this is gonna be crushing if true
mgs has been part of my life for nearly 18 years and to see the series go like this is terribly depressing
For anyone not in the MGS General, I bring bad news: http://www.konami.jp/osirase/150320/
Basic translation: TPP is still on track for its planned release, and they are now hiring production staff for a new Metal Gear series.
God is dead.
we'll there goes my hope for SH's.
i dont really mind a new mgs series not made by kojima as long as it doesnt touch snake/big boss in any major way and its something like revengence where it is its own breed of insanity
Just started getting into the MGS lore the other day, and then this shit happens. God damn it.
Wow, fuck Konami.

God damnit Konami can you just let Kojima do what he wants for once

Wow so Konami ended up screwing them. Did not see that coming.
Kojima and Konami have a vague falling-out and you immediately assume it's all Konami's fault? Making a successful game series doesn't mean Kojima can do no wrong, why not wait for more information before pointing fingers?

It's gonna go the Castlevania way: A complete shift in tone and gameplay, with no less than four games of it coming out in as many years without any of the soul or polish of prior games while taking a massive dump all over the established story and lore.
Also, Konami gets to keep the FOX Engine when Kojima departs, which is just pouring lemon salt into the open wound.

you're actually right but konami has a fucking garbage track record
it's hard not to jump the gun
Apparently it was a power struggle, which is kind of leadin me towards the idea the Kojima was really pressing on creating something Konami probably weren't happy with.
Any chance its a long winded April Fools?

Konami made Team Silent work on mobile games while outsourcing SH to awful developers. So yes I consider it their fault
Mgs is going to become an fps with stealth segments that are streamlined with quicktime events

Reminds me of this
That puts it more in line with Western philosphy, which makes sense. I was worried for a second there.
actually this puts it in line with western philosophy a decade ago. Since then western publishers are trying to frontline dev groups.
Your talking about MGS2/4.?
Theres a few pictures of an interview with one of the devs for MGS taken during MGS2's development, where he says how Kojima came to him with crazy ideas like having a vampire in the game and he thought he was joking.
As sad as it is to hear this, I'm really curious to see what Kojima could do with a new IP.
I'm thinking MGS goes the way of SIlent HIll, bounced around different developers that all treat the game like trash remaking the most popular ones but missing all that matters and making games so shitty the series dies out
damn shame Kojima could've revived Silent Hill. COuld've redeemed Downpour and Homecoming and....Book of Memories.
Is there a single Japanese game company that actually gives a shit about keeping its big-name directors and producers? Is Konami looking to put themselves into the shitty position Capcom is in where all they can manage to stay afloat is throwing HD re-releases everywhere to make people think they give a shit about their old franchises while producing lackluster "AAA" DLC fests? It's almost comical.

I understand how you feel, but PES and their various game machines (Arcades, Slots, etc.) make Konami a whole heap more money than MGS at the moment. It's the sad state of things at the moment.

Gotta milk that snake for all it's worth.
So, I guess MGSV will be the last hurrah...
Going out with a bang I guess.
daily reminder that kojima is great

I just want to know what is going on with Silent Hill's.

People jumped the gun and defended the hell out of Tim Schafer and look where that's got us.
Just wait for more information instead of thinking it's the BIG bad companies fault.
Silly Konami, you don't fire your sole moneymaker.
as much as i hate konami a lot of the time kojima is almost certainly not where konami make most of their money
konami are going to shift towards mobile and arcade only some day
Guys, this isn't a ruse. Konami is a publicly traded billion dollar company and their entire company's stock is falling as a result of this. Unless this is countered by the announcement that Kojima will be working at Konami due to another 30 year contract, I can't see this doing the company any favors.
konami had a huge internal restructing for 2015. they fucked over the rhythm game scene outside of japan in late Feb just after it and now they did this.
konami aren't going to die, but i could definitely imagine they will lose a lot of talent.

you know you're right actually
i mean if kotick, a man who for several years was literally Video Game Satan, could turn out to be so correct that a mass amount of his detractors do a 180, there's a chance kojima could've fucked up royally

Difference is, Kojima has demonstrated he's competent enough to make a game that is functional and fun. Sure, it's taken him a while, probably cost the company a big chunk of change but anyone who takes a look at it can see why it has taken so long and cost so much (the engine accounts for most of the time and the game accounts for most of the money being spent).
