Looks like we might have another Phil Fish meltdown if Oculus Rift owners tweet back.

Does the rift have a sticker on it that says "Made to support Trump"? No. "Wah, someone supports different political ideas than me and it doesn't show in the product at all"
I swear that Oculus is entirely owned and operated by Facebook now anyway

Good riddance, Jesus Christ the entire dev team might be the most pretensions one active right now. A virtual 3d tetris and they're already saying they're inspired by Blade Runner.
its kind of comedic that Zuckerberg's product is getting shit on because the guy they bought it from a long long time ago is funding trump shitposting [editline]23rd September 2016[/editline] correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure he isn't getting royalties or involved with the production and design
Does the rift have a sticker on it that says "Made to support Trump"? No. "Wah, someone supports different political ideas than me and it doesn't show in the product at all"
Palmer is using money he gets paid from Oculus to fund Trump. Ergo, if you support the rift, you indirectly fund trump.
Does the rift have a sticker on it that says "Made to support Trump"? No. "Wah, someone supports different political ideas than me and it doesn't show in the product at all"
The rift doesn't, but if you buy the rift, that money partially goes to a person that supports him and that cause. It's not stupid if some people don't want their money going towards a cause they completely don't want to support at all.
The only thing the vive has on the rift is motion controls, which will no longer be the case after touch comes out next month. At that point, both headsets will be roughly comparable in terms of visual fidelity, tracking area/quality, and core functionality. ...meanwhile, the rift is inarguably the more polished consumer product. The ergonomics are incredibly well thought out, whereas HTC literally rushed out their DK2 (the vive pre) in order to compete.
It's so funny watching Oculus fanboys cry foul when somebody says the Vive is better, then try to play neutral by saying they're roughly equivalent systems and then immediately follow with "anyway.. the Oculus is clearly the better product, you stupid Vive fanboys!"
So by that logic they support deplorable working conditions and such?
If Oculus are using deplorable working conditions to create the rift, then yes I would say.

A virtual 3d tetris and they're already saying they're inspired by Blade Runner.
Polytron(-published?) games tend to be pretentious, but usually they're pretty decent. Still, releasing a press statement via Pastebin (and as guest and seemingly without much effort going into the writing) is terribly unprofessional.
I'm a bit concerned with the anger I've been seeing towards Palmer because I feel that it's not because he's using money to influence an election, but rather because of his choice of candidate. I also have a feeling that even if it is the former, they wouldn't be angry if it was for their candidate.
So by that logic they support deplorable working conditions and such?
remember what comrade sonic says [t]http://i.imgur.com/wi1QIgG.jpg[/t]
To me it seems ridiculous that supporting a political candidate with >30% national support still warrants some kind of witch-hunt from certain circles. He might be a shitty candidate but people act as if he was literally the second-coming of hitler, how does that even makes sense? Also, any dev that gives up their support because of the founders political affiliation just sounds immature. Oculus is a big company already, with a diverse set of ideas and political affiliations, the founder is just one person and he is not even the CEO, which has a lot more power in setting the culture of the company.
Bro Team and Nigoh posted some overviews:
I'm a bit concerned with the anger I've been seeing towards Palmer because I feel that it's not because he's using money to influence an election, but rather because of his choice of candidate. Judging by some of those headlines, quite a few articles seem to be less 'Here's a financial link you may want to take into account [even though you wouldn't be directly supporting him anyway].' and more 'This guy supports are terrible candidate and now we're going to dismantle his life'. I can't say I've checked a significant amount of these, but the 'award' here probably goes to Gizmodo for dragging his loved one into it in the title.
In a surprise announcement, the social networking company said it had paid $400m in cash and the rest in more than 23m shares, currently worth $1.6bn [£970m], plus an additional $300m pegged to future performance. A detailed company statement said that Facebook recognised how Oculus had built a solid following among game developers, but that virtual reality technology would expand to other industries from communications and entertainment to education and media.
https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/mar/25/facebook-buys-virtual-reality-gaming-firm-oculus wish there was a more transparent explanation like who's getting what money and the shares and such. Some other guy thats a cofounder is quoted in this article [editline]23rd September 2016[/editline]
Besides gathering developers working on games and apps for the Rift, the company promises it'll be giving them a heads-up on the next developments for its technology, with keynotes from CEO Brendan Iribe, founder Palmer Luckey, CTO Carmack and chief scientist Michael Abrash on "Oculus, virtual reality, and the future of the medium".
Does standing CEO or Founder get the better deal typically? [editline]23rd September 2016[/editline] Either way I'd say unless that $300m to "future performance" means anything, I don't think your rift purchase is gonna directly add to his fund. This stupid controversy might hurt share price a bit though, maybe
[...] ok seriously need some info does he get royalties in the acquisition or is this part of his already paid sum
He still works there in a leading position, so it's pretty likely he'd get a bonus for success of the device. He's financially set anyway, but supporting the company would most likely indirectly give him more 'spending money' for things like this one.
ah that I wasn't aware of, I would've thought he sold out and went home
ah that I wasn't aware of, I would've thought he sold out and went home
It's pretty common with people in tech, I think. Notch is quite the outlier in that regard, since he didn't seem to have much fun working on Minecraft after a certain point (and had delegated most of the work). [editline]23rd September 2016[/editline]
This is his revenge on the public for laughing at him because of this cover: [t]http://static.giantbomb.com/uploads/scale_super/2/29735/2771668-1225854143-bI2PI.jpg[/t]
[t]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CtCsLAqW8AAyDnq.jpg:orig[/t] (source) I don't think that's working out so well :v:
Notch had the right idea imo He's pretty set up to just do whatever he wants and fund it, I would've expected this guy to be doing the same when he decided to make a literal meme army
if i were a bored millionaire with more money than i knew what to do with i would secretly fund shitposters on both sides of the political spectrum and watch them fight for my entertainment

I wasn't trying to "look neutral" I just thought the discussion would go a bit better if someone actually explained themselves for once instead of driveby shitposting their opinion like the last two people had. but if we're going to talk about fanboys, let's talk about how you jumped from a post about technical comparison to actual namecalling.

Such ludicrous fanboyism" "The Rift is unarguably the more polished product, Vive is just a developer kit!!"
"How dare you claim that the Vive is a better product.. Such ludicrous fanboyism"
You're straight up putting words in my mouth. Maybe you would understand what I was trying to say if you actually read my posts before going into vive defense mode, but just because I'm nice I'll spell this out for you. I have 0 problems with someone preferring the vive or stating that preference. I have a problem with someone who pretentiously implies it's objectively the best without being willing to even talk about why they think that. If I did that for the rift you'd call me out on it, but when I call it out I'm a fanboy. Ok.
"The Rift is unarguably the more polished product, Vive is just a developer kit!!"
I think the fact that you have to chop up what I've said, remove it from it's context and add exclamation points kind of says it all. [editline]1[/editline] like maybe you can just use the reply button? Maybe if you can't tone police me by directly quoting me you should just stop?
Palmer is using money he gets paid from Oculus to fund Trump. Ergo, if you support the rift, you indirectly fund trump.
If you seriously believe this, I don't know what to tell you. You do realize that no matter what product you buy from what company, with how many people support Trump, some money is eventually gonna go to a Trump supporter who happens to work there, right?
You do realize that no matter what product you buy from what company, with how many people support Trump, some money is eventually gonna go to a Trump supporter who happens to work there, right?
But in this case, you also get to post on forums about how outraged you are, which shows to an audience that you don't support Trump. The money doesn't matter, it's all about people showing what they stand for.
But in this case, you also get to post on forums about how outraged you are, which shows to an audience that you don't support Trump. The money doesn't matter, it's all about people showing what they stand for.
That's irrelevant with how many people already show their hatred for Trump on a daily basis on the internet. The kind of people who would stop buying a product because of something like this are likely the kind of people who insist on making it immediately apparent who they do and don't support anyway
