Video game voice actors unionized with SAG-AFTRA considering strike action

All for this strike tbh. Power to em.
Things voice actors do not deserve: Anything they don't agree to in the contract they willingly enter into in return for the wage they agree to.
The fuck kind of logic is this? That's like saying people who work in sweatshops don't deserve better pay or conditions because they agreed to what they're getting.
The VAs have only agreed to those wages because there's been no other option for them, and then they end up having to do more than they signed up for anyway with no additional pay. And before you say something like "Then do what you agreed to and walk away", yeah sure, and then never get hired again because now you're known as 'the "lazy" VA'.
They both should, devs first imo, but still, sometimes its unrealistic. Demanding for them is just annoying, it can honestly be unrealistic and just not possible depending on the company and money situation. Even if its in a good money situation it might not be able to do royalties because it could fuck a lot of shit up.
Look at it this way, regardless of who deserves it first, it isn't going to happen for either group if one of them doesn't take a stand. If this strike is successful and leads to devs standing up themselves as well, then that's a good thing right?
Hire VAs outside unions. Pissy fit solved.
The only issue I have with this is they want it so you can use either only union VAs or non-union VAs. That seems like it would make it very hard for aspiring voice actors to get experience and for small to medium development studios to hire the right people for the job. I think as long as a job is union approved then unionised VAs should be able to work on it even with non-union VAs.

It wouldn't make it any harder, even aspiring VAs know to get an agent, and most agents get their talent to join a union anyway.

I wonder how long they'd stay there if suddenly union actors were not being hired.

I wonder how far the industry would plummet if suddenly voice acting quality returned to Resident Evil/House of the Dead standards.

Freedom planet.
But really, they'll do something, if not then text only is a possibility.

To be fair, it wouldn't be nearly as bad for most games. Only the most story driven ones would suffer.

I completely agree there, though it is usually the story driven ones that get the most attention among the traditionally non-gamer crowd. As much as we all like to bash the filthy casuals, they are a major contributor to the industry's income. Without those story driven AAA titles I'd imagine a significant drop in income.
I say that pay raises only occur if developers get pay raises as well; actors play an important role but the games wouldn't be happening if it weren't for developers.
At the end of the day, they dance together but developers can dance alone.

And by giving into one demand and joy the v other we risk this being like Hollywood, where SFX companies can still go under even with a hit

GBX and other companies like it have royalties because they own their own IPs and are privately held. You think activi$ion or any other similar company would have the same setup?

VAs and Devs are two separate entities. The devs need to fight for it themselves.
