Why can't we fucking love eachother
why is it ok when countries like australia are super exclusive with immigration, yet when big giant america does it it's some sort of horrible concept?
Huh? Love the passive-aggressive bullshit you tacked onto the end.
No, they don't pay taxes.
sales taxes?

illegal immigrants don't buy all their stuff from some tax free haven

Illegal immigrants more often than not pay payroll taxes and sales tax. Since you apparently refused to read the sources he mentioned, though, let me help you:
Over the past two decades, most efforts to estimate the fiscal impact of immigration in the United States have concluded that, in aggregate and over the long term, tax revenues of all types generated by immigrants—both legal and unauthorized—exceed the cost of the services they use.
Who said it's "ok" when other countries do it?

I believe Martele was talking about the taxes that get deducted from our paychecks.
I believe Martele was talking about the taxes that get deducted from our paychecks.
Many illegal immigrants are on the books with old SSNs of people who have died, and they therefore pay those taxes, too.
man fuck these kids
Oh boy, get ready for the influx of gangs and gang wars.
Because if we ain't helping them, they are gonna say "fuck you" and learn that the only way to live is to stick together and make money any way they can.
but.. but they might give us Ebola..
Forgetting the illegal part, this anti-foreigner and anti-immigrant sentiment is disgusting. Especially when I hear it from people like Bill O' Reilly. The way they speak makes me think that they want to re establish the immigration race quota's of the 1920s.

Immigration Act of 1924 was all about limiting Italians coming to the US.
The truth is when people in power or who want more power would like to get public support, they'll look for scapegoats. Immigrants, because of their lack of economic power and because of pre-existing racism, are an easy target. The only thing that ever changes is which immigrants get the blame. Chinese...Italian...Mexican...someday another group. "It's those immigrants' fault your life sucks!" is the scam.
The truth is immigrants are suffering as much, if not more, than the average citizen. They aren't your enemy. Who is your enemy? Well, who has all the money and power? It's not immigrants.
While I agree with the sentiment, those coming through Ellis Island did so in a controlled, imaginable, and legal manner.
The problem with that is getting here legally just isn't possible for most people anymore.
It doesn't need to be some super accessible easy to do thing to move to another country just because you want to. There's already 317 Million people here, nothing wrong with being exclusive and taking your time at that point. Just because you want to really badly doesn't mean you should just get a free pass to come here when there are people waiting and willing to go through the proper channels. Cheapens all other immigrants willing to do it right when you think you are entitled to a life somewhere else just because you exist in the same universe as it. All of my last jobs have been working with people or working FOR people who went through the proper channels and put in the work to get here. Mexicans, Indians, Dominicans, a greek guy, and my current manager from a backwater in Bangladesh. All of them worked damn hard to get here and it kind of pisses me off to see people think they deserve to be let in with open arms just because they feel like they deserve it for one reason or another.
seriously though a huge influx of immigrants actually has the capability to effectively crash a city or town if they don't have the resources immediately available to serve them. one of the cities in my state is trying to enroll an extra 300 kids for school this coming fall. they don't have anywhere near the space nor budget cap to accommodate them and it is becoming a huge problem
When was there Anti-German sentiments in the United States, besides the first half of the 20th century? I thought a large portion of Americans were ethnically German.
Yes, there were a lot of ethnic Germans, however soldiers in the Revolution did fight against mercenaries from the minor German kingdoms (Hesse-Kassel is an example, from which we derive the term "Hessians").
German immigrants to the US also included a lot of the poorer German Catholics, making them a target of anti-Catholic sentiment in the US.

Maybe do something about the legal citizens living in tents first, because I lived near the one in Clear Water, FL and it was gigantic.

The whole 'wait in line' argument is pretty bullshit because most of the people who get into America illegally had practically no proper channels to go through.
If you are not educated or not rich than you have practically zero chance of getting into America. The only ways you can really get in is if you get a work permit (which are extremely rare because most businesses end up hiring people who get here illegally) or marry a US citizen.
People can't wait in line if there is no line to wait in.
It's interesting that people rally to the defense of the immigrants when this happens in the United States, but if something like this were to happen in, say, Italy, most people would turn the other way or even outright support the protesters.
I'm not saying this makes it okay if it were to happen somewhere else, but the United States is literally a nation of immigrants (Other than Native Americans obviously), built by immigrants, for immigrants. I mean shit, it's amazing that every major US city has pockets of so many different cultures, European, Asian, Central and South American. No other country really has such a rich history of immigration, so it should be no surprise that there's so many people defending it.
With the Americans who are already here (of all races and colors) who are already having a hard time because of the economy I just don't agree with taking on even more people when we cant even seem to take care of our own. Its not racist its economics.
edit: anyone care to respond instead of just "hrrr drr racist have a box"

Nice sources, truly opened my eyes with your backed up factual information.
The problem with this for me isn't that people are coming into our country. It's the fact that me the tax payer am the one paying for these people to live. And we already have enough people living off of government assistance that abuse it. I could care less about immigrants coming here but only if they pay their own fucking bills and shit!!!!!!

why is it our problem that there countries have terrible conditions? Look at the Arab spring. They did something about it. Some communities in Mexico have armed anti cartel patrols.
"but but but were a country started by immigrants"
yeah well that was a long time ago where land was plenty and opportunity to be had by all. This is no longer the case. Country's full go fix your own.

12 years to citizenship isn't it?
I don't understand what is going on in this thread! Is the facepunch hivemind for or against illegal immigration?
I don't see how letting "kids" or adults cross the border and then dumping them into cities spread across the nation a good idea. Especially when some of them have serious diseases which can spread.

The facepunch hivemind doesn't consider it "illegal immigration" because in their opinion, there isn't a way for low skilled immigrants to be able to legally immigrate fast enough and in enough numbers.
It's not a good idea to flood an already over-saturated low skilled labor market with more people, but nobody seems to comprehend this....

no it means your a dity racist who wants to see brown children die. How dare you speak logic here.
I feel there has been a rise in xenophobia, but most of it in a reaction to just bad events. I may be talking out of my ass, but its definitely true that if people want to make an honest living here in the states, then let em.
But securing the border is only one step in a slew of problems to have properly regulated border control/legal immigration from Central America.
My sister actually wanted to go again, this would had been her 3rd time, first 2 times she was stopped at Houston, but this time she wanted to go with her sons of 6 and 4 years, I hated her for that reason, she stopped going to school at like middle school because she was lazy as fuck, and she had the thought that if she didn't get a job here she would get one there, as for now she never left and that's good

except immigration under proper reform will actually help the US economy

i'm not sure what exact "economic issues" you're talking about, i'm guessing you're trying to say they'll steal our jerbs but that's absurd because the average american worker is not looking for the same level of job that an illegal immigrant is looking for
illegal immigrants DO indeed pay taxes in rather large numbers, with $10.6 billion in state and local taxes in 2010
http://www.itep.org/immigration/
once again, proper reform of immigration policy would actually help the US by increasing tax revenue and US GDP
a harvard study even found that illegal immigrants contribute to medicare so much that restricting immigration could actually harm the medicare program
