[editline]23rd December 2013[/editline]
My Dad's place has no power, and my moms place has no internet or cable, but has power.
My place was unaffected luckily.
Report from the Netherlands: fuck all is happening. Literally. No rain,no snow,no sunshine. It isn't cold and not warm either. The fuck man
West Michigan here, we lost power all day yesterday from 10am to 11pm. The estimation on our electric company's website was "Dec 25th at 11:30PM". I'm so glad that it was wrong, because 3 days of that would have been torture.
Calgary here. Snow as usual. Calgary master race.
Halifax, NS reporting in, nothing but rain.
Napanee again, today all the ice of the ground is mostly gone, but the ice hanging from trees and stuff is still here.
We had large icicles on our house too but my step father and sister harvested them for ice in their whiskey.
Time to watch the only true fantastic four movie, Ang Lee's Ice Storm.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, it's one of Ang Lee's good movies.
no one has superpowers, just the beginning talking about the negative zone of mr fantastic sacrificing his son has something to do with the plot
For those who do, I'm tasting poop right now.
In Michigan we got hit pretty badly with ice as well.
One of our counties has 70% of customers without power and doesn't even have 911 service FFS.
The Barry County Central Dispatch Center has lost power, and as a result, 911 calls are not being received.
If you need to make an emergency call, you are asked to call the Barry County Sheriff's Office at 269.948.4801.
Not sure how that's not on a generator...
I was actually stuck at a friend's cottage in huntsville an extra day because our parents told us to not come home, as the roads were far too dangerous. Luckily my apartment hadn't lost power, otherwise I'd be coming home to some damn moldy food.
We're getting a black Christmas here in Finland.
Not up here in north.
It's snowing even more right now.
So on my way to work in Vaughan yesterday I discovered that Black Creek and Lawrence, right at the base of the 400, still had no power (even on my way home at 9:45 last night no power). The roads were backed up all the way to Trethewey in one direction and the Jane St. offramp in the other direction. A 20 minute trip took me 45 minutes because I had to go around traffic, and I pity the people at the end of that line on the highway, probably took them an hour to get off. I still can't understand why they didn't have a cop there directing traffic, of all the places you'd think they'd have one at the base of a major highway.
Also, you learn just how good your headlights are when the streetlights are out. I've learned that mine are absolute shit. The car's nearly 19 years old though, so it's not surprising.
Just a week or so before this all happened, the power grid had some maintenance (from what I can tell) in my hometown as there were power outages beforehand, it was odd seeing us having power and it being dark as soon as you left town everywhere else.
Also it looked like Seath the Scaleless had taken residence downtown.
Toronto here, we lost power for 48 hours, trees are everywhere and it's so damn cold.
