Bionic eye gives sight to the blind in medical breakthrough

I thought this day would never come.
The cynical realist in me thinks that whenever this or any similar technology gets to the level of being actually applicable en masse, it'll be under the wing of some corporate monopoly that will rip people off.
Slightly offtopic but there needs to be some sort of a global law against hoarding technology.
I swear, gods forbid I ever needed to get these, this would be the first thing I said after the surgery.
I sort of want to stab myself in the eye now just so I can get to say that.
Jesus fuck you're dense, she's only partially deaf, being able to hear with two ears instead of one is nothing like giving a blind for life person the ability to see.
Some people are blinded or deafened by accidents or diseases, stuff like this will help them immensely.
For people blind or deaf since birth things like this will greatly help those willing to go through learning how to deal with seeing or hearing for the first time.
Why are you so angry, I am not saying this is a bad thing I think it is amazing. BUT I you can not just say that everyone should get it or they are stupid. I was just saying that many people would choose not to get it.
Also my mom is still even with a hearing aid legally deaf, if you say something she can tell you are speaking but will have to read your lips to understand you. So it would be a huge change for her. Assuming that everyone who is disabled should automatically want to be "Normal" is insulting and ridiculous.
Wasn't the thing about disabilities etc that they shouldn't define you
Many people do, the deaf and blind often do not see their disability as a horrible thing that they want to change.
My eyesight is half blind due to taking my mothers condition after birth, my eyes I think, are slowly decaying. Unless I get surgery later, I might end up medically blind.
Feels bad.

Don't worry, you will have your augmentations in ~5 years.

I can't be the only one thinking of "iEye".
Scientists: Let there be light.

Well it's going well so far with current active prosthesis so hopefully it will stay that way.

aye
My vision is subpar.
FTFY, untill someone makes a bionic eye that replicates human eyes or better, they'll be subpar.
My sight is supplemented

holy shit JC an explosive!
I'd love to have bionic eyes if I could see more colors. Being able to see more than red, blue, and green would be wicked.
wait, these have been around for years.

i find the idea of seeing more of the electromagnetic spectrum really hard to grasp

Warhammer 40k has the best bionic eyes, especially when they're weaponized.
This has to stop
you can't stop the future
So it actually picks up and interprets the light rather than just manipulating it. Awesome.
MEANWHILE RELIGION IS BUSY DOING SHIT LIKE THIS
Sorry to bring religion up, but I just find it ironic how a lot of religious people say science is wrong and bad, yet does more good in a week than religion ever has.
I guess it brings a new spin on google eyes
also, will this mean that the bionic dude can see separate things at once, as each eye isn't locked towards the other?
also, something like this has been done before, a bionic eye had been developed in the uk that allowed people to be able to see diffreneces between light and dark, allowing you to see in very pixelated vision. It did cost £2million though
I just finished my Deus Ex HR playtrough only to stumble across this article.
I feel like future.

No, within six months.
Imagine how scary it must be though to imagine changing the way you perceive the world forever, for people who are born blind and have made it through their life without vision it could be terrifying.
At first I could not understand why my mom turned down the surgery then she explained it would be like a large part of her life and a large part of her personality would be destroyed.
Are you kidding, I'd kill for extra senses I didn't have before, imagine being able to perceive everything around you in a completely different way.
Think of all the things we need to use various sensors and then put of a screen to make sense of, and being able to see the world like that all the time.

I'm pretty sure it's Daredevil and not Batman who is blind.
