Because they're destroying tons of perfectly legal weapons that could be resold for a massive profit for the local government. It's a massively missed opportunity.
The article is hilarious how bad it's written. It drips with bias, more than Fox and CNN combined.

it's in their jurisdiction and they're destroying evidence
One of the guns on the table looks like an M1 Garand. How sad. :(
D'aw what the fuck.
As opposed to non-military grade rocket launchers.

it's in their jurisdiction and they're destroying evidence
Evidence?
To what?
And isn't destroying evidence, I dunno, illegal?
it's in their jurisdiction and they're destroying evidence
Ok, but that doesn't make it any less dumb.
In a couple of those images, it looks like there are some older rifles. I hate seeing such things to be destroyed.
They propel rocket grenades, but the official called them "non-working" because they did not have the "projectiles" with them. Thank God!?
Any asshole can get a deactivated, spent LAW or AT-4 tube. The article is sensationalist bullshit, it's not like people are running around with RPGs like Somalia or someplace.
Everything local and state governments do in California is fucking retarded so this doesn't surprise me. This state is screwed.
Because they're destroying tons of perfectly legal weapons that could be resold for a massive profit for the local government. It's a massively missed opportunity.
once again, its politics
destroying these 'vile weapons' and creating a clean environment for everyone in la oozes more fervor than having the government be a middleman to putting them back on the streets
how do u not see this
Yay more media scare tactic pictures.

An M16A1, the remains of a Sten, and what looks like an MP40 in the back there. :(
I'd love to have an used AT4 tube for decoration, that thing looks badass. Mount it on the wall or something.
Oh god an MP40, holy hell, those things cost thousands.

I understand that, but again, it doesn't make it any less dumb. politics isn't justification for stupidity.
it's in their jurisdiction and they're destroying evidence
Evidence?
For what?
Because they're destroying tons of perfectly legal weapons that could be resold for a massive profit for the local government. It's a massively missed opportunity.
the whole point of the buyback is to get guns off the streets! selling them completely defeats the purpose.
Ok, but that doesn't make it any less dumb.
then lecture me on why it is dumb
the whole point of the buyback is to get guns off the streets! selling them completely defeats the purpose.
But they don't have to destroy them. They can sell them back to a state-armory, or have them shipped elsewhere over the country.
I bet all 1962 of those guns weren't involved in any crime.
I understand that, but again, it doesn't make it any less dumb. politics isn't justification for stupidity.
politics = stupidity u moron
its not about the guns at all, its about public relations. every one of u who bitch and moan about the guns being destroyed are completely missing the issue

Somebodies grandfather lugged that MP40 home from Germany, and the fucker who received it as an heirloom couldn't even appreciate it, so they traded it for a 100$ applebees gift card. Fuck that guy. Reminds me of the guy who let an "artist" melt down his fathers 1911 he carried during WWII to be used in some BS art piece.
The guy in the first and second picture reminded me of Joseph Stalin for some reason.
the fact that people are selling ones that have yet to be used/discharged is what's concerning dude
Really.
That M16A1 better be a mockup. If it's an original, what the fuck.
The guy in the first and second picture reminded me of Joseph Stalin for some reason.
To me he looks more like Saddam.
then lecture me on why it is dumb
The majority of the weapons on that table are perfectly legal to own. Destroying them is utterly pointless and a waste of money. At the very least the receivers should be demilled and sold for parts.
then lecture me on why it is dumb
On that table alone there are at least four items which can never be replaced. They are no longer in production and haven't been for decades. They saw major world wars and are pieces of history that pose ultimately extremely little threat to basically anyone.
The rest of it, whatever. The joke is on the police. Melt them down and the gun industry will buy back the recycled cheap ingots and then proceed to sell more brand new guns and bolster their company further. The biggest issue a firearm company has to face is that their product will likely outlive their customer. Melt them down and that only helps them to make more guns with better profit margins. :D
it's in their jurisdiction and they're destroying evidence
How can you not understand how much of a waste this is?
You've probably never even owned weapons...
They occassionally do things like this every so often and it's pretty obvious the only reason they reported on this is just because of the shootings but then again the source is LA based. This isn't something out of the ordinary guys, it happens all the time. Each time it does it always sad to see the occassional piece of history sent to scrap because the person getting rid of it inherited it and doesn't know anything about it.
