Georgia Senator Saxby Chambliss (R) says military sexual assaults aren't surprising with all those y

I meant some aggressive people are pushed to be in the military solely based on said aggressiveness, at least where I am. Not that all or anywhere near a majority of military personnel are aggressive.

because it's "explaining" rape as being some hormone problem bullshit and not because of the fact that rape is constantly being trivialized and de-legitimized. Also sex education loves skipping over consent because sex ed in many places in America is about not having sex ever (abstinence)
welcome to the military where we control when you sleep eat shit and kill
but rape
rape is something special
an example of the normalization of sexual violence against women is "slut-shaming".
I get what you're saying about the subtle misandry present in society, but slut-shaming isn't sexual violence, it's still inexcusable but it's not violent

He never said "rape is the result of raging hormones". He said that when you have a bunch of people who are super horny, there is a good possibility that these types of things will happen. Its a large contributing factor, not the only one.
Its a true statement. If everyone one who joined the military where castrated, I doubt there would be much of a rape problem.

do you realise how ridiculous and offense this statement is? you sound like a strawfeminist

People love taking things out of context. They claim that he's "trivializing" or "justifying" rape, but he really isn't
Seriously, he is quoted directly in the article: "...but guys, we're not doing our job. You're not doing yours, and we're not doing ours with the rates that we are seeing on sexual assaults. As I said to start with, you recognize it. We recognize it, and we got to figure this thing out because we simply can't tolerate it."

so do you take everything at face value, or what?
I bet if this had been published today, you'd be screaming bloody murder at the author
well violence is normalized in general as being masculine and powerful.
but yea violence against women is to a great degree normalized. particularly sexual violence. not just through media but through our culture as a whole. while it may or not be glorified, it is generally thought of as normal or acceptable to a certain degree.
an example of the normalization of sexual violence against women is "slut-shaming".
I have never heard of a sexual assault survivor being called a slut, and if it happened there would be an outrage.
Look in this sub section, there's a rapist who has been buried alive, does that sound like sexual assault is normalized? There are no TV shows, Magazines, Newspapers, radio shows that have a large reach in the media, that would dare defend a rapist. There is a reason rapists are the go to bad guy on cop shows.
Of course the mouth breathers do pop up on social media blaming victims and saying violence against women is OK. How many people read what they say and agree though? most just read it, realise they are more than likely trying to get a reaction and avoid the topic since it will lead nowhere but further trolling.
The ones that are serious are usually weeded out and avoided, then they just have the few others that agree with them replying to the crap they spew.
Leave it to the politicians to take a quote out of context and start a shit storm over it.

it normalizes the violence. it's not necessarily an act of violence in itself, but the ideas that are perpetuated through it make violence against women seem more acceptable.

dude cnn was defending rapists just a couple weeks ago wtf are you talking about?
I have never heard of a sexual assault survivor being called a slut, and if it happened there would be an outrage.
I've met someone who that happened to, and there was no outrage.
Oh god the Steubenville ordeal, I don't even understand how CNN approached that like they did.
There is still a overwhelming condemnation of sexual assault. I would hardly call one story a normalization of sexual violence against women.
Anyway thank you for pointing that out I genuinely had blocked out that CNN fiasco.

Everyone who heard them called a slut stayed quiet? Not one person took offense to it and corrected them? That is incredible, I hope the survivor managed to find people who could help and support him/her.
Just when I started to have faith in humanity again.
