some reason, one of my friends think that the Malaysian airliner disappeared due to a time warp, probably freaking out again about this.
A passenger manifest was released.
AirAsia has issued an updated statement
The captain in command had a total of 6,100 flying hours and the first officer a total of 2,275 flying hours
There were 155 passengers on board, with 138 adults, 16 children and 1 infant. Also on board were 2 pilots and 5 cabin crew.
Nationalities of passengers and crew onboard are as below:
1 Singapore
1 Malaysia
3 South Korean
157 Indonesia
At this time, search and rescue operations are being conducted under the guidance of The Indonesia of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). AirAsia Indonesia is cooperating fully and assisting the investigation in every possible way.
The aircraft was on the submitted flight plan route and was requesting deviation due to enroute weather before communication with the aircraft was lost while it was still under the control of the Indonesian Air Traffic Control (ATC).
The aircraft had undergone its last scheduled maintenance on 16 November 2014.
AirAsia has established an Emergency Call Centre that is available for family or friends of those who may have been on board the aircraft. The number is: +622129850801.
We should go back to rigid airships. Much harder to lose those.

Or not traveling and staying isolated in our tribal groups as we scavenge for food.
I'll repost and update my explanation of why it seems like there's been so many plane crashes this year - it's because there truly has been an unusually high number of high-fatality incidents this year.
lots of images and good stuff and explanations, but I don't want to redo his HUGE post
Why weren't there any deaths or crashes in 1900? They were obviously doing something right back then, and we should go back to how it was.
I flew with Air Asia last year, I thought they were pretty good. Except for the fact they let a family with a screaming child in the Quiet Zone.
I hope it's just radio issues, but going off the record this year I have a bad feeling.
All this news this year makes me never want to fly
All this news this year makes me never want to fly
Nah. As a percentage of overall flights, the failure rate is so insignificant it might as well not exist.
By this point in time, the plane would've ran out of fuel if it was still flying.
