yes. a simple fix. after all people have wanted it for decades. thats why we waited until now to fix it. because it was so simple.
i think it's probably because congress had more pressing matters at hand other than turning the volume down on american television commercials
What's the point in making the commercials loud anyway? Can someone explain the idea behind it? Personally, whenever a commercial blasts my ears, I personally swear to not buy that shitty product, especially when it's a known offender. I'm guessing they're assuming the viewers have gotten up for whatever reason once the commercials start. EDIT: I mean advertisers have to know that people don't like it, I just don't see the logic in pissing off the person you're trying to sell too. It's not like someone is at home saying to himself/herself, "Well, if only this commercial was a little louder I might want to buy that".
If it didn't work, they wouldn't be doing it. Also, where do they get these acronyms from? Do they make the acronym first, or does it just spring out of the wording?

I'm glad this is being passed. Almost every commercial I hear these days is screaming loud. I even remember watching a show once only to be interrupted with "MOM, I WANT TO TALK ABOUT SEX".
You mean..Congress actually did something productive?
This annoys the shit out of me, hurry the hell up and follow suit Canada
well as a great man once said
I don't watch TV.
Sometimes when that wakes me up I stay up and watch the commercials that I can never see during they day.
They need to do something about how many times a commercial can play. Because I've had play every single time advertisements are on.
good now we don't have to bother muting or turning down the volume every time a commercial comes on
So little thing takes a whole lot of bureaucracy to make it fixed

Thank god.
Parents always yelled at me when I was a kid because the TV would get loud at a commercial and they'd yell "WHY IS THAT SO LOUD GO STUDY"
This seems like something that should be handled by cable / satellite providers doesn't it? Not the FCC or government
Parents always yelled at me when I was a kid because the TV would get loud at a commercial and they'd yell "WHY IS THAT SO LOUD GO STUDY"
Me too - and its often tio loud for me and im ALMOST DEAF
Will this apply to American stations aired internationally or will they keep them loud for non-American markets?
I think that most broadcasters will just implement volume equalization for every commercial to standardize the procedure so they don't end up cocking stuff up.
What's the point in making the commercials loud anyway? Can someone explain the idea behind it?
Well, the idea is that it catches peoples attention. When I (rarely) go out in public I scream and yell when ordering things at resturants or talking to friends, tends to catch attention and demand authority.
It seems more like "DO ONE OF YOUR LOVED ONES, YOUR BROTHER, YOUR FRIEND, OR SOME GUY YOU JUST MET HAVE THIS DISEASE? CALL NOW!"
How does it know I don't love my brother? :ohdear:
yes, a solution to me having the "quiet channel" set to 50 volume, then a commercial comes on and starts yelling about erectile disfunction at three in the morning :saddowns: [editline]6th December 2010[/editline]
it seems more like "do one of your loved ones, your brother, your friend, or some guy you just met have this disease? My TV automatically lowers the volume when loud commercials play. Thank you, Phillips.

This isn't going to be popular with advertising companies.
Why can't we have a Billy Mays day? Where every advertisement on TV has something to do with Billy Mays
