Note of interest now: China blocks access to Wikileaks website as well as Wikileaks-related material. I'll be back in a few hours, please post any new articles or cable documents of interest. Use the links in the OP to help you follow this.
People and governments should know wikileaks is doing them a favor. If a certain country had some politician making stupid decisions or money fraud, the country can arrest him or her, which helps the country.
So true. What's the point? PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW THIS INFORMATION MANNNNNNNNNNNNN! Oh shut the fuck up no they don't.
The fact that the people running the most powerful country on earth are acting like children saying world leaders are dumb poo poo heads isn't concerning to you?
The fact that the people running the most powerful country on earth are acting like children saying world leaders are dumb poo poo heads isn't concerning to you?
No, because the world leaders in other countries are also doing this in private. We all hate eachother, this is just a guy pointing and telling us who to hate.
The fact that the people running the most powerful country on earth are acting like children saying world leaders are dumb poo poo heads isn't concerning to you?
Because obviously the U.S. is the only nations that has diplomats who don't think foreign diplomats are Jesus incarnate. [editline]30th November 2010[/editline]
Goooo Wikileaks. We, the public, have every right to know what our leaders are doing.
"Our leaders"
I'm a diplomatic crisis.
The fact that the people running the most powerful country on earth are acting like children saying world leaders are dumb poo poo heads isn't concerning to you?
Firstly its mostly diplomats and other people saying things quoted in the cables, secondly what these people say in private is entirely up to them. If they want to express concern (or report someone else's concern) they should be allowed to.
Why can't you see that this information is best not spread around the public? Think about it. You have a bunch of foreign diplomats trying to squeeze their best interests, your best interests, and the interests of their respective governments and what-not, everyone's trying to keep this shit secret and then this fucker runs ahead and release all kinds of documents that do nothing but destabilize the situation and make everyone look bad all over. One of the articles in the leak was that the Chinese were lying to the North Koreans about their interests being in common. You think the North Koreans aren't going to find out about that one soon enough, with these documents running all over the web? In all likelihood, what this means is that China is now a target for North Korea, and millions of more lives are at risk. [editline]30th November 2010[/editline] Read better.
You are severely overestimating North Korea.
I can understand the humble goal of seeking the truth behind military conflicts, but this is the wrong way. It is anything but a catalyst for new wars.

So much of this is really just Embassy gossip, to be honest.
Can somebody please tell me one good thing that leaking these docs could possible give to anybody? The only thing achieved here is leaking secrets that the USA didn't want anyone to know. We keep these things secret for a reason.
I can see encouraging transparency by releasing war crimes and such, but now this is just a smear campaign.
This is ridiculous. It seems that all Assange is aiming to do is damage the United States diplomatic relations and its reputation. Whether we have the "right to know" or not, leaking such information simply puts the well-being of a nation, its people and its relationships at risk.

In the last two or three days has anything damaging come out? No. (not yet anyway, I accept there could be something horribly damaging to the US / world peace / etc still to come) I have even heard on the news that this sort of thing goes on inside every single Government on the planet and as such it is not news to them. I guess NK might be a pissed that China has been getting into bed with SK and the US.

Even I'm gonna admit that some of the stuff released so far is only partially interesting, nothing to really make me go "OHHHHHHHHHHHH SHIIIIIIIIIIIT". I'll keep following the coverage and post updates, but even I'm not impressed with what's been released so far. I think the 75 year old guy riding a horse out of Iran across mountains was about the best thing so far.
china thing made me lose my shit

Just think of it like a high school. If you catch a friend gossiping about you, then it's not like you'll just cease contact with said friend, but you may be less prone to being as friendly in the future, and contact may become more or less awkward. True, nothing major may come from this; yet, smaller, less critical problems may arise. Such as, a country may be less prone to sharing information with the United States, or tensions may increase between other nations (Such as Iran and Israel). It just doesn't seem like the responsible thing to do.

Thanks for dumb rating by the way, your reasoning behind armed conflict being what exactly?
So people don't have the right to know what America really thinks of them? I think this concludes Day 3.... Hopefully something HUGE drops tomorrow. Something to at least talk about.
So people don't have the right to know what America really thinks of them?
No, because the information is possibly damaging to the United States' relations with other countries. And we don't need to know this stuff.
So people don't have the right to know what America really thinks of them?
Why should anyone give a crap that a peon diplomat thinks Angela Merkel has no creativity?
So people don't have the right to know what America really thinks of them? Thanks for dumb rating by the way, your reasoning behind armed conflict being what exactly?
Imagine if real life was like this lol
So all the other nations should give up their private diplomatic transcripts as well then.
That's only fair. It's not like anything would come as a surprise, given most of the planet can't stand America.
