This is at least giving them the powers to deal with them. I can as easily say they won't abuse their power and it has the same gravity as your statement. They want a deterrent, and I'm sure most the officers and other law enforcement personnel wouldn't have a vendetta against the bikies and abuse their power. Of course this will be a long, changing mission like they said. At least the courts and police are mostly transparent, and any ridiculous sentences have a chance to be thrown out (not being able to appeal won't hold up for long). I believe that is a better option than letting the violence and crime continue, and this is the best chance they have to bust the bikies that deserve it before they reorganise and hide themselves.
You're an idiot.
Dunno about Queensland but here in America (Indiana specifically, dunno about anywhere else), Bikers are some of the best and nicest people you'll meet, at least in my experience. Edit: That being said I can understand them wanting to get rid of them but telling people to leave the force if they even question it is ridiculous

There are nice bikers around though, some just really love bikes and riding them hanging out with like minded people.

they are not gangs just motorcycle clubs for motorcycle enthusiasts, it's 'just' some of the members who conduct in illegal activities.
wtf do you have any idea how dumb what you just said is you are seriously suggesting people should be arrested for being suspected of criminal activity. Not found guilty, just suspected.
Um yes, generally when you're a suspect, you're arrested. Trials determine whether or not you're guilty. I know what you're trying to say though.. you can't just be arrested for being affiliated with a group that is potentially involved in criminal activity. Also when I hear the term bikie:
it's bikie because everyone in australia is a fucking nasal cunt and we nickname everything
so even though the law is aimed at the criminal thug types it still encompasses normal biker clubs gg
This is practically a deja vu but in Austrailia of RICO act in the states. "organized gangs are too tough, they abuse the laws we need to make new laws that target them! dont worry though it is only to get these guys " and now RICO act is used on everyone and their fucking grandma. Called legal creep and you don't want it.
Australian slang isn't the same as American slang, get used to it
If the British can make fun of Americans speaking English, we can make fun of the Australians speaking English. ITS A VICIOUS GOD DAMN CYCLE.
Yeah Rico laws single handedly brought down the mafia
You almost make that sound like a bad thing The legal creep is bad though, please don't get me wrong
Australian slang isn't the same as American slang, get used to it
And this isn't an Australian forum. I'm not sure why some people here are getting so uptight over people being confused by the term Bikie.
And this isn't an Australian forum. I'm not sure why some people here are getting so uptight over people being confused by the term Bikie.
it sounds like a nickname a kid would call my tricycle i mean his tricycle
so even though the law is aimed at the criminal thug types it still encompasses normal biker clubs gg
Yep, but don't worry, They said that because they'd only use the laws against the criminal thugs, there was no reason to write the law so that it didn't apply to everybody. You can trust Campbell, right?
The'll just leave the police state and come here to the NT, like they're already doing. Hells angels are expanding their chapter here. Not that I care, my suburb has heaps of them move in over the last year and they've only seemed to drive off other scum and clean up the area a bit. No more drunks literally blocking your path into the local store asking for money. Only downside is they're loud as fuck and wake you up driving by at night sometimes.
least they didn't call them fags
"Bikie" looks like "Binkie" (pacifiers) which makes me think of infants clad in faded jeans and leather jackets, sporting handlebar mustaches and riding their comically undersized bikes from bar to bar across the country.
i wouldn't talk shit to bikies man
That was fucking great, best thing I've seen all week.
You guys realise that they hate the name bikie? That's the point. It's just a way to piss them off. These are fat bogans who take riding motorbikes too seriously, so it's always nice to take them down a peg.

Two nights in a row the news has had stories of police using the new laws to harass innocent people. Don't worry though, I'm sure it won't continue.
what the hell is a bikie do they mean biker ??? queensgland is weird
what the hell is a queensgland do you mean queensland ??? deaf_god is weird
The worst thing is, the government itself defines what groups to arrest / detain.
3 Definitions In this Act- association means any of the following - (a) a corporation; (b) an unincorporated association; (c) a club or a league (d) any other group of 3 or more persons by whatever name called, whether associated formally or informally and whether the group is legal or illegal.
(source: Vicious Lawless Association Disestablishment Bill 2013 - https://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/Bills/54PDF/2013/VicLawAssDisB13.pdf) It pretty much gives power to the executive & judicial parts of government to choose any group and shut them down without even any appeals. It violates the Bill of Rights and Habeas Corpus (as our federal & state governments are based from, though not on paper as part of the Australian constitution, only implied). It is a separation of powers without proper research and logic. The state government did this because it failed to see the warnings from the Gold Coast (as it has been a bikie gang hotspot for decades). First they could combat it by putting more officers on the beat but now you have a complete shake up of the judicial system, even the police union is requesting for officers to be armed with semi-automatic rifles (Remington R4). I honestly think Jarrod Bleijie (Attorney-General) has pretty much sidestepped the Governor and just unleashed an array of legislation and laws which just take your rights away. And with Abbott at the helm in Canberra, I can just say everyone in this state is truly f*cked.
