• Oculus founder Palmer Luckey secretly funds a pro-Trump organization dedicated to "shitposting"

I can't imagine myself being so heated about politics that I wouldn't buy a product just because one of the people behind it supported some candidate I didn't like, especially when said candidate is one of only two choices and both choices are very questionable anyway. Then again the only people that heated about it are the kind of people who are usually vocal monorities anywhere they go, not actually relevant or influential in any way.
This shows (in my opinion) both sides of this political rivalry have a good number of people who do not operate with logic. Obviously this does not change the quality of the Oculus in any way, yet they are reacting to this like it changes everything. As an example: I don't care if nestle has real malicious people at the helm of the company, at the end of the day they still produce a quality product. The example is a bit of a hyperbole but you get the idea.
all "dank meme" jokes aside im already sick of internet culture bleeding into the mainstream, and of course the stuff thats getting airplay just had to be the shitty meta-ironically-ironic shit from /pol/
I hate to say it man but you better stop being sick of it. Like it or not, the internet is not a small gated community only a select few get to enter anymore. It's now part of the majority of the west's lives. It's not a matter of "bleeding into the mainstream" as it is being the mainstream.
As an example: I don't care if nestle has real malicious people at the helm of the company, at the end of the day they still produce a quality product.
Nestle literally killed babies.
This is, without a doubt, the most bizarre piece of news I've ever read about this whole election.
Sales are next to 0 currently for VR right now since most enthusiasts that want it probably already have it and I am sure most is going towards Vive currently as it is the better product.
of all the things you could do with your time, why are you trying to start an internet fight
This shows (in my opinion) both sides of this political rivalry have a good number of people who do not operate with logic.
can we stop thinking Our Opinions are True Unbiased Logic
of all the things you could do with your time, why are you trying to start an internet fight
The part about Vive is accurate though [editline]23rd September 2016[/editline] Really of all the reasons to stomp your feet and go NOT BUYING OCULUS NOW FUCKERS this is the stupidest I've seen
The part about Vive is accurate though
Not really
What's up with all this hostility towards the notion of boycotting people for their disagreeable politics? I remember when people were boycotting Chick-fil-A because of their anti-gay-marriage politics and I remember Facepunch being broadly supportive of that.
The part about Vive is accurate though
you and your jokes
Isn't it though? I was under the impression most people had jumped ship to the Vive. At least most people I talk to certainly did. Does anyone have the exact stats for this handy?
This election just gets more entertaining by the day. God damn, I cannot wait for the shitstorm that is going to be the first debates.
if you had 40 keks, how would you distribute them to the poor.
Isn't it though? I was under the impression most people had jumped ship to the Vive. At least most people I talk to certainly did. Does anyone have the exact stats for this handy?
A lot of people did in fact jump ship to the Vive when it became known that Facebook had bought Oculus and shitposts started being spread about Facebook having some of its software within the Oculus, popping ads and whatnot. That was the time the major split happened. Stating with certainty though that the Vive is the better product is foolish, considering that both HMDs have pros and cons and opinions are very much divided even within people who own both HMDs. Example case, TB who owns both a Vive and a Rift: (25:03)
if you had 40 keks, how would you distribute them to the poor.
That's a trick question, the lord Kek only works in doubles, triples, quads, etc.
What's up with all this hostility towards the notion of boycotting people for their disagreeable politics? I remember when people were boycotting Chick-fil-A because of their anti-gay-marriage politics and I remember Facepunch being broadly supportive of that.
It's a complete knee jerk reaction. It's so much outrage at a company for something which is practically nothing compared to other things. It's not even the work of the company, it's completely exterior to it.
Nimble America says it’s dedicated to proving that “shitposting is powerful and meme magic is real,”
I've mentioned something about this before, but phrases like "meme magic" in this context are just a whimsical term for what is basically posting in an echo chamber of lazy political propaganda. The lack of critical thought or basic decency that goes into "ironic" shitposting stay long after the irony leaves, and what you're left with is bunch of people drinking kool-aide thinking what epic trolles they must be.
Isn't it though? I was under the impression most people had jumped ship to the Vive. At least most people I talk to certainly did.
The only thing the vive has on the rift is motion controls, which will no longer be the case after touch comes out next month. At that point, both headsets will be roughly comparable in terms of visual fidelity, tracking area/quality, and core functionality. ...meanwhile, the rift is inarguably the more polished consumer product. The ergonomics are incredibly well thought out, whereas HTC literally rushed out their DK2 (the vive pre) in order to compete.
To me it seems ridiculous that supporting a political candidate with >30% national support still warrants some kind of witch-hunt from certain circles. He might be a shitty candidate but people act as if he was literally the second-coming of hitler, how does that even makes sense? Also, any dev that gives up their support because of the founders political affiliation just sounds immature. Oculus is a big company already, with a diverse set of ideas and political affiliations, the founder is just one person and he is not even the CEO, which has a lot more power in setting the culture of the company.
What an incredibly petty thing to cease doing business over.
Who cares? I don't even want a rift and really, who gives a fuck?
tbh i dont care what peoples political views are, say whatever you want i dont care, but the moment someone funds/supports-with-actions a political movement then dont be suprised to see backlash. theres a reason companies usually stay out of broad politics unless they are able to blatantly pander with it for $$$. Lets also not forget VR is in a really sensitive state right now and any stupid shit like this can easily fuck shit up for pr. your avg consumer aint gonna know the difference between a vive and a rift right now.

My favorite part: He already has his money, so people are boycotting Mark Zuckerberg instead now without even realizing it.
This is his revenge on the public for laughing at him because of this cover: [t]http://static.giantbomb.com/uploads/scale_super/2/29735/2771668-1225854143-bI2PI.jpg[/t]
on a related note: i mean you can't say this news isn't giving us some quality content
The oculus subreddit is
no different from the rest of reddit it's all like this
I hope these kind of things doesn't become a norm in the West as it already is in places like China. An incredibly large group of people paid to post propaganda and steer the discussion of topics online. It's quite scary considering how many people are purely getting their information from forums like this.
Soon presidential campaigns will be won solely with the use of memes and shit posting. in the future there wont be need for a debate. The election will be held on the front page of reddit, meme after meme, pepe after pepe, shit post after shit post. and literally EVERYONE will think its normal. (this isn't normal)
Facebook is a Trump supporter too, so not that mislead.
Are we talking about the same facebook which suppressed conservative news?
Facebook is a Trump supporter too, so not that mislead.
Where did you get that impression lol [editline]23rd September 2016[/editline]
tbh i dont care what peoples political views are, say whatever you want i dont care, but the moment someone funds/supports-with-actions a political movement then dont be suprised to see backlash. theres a reason companies usually stay out of broad politics unless they are able to blatantly pander with it for $$$. every single person who uses this as an argument against the rift is a butthole
