Sorry, I forgot to look through the internet to see your ethnicity.

Your point being? Your argument has been defeated. Your attempts to save face are pathetic. Concede defeat and leave if you've got nothing meaningful to contribute to this discussion.

I take the fifth.

I'm not american but the rest of you are.
Yes. If we treat gays as equals we also have to treat paedophiles as equals because that's just a sexual orientation too.
You can probably tell my view on what should be done from my tone - there's no point in me stating it.
You are dumb and you should feel dumb.

Archangel is canadian dumbass. Your argument was totally worthless all thread long.
It'd be great if everyone were heterosexual but this isn't the case. Whatever that bullshit was in California about kindergarteners being taught about gay people was dumb. But this seems excessive.
Elecbullet, what the fuck man. I remember you arguing for gay rights a long time ago, referencing a whole load of studies that concluded that homosexuality was unchangable and perfectly healthy.
Now you're saying it'd be great if everyone were straight, that you're an atheist but you hate it and you wish you were a christian, and now you're leaning toward conservative values.
What even happened to cause these changes?
[editline]22nd April 2011[/editline]
Are you just extremely impressionable?
Why does this always turn to "You mean we have to commit MASS MURDER OF SOME FORM OR FASHION!"? No! That's not what I mean.
I mean if just for some natural miraculous reason, nobody had any real homosexual feelings, also meaning that there were no closet homosexuals, only open, true, heterosexuals.
This is like saying if the world would be a better place if there were no jews because the holocaust wouldn't have happened
Seems to me that the OP does nothing but post homosexual related news articles in FP.

Well, shit's changed for me. I was a crazy-ass liberal but that was just me rebelling against the fact that I, a child raised as an atheist, lived in the Deep South, in the southernmost, most Christian part of Alabama. I was a fool. I didn't really think about anything I said.
Not calling all liberals crazy, but I sure as hell was.
edit:
I retain some liberal ideas (legalize pot, legalize gay marriage) but overall am MUCH more conservative. The stereotypical liberal San Francisco lifestyle sounds awful to me. The stereotypical conservative lifestyle seems more in tune with what I'd really want.

I want to know what your "crazy" ideas were
[editline]22nd April 2011[/editline]
What exactly are your new conservative ideas?
I want to know what your "crazy" ideas were
Well I was a typical liberal but I ended up shoving my ideas in everyone's face. I never thought about things like abortion and gay rights, I never thought them through, I just assumed the opinion I'd heard was the liberal one (legalize abortion + gay marriage) and shoved it in everyone's face.
Note that this doesn't mean any opposition today to abortion and gay marriage rights. Today, I'm less supportive of abortion, however I believe the rights should still be there. Today I realize how it's much more negative a thing to have to go through pregnancy and abortion, and stress on the fact that it's best to prevent pregnancy in the first place, and that if an abortion must occur, an early-term one is best by far.
As far as gay marriage I still support it, and I still realize it's definitely not a choice to be gay, however I'm much more appreciative of the ideal American nuclear family (a mommy, a daddy, two kids, go to church every Sunday). I myself am heterosexual (hard to believe I know).
As far as religion, I still do not believe in God, believe strongly in evolution, will rate a young-earth Creationist dumb, but I still again envy the traditional families I see all around me in the suburb. I very much wish to have such a family one day, and wish I could actually believe Christian ideas because I feel I'd be happier that way.

I don't think anyone really likes the idea of abortion, but it's infinitely better than the alternative, which is trying to bring a child up when you can't possibly support it, giving it a shitty life. Also, it's fundamentally the woman's decision : it's her body, and up to a certain point in the foetus' development, her rights take priority over the unborn.
[editline]22nd April 2011[/editline]
And there is no reason at all that gay couples shouldn't be allowed the same legal benefits as heterosexual couples. None whatsoever.

I don't think they shouldn't! Give 'em full benefits
Also on abortion it's just generally the typical way things happened with my beliefs

I supported abortion rights blindly and spouted my beliefs, never thought seriously about it

Later I began to think about how the other side feels and my ideas became less liberalized

Now I think I understand.
The nuclear family can still exist without going to church every sunday. I understand your desire to have strong social bonds, and to feel part of a community, which is something that religion provides. I guess there's nothing wrong with turning up to church because you enjoy talking to people there, but if you don't believe in God, then you'd be lying to yourself in a way. There are other communities that exist that you can get the same kind of fulfilment from, things like clubs and societies.

The traditional family unit has shown no benefits in raising a kid over any other functional method of raising a kid.
And yes, deceiving yourself and lying to yourself DOES make you happier if you believe it, but it makes no sense as to why you want to be deceived.

It's funny because I arrived at my current conclusions about life in the same way.
I was a devout Catholic for the longer part of my life, and through arguing with people like Lankist on the internet, I was forced to consider other points of view.

You know, typical pro-life conservatives. They feel that the fetus's rights are important.

He was insanely persuasive, then again I guess that was his job.

What the fuck are you talking about
Haven't you seen pro-life people with signs like "Abortion is murder"?

Yes, but I don't believe they really care about fetus rights at all.
Yes, but I don't believe they really care about fetus rights at all.
Oh what then
Yes, but I don't believe they really care about fetus rights at all.
Nah, I'm pretty sure they do. That's what I was taught anyway, that abortion was killing.
Maybe it's just me, but I honestly don't believe the people making the laws give a crap about fetus rights. All the protesters no doubt do, but even then they should think beyond emotional reactions to the problem and actually think about what's going on when someone does or doesn't get an abortion.

Power, keeping things the same, going backwards, lack of progress, not in any of those terms though.

I can understand power but going backwards? Do you mean they want to reduce women's rights for the sake of reducing women's rights?
Look not everything the Republican Party does is a cover for some nefarious plot, jesus christ

they should probably fix their signs to show a fetus out of the womb, happy, living, sustainable.
they should probably fix their signs to show a fetus out of the womb, happy, living, sustainable.
Sustainability at that moment in time shouldn't matter, but sustainability in the future should. I.e. if the kid has anencephaly, meaning no brain, go ahead and abort it.
I don't know why people came up with the idea of non-sustainability as an excuse for abortion.
