Edit: lol, its sick how all your replies are you just backpedaling and changing the topic. "Don't reply to what I said before, reply to my attempt at saving face instead!"
my point is that what I'm saying now isn't actually different, you're just too dense to tell
I could've called them fanboys for posting as if it's just a fact that the vive is better, but I posted why I thought the rift was better instead so that we would have a starting point for discussion that isn't cancer. Instead you did what I was avoiding and went straight for the f word as if saying it first makes it true.
All you do is derail shit and start flamewars. Stop posting.
Here's a Twitter thread detailing some of the ensuing harassment:

if theres anything i learned from gamergate, it's that it is okay to write harrassing news articles about women on big gaming sites if they are on "the wrong side of history"
I am deeply sorry that my actions are negatively impacting the perception of Oculus and its partners. The recent news stories about me do not accurately represent my views.
Here’s more background: I contributed $10,000 to Nimble America because I thought the organization had fresh ideas on how to communicate with young voters through the use of several billboards. I am a libertarian who has publicly supported Ron Paul and Gary Johnson in the past, and I plan on voting for Gary in this election as well.
I am committed to the principles of fair play and equal treatment. I did not write the "NimbleRichMan" posts, nor did I delete the account. Reports that I am a founder or employee of Nimble America are false. I don’t have any plans to donate beyond what I have already given to Nimble America.
Still, my actions were my own and do not represent Oculus. I’m sorry for the impact my actions are having on the community.
So if that's correct this whole thing is pretty much a complete non story.
Modern journalism is about extrapolating vague "information" to make profit

what a fucking scary level of gossip this is, I feel bad for Palmer for having to deal with being enough of a celebrity to get this bullshit now
Note how this is carefully worded:
I did not write the "NimbleRichMan" posts, nor did I delete the account.
He does not say that it wasn't his account. A possibility is that Palmer shared control of the account with someone else, and although he wrote some of the posts under the account, he did not write the specific ones in the Daily Beast article.
time to see whos lying though, daily beast or palmer.
this shit's getting interesting
personally i think the daily beast is a trash news source, which is why i hesitated posting this thread, but after the evisceration of gawker i don't think they're dumb enough to risk a libel case against a millionaire
The gamergate/girlfriend shit is dumb.
So if that's correct this whole thing is pretty much a complete non story.
Even if the part about not posting on the account is true, the takeaway is he still donated to a Trump PAC (and for some reason is trying to persuade us that what he really wants to do is #feelthejohnson). Far from a non-story.

Donating to any PAC is a non-story too unless it was done in the name of a company which is not the case
If he is lying about being a Gary Johnson supporter, I can see why he'd do it. It's a scary world we live in where you have to walk on eggshells to make sure nobody finds out you support a certain candidate, not to mention the first or second most popular candidate in the race, just because some morons will throw a hissy fit about it because you're "supporting a fascist" or other utter cobblers.
I don't really understand how this even got out. Palmer emailed Daily Beast and just felt like telling them he is donating to this organization? What happened exactly, because reading the OP article makes it hard to find evidence of Palmer actually being involved in all this.
This is fucking pathetic. Modern news is tabloid trash, political advertising tries to be hip and cool with fucking shitposting, Americans are at each other's throats over which shitbag they support for POTUS, witch hunts happening over hearsay, emotions preferred over logic, reason and facts, if I was a bigger cynic I'd think this was a goddamn conspiracy to keep people stupid and uninformed so they don't look at their lives, their leaders, their media and try to fix this shithole of a political system or fix the bigger issues like poverty, hunger, homelessness, etc.
Who gives a crap about what some company man supports? If I didn't buy things from companies and people who were unethical I'd be living in dirt because every company out there has either done terrible shit or supports something/someone that does. I mean if we're going to boycott shit like Oculus and Chic-fil-a we might as well not pay our taxes to not support a corrupt government, or not buy and electronics or wear clothes to not support the exploitation of workers. You can't pick and choose the things it's okay to buy without being a big fat hypocrite.
Doesn't matter what you buy, somebody in that transaction is getting paid who you wouldn't want to support, even if the fucking janitor for the office building of the company who makes the product you bought is a racist. Ethical consumption is a pipe dream, you are not personally responsible for what people do after you give them cash for a product, the only reason people are upset over it is because they're rabid political supporters who have a "with us or against us" mentality.
God damn I wish human beings didn't have such easily exploitable psychological quirks that lead us to be divisive, tribalistic and just plain retarded.
Donating to any PAC is a non-story too unless it was done in the name of a company which is not the case
Anyone uncomfortable with the idea of money influencing politics would disagree with the assertion that donating money to a PAC is a non-story. Honestly it just seems like it's a story you just don't want reported, for whatever reason.

It just seems like a bizarre way to spin the story. Surely if you believed in Johnson you would donate the money towards a PAC that supports him, and not his (arguably bigger than Clinton) opponent.

I think it's alright to 'vote with your wallet', even if you can't do it to its logical conclusion while living reasonably comfortably (unless you have enough money to pay someone to take care of it).
My main problem here is the smear campaign that goes way beyond just reporting what political stance he has.

Correct me if I am wrong but I am fairly certain you have in the past tried to use Trumps lack of funding as a point against him.
In terms of a PAC, $10,000 is a non-story, especially when it sounds like it wasnt originally for Trump.

As far as I can tell Nimble America only supports Trump. How can that money not be originally for him? And for that matter, how high would the amount have to be to become a story? And for that matter, what qualifies a story as a story?

It's been like 24 hours and he is throwing the dev tools, given to him, back at Oculus for something which isn't even connected to them business-wise? And yet he seems to be glad to still sell to Oculus users without ensuring that everything works properly for them.
Talk about dropping the ball after all that trouble he went to embellishing his speech.
What's he gonna do when some issue arises, some bug or something, where he needs to have a Touch with him to identify and fix the problem? "Sorry Oculus users, but I can't fix the issue with the product I sold to you, not because I don't have the technical capabilities but because I decided to be a misguided tightwad about politics"? I hope he gains some sense before then.

Obviously that's not such a good idea, is it.
Obviously that's not such a good idea, is it.
if he was a known trump supporter before all this this wouldn't be such a huge deal.
sure people would treat him differently, but it wouldn't be as terrible of a reaction as it is right now.
he also lied about his stance on who hes voting for in his apology, you dont lie to the internet without someone catching on.

Head of content at Oculus

It really just sucks for Oculus. They were back on the good-news train, Oculus Connect 3 is coming up, and there are plenty of great people working there. Now this shit.
Yeah I fail to see why him supporting Donald Trump is fucking news.

Are people not reading? It's not supporting Trump, its funding a white supremacy trolling group.
