Not in my backyard: Small towns across the US protest surge of immigrant kids

NIMBY is probably one of the biggest reasons we can't upgrade or change our infrastructure to better and more efficiently get things for the majority of people.
people really need to go back to history class and learn what the inscription on the statue of liberty says
Dumb people always ignore that part. It's why they exist unfortunately.
I live in Oracle, AZ. Its a tiny ass town in the middle of the desert. Half of the people here protesting didn't understand what was even going on.
If those kids have two functioning brain cells, they won't want anything to do with small town America.
err
i think small town america is a step up from playing in literal shit over in mexico
except immigration under proper reform will actually help the US economy

i'm not sure what exact "economic issues" you're talking about, i'm guessing you're trying to say they'll steal our jerbs but that's absurd because the average american worker is not looking for the same level of job that an illegal immigrant is looking for
illegal immigrants DO indeed pay taxes in rather large numbers, with $10.6 billion in state and local taxes in 2010
http://www.itep.org/immigration/
once again, proper reform of immigration policy would actually help the US by increasing tax revenue and US GDP
a harvard study even found that illegal immigrants contribute to medicare so much that restricting immigration could actually harm the medicare program

this doesn't focus on just illegal immigrants but it's still a good read

All I'm seeing here is more profit for the government and business owners to piss away leaving the rest of us to work for less or be unemployed. As a blue collar warehouse worker this does directly effect me. Sorry I don't want to live in a one bedroom apartment with 10 other people on a mattress on the floor. Not that it matters because that's what people will be driven to since a large influx of people will drive up rent prices since they have to live somewhere.
Now I'm not saying close the border but the system should be reformed and only let in enough people that the economy can handle instead of just opening the floodgates.

What makes you think you're more special or entitled than the immigrants are? Why do you have more of a right than them?
The problem with this for me isn't that people are coming into our country. It's the fact that me the tax payer am the one paying for these people to live. And we already have enough people living off of government assistance that abuse it. I could care less about immigrants coming here but only if they pay their own fucking bills and shit!!!!!!
How is my post dumb everybody should have to pay their own way unless you are literally disabled where you cannot. And last I checked being an immigrant and not being able to speak English doesn't qualify you as disabled. When I was in high school I worked with plenty of immigrants that spoke barely any English but they were still working at Burger King working their ass off to live and those are the ones that I respect not the ones that just sit around and take. Not to mention that many of my friends at Burger King that I met who were immigrants came in the right way and had their green cards.
Illegal immigrants pay taxes(granted it is illegally, since the businesses that employ them do either give them the SSN of dead people, sell them to them, or any other option that ends with the immigrant having the SSN of a dead person. This is for tax reasons and to cover the business from getting fucked by the government about employing slave labour) and get virtually none of the tax-paid benefits from the system. Thanks but try again.

The whole 'wait in line' argument is pretty bullshit because most of the people who get into America illegally had practically no proper channels to go through.
If you are not educated or not rich than you have practically zero chance of getting into America. The only ways you can really get in is if you get a work permit (which are extremely rare because most businesses end up hiring people who get here illegally) or marry a US citizen.
People can't wait in line if there is no line to wait in.
No country has any obligation to bring uneducated people into the system simply because their home country is a piece of shit and it makes you feel better about humanity.
A lot of immigrants get paid under the table. My father is an electrician and while he doesn't employe any immigrants himself he knows plenty of contractors that use immigrants to do odd jobs. And they are paid under the table. It's pretty much a losing battle no matter what we do they will find a way around it. Immigrants aren't bad but just because we can help doesn't mean we are obligated to (maybe that's why all these people are getting so pissed off). Those other countries need to get their shit together and we wouldn't have these problems.
What makes you think you're more special or entitled than the immigrants are? Why do you have more of a right than them?
Maybe because I'm a US citizen... I don't go to Europe or Canada and start demanding there tax payer health care then scream racism when I don't get it. They have rights too. Just in there own country.
A lot of you keep saying the idea that these illegal immigrants will actually help. But the problem is you're looking too far into the future. I actually live in one of these towns and having thousands of kids being dumped in here would be really detrimental. Sure, a lot of the protestors are those "Jebus wouldn't break the law" idiots, but with no real legislation because of deadlocked Congress, it really would be a bad idea to bring them all in here. Especially since some of them have diseases and/or bugs on them.

Thank you for exemplifying the general ignorance that people have about immigrants in this country.
The Congressional Budget Office confirms that immigrants — both documented and undocumented — contribute more in tax revenue than they take through government programs.
I live in Murrieta, one of the cities mentioned.
Kinda a hard situation for me to have an opinion on, I mean they had buses filled with immigrants from further south than mexico, in which many of the people have HEP and SARS and stuff, and they picked the biggest "white conservative" town (besides our neighboring Temecula) in all of Southern California to drop them off.
The protesters were embarrassing, the fact that they're literally letting them do whatever until their court dates ( which most of won't go to ) is also a pretty shitty way to deal with the problem, the whole system is fucked up.
And the idea that you can get citizenship faster if you basically bum-rush the border instead of applying is also proof to the idea that our system is broken. I have a friend from Canada with parents who have been in line to get approved for citizenship in the U.S. for 3 years.
It's just a big mess. They had Homeland Defense helicopters watching the buses from above on the 4th of July.
why is it ok when countries like australia are super exclusive with immigration, yet when big giant america does it it's some sort of horrible concept?
But our policies aren't okay. I suppose you didn't hear the uproar when asylum seekers were returned by Australian authorities back to Sri Lanka?
How is my post dumb
Regardless of your opinion, the fact that you ended your post with six exclamation points like a fucking idiot doesn't help.
The point is that we have no obligation to take care of these people. Not saying we shouldn't because we should. You can rate me dumb all you want but this whole thing about mass amounts of people crossing the border and expecting care from us is what seems to be pissing people off. They need to fix the system if it is indeed broken like many say it is. It seems like the immigrants are taking advantage of the fact that we are so nice and how are borders suck.

Your posts are dumb because.
1. You ignore the fact that people who cross the border illegally help out this country.
2. You ignore the fact they would help out the country a lot more if there was a much more lax immigration system
3. You ignore the fact that illegal immigrants are exploited by our immigration system.
The only way to really fix the system is to make the system easier to get through, not harder. Make it easier for someone to be able to get citizenship.
I don't care what your opinion is and you don't have to care about mine. The fact is tax payer money doesn't have an obligation to take care of anyone except the legal tax paying citizens. Taking from a pot that you have not contributed to is wrong in my opinion. I'm talking about the camps and people on those buses not the ones that are already here. My posts aren't about those that are already here. End of story, think whatever you want because you're entitled to your opinion and so am I.

yay more tax money for the government to spend on fighter jets no one wants. Meanwhile everyone seems to forget Detroit exists.
