This is so awesome. For the first time we have proof of what cliches always were just suggesting.
God, there's this great story about a wedding from the Moscow embassy. My favorite line is "Persian speaking mountain Jews" :v:. You guys should look it up.
Most of what has been released is stuff we already know, kind of makes me sad. :frown:

This is only the beginning. I have a feeling I'm gonna be very busy tomorrow updating this.
So far, I don't see anything too important... It's all shit that is public as it is... Concerns about this, Gossip about that Nothing new
Urr... The fact that the past two Secretaries of State have ordered diplomats to gain bank account details, computer passwords and biometrics from everyone important they meet is a big fucking deal. Embassies being corrupt is nothing new, but this is something else.
The material includes a reference to Vladimir Putin as an "alpha-dog"
Sounds accurate.
Currently released so far... 219 / 251,287 Faster damnit
Oh man. We're in for some turbulent months.
I lobe how upset people are about this one
The cables published today reveal how the US uses its embassies as part of a global espionage network, with diplomats tasked to obtain not just information from the people they meet, but personal details, such as frequent flyer numbers, credit card details and even DNA material.
Every nation has been doing this for years and years and years.
If people are expecting Hollywood style plots on this one. You're in for a disappointment.
I lobe how upset people are about this one Every nation has been doing this for years and years and years.
While it's not new, it's certainly uneasy to hear it's more than targeting individuals that could be dangerous, it's 'everyone moderately important you ever meet' "Every nation has been doing it for years, that makes it perfectly OK to do."
fuck wikileaks for continuing the use of the dumbass -gate suffix
[img_thumb]http://www.survivingtheworld.net/Lesson583.jpg[/img_thumb] "Cableslap" perhaps? Or maybe "Cablebreak"?
219/251,187 of cables released. This is only the beginning. I have a feeling I'm gonna be very busy tomorrow updating this.
Almost all the rest will be useless and boring information. "VISA APPLICATION #5534253 SECURITY CHECK FOLLOWUP"
i'm really getting tired of the pessimism
Almost all the rest will be useless and boring information. "VISA APPLICATION #5534253 SECURITY CHECK FOLLOWUP"
You say that now, and then tomorrow, something huge to someone might be leaked. We're only 1% into the leaked cables, seems way too unlikely that the rest will be useless filler.
You say that now, and then tomorrow, something huge to someone might be leaked. We're only 1% into the leaked cables, seems way too unlikely that the rest will be useless filler.
220/251,187 isnt 1%
220/251,187 isnt 1%
You're right, it's a lot less than that. The point still stands though.
By the way, I wanna be a spy for embassies - http://cablegate.wikileaks.org/cable/2010/02/10STATE16932.html "Embassy Beijing, please see paragraph 3." Paragraph 3: "Action Request: Request Embassy Beijing approach appropriate host government officials to deliver talking points/non-paper in paragraph 4 below and report response. " Talking points also may be provided as a non-paper.
"Action Request: Request Embassy Beijing approach appropriate host government officials to deliver talking points/non-paper in paragraph 4 below and report response. "
"Dave, please take my love note to Brenda on the second floor. If she doesn't seem interested, please break it to me gently."
I lobe how upset people are about this one Every nation has been doing this for years and years and years.
I think its one of those things which is all good and fine if you ignore it, but as soon as you about it its bad.
You say that now, and then tomorrow, something huge to someone might be leaked. We're only 1% into the leaked cables, seems way too unlikely that the rest will be useless filler.
I said almost everything.
I said almost everything.
It's why I said way too unlikely. You have to figure how many stories came out of just 200+ documents. Imagine what else there might be.
I said it'd be nothing major, just shit we had already guessed. Its nothing new. Ever seen From Paris With Love? Basically, you've got that going on. Embassy workers doing some rudimentary spying. Its nothing fucking major. Its not evil, cataclysmic shit. Its just gathering information.
