Well valve just has to make it for cheaper than occulus and they win
my peeve: people that don't know much about the headsets supporting one more than another while of course knowing nothing about the final products and who can't even spell the company name right
I don't think so because facebook's got 36 billion dollars and valve + htc only have about 5 billion all together. My bets are on around 800-850$ for vive. Comparable to rift + touch and a little extra.
valve is a private company, they dont need to disclose how much $$$ they have. they are also the ones who take a cut off of any major PC game release in the past 10 years almost.

Valve just have a constant revenue stream, allowing them to basically move mountains. I guess a way to look at it is that Valve partnered with HTC who have been making stuff for a good while now, while Oculus is brand new to the hardware scene etc. The fact they are changing their focus towards VR means they will prob have an affordable alternative to the Rift.
SO, I've never understood this about the vive... Does it need an open space to work? Like, a 5x5 meter space? Or is that only for the controllers? I just want to use it like a standard VR headset like the Oculus.

Even after being bought by Facebook, Occulus still had issues getting enough orders for someone to do the manufacturing. Manufacturing of specialized screens is going to cost a lot of $$ unless you're fabbing more than a few million of them.

Fuck it, I'll get both
Source?
http://fortune.com/2016/01/05/htc-introduces-vive-pre/ Sorry, I may have misread or misinterpreted a Reddit comment or something. It seems they'll be showcasing new content (some of which from Valve) but not necessarily a new Valve installment.
Valve is already an expert on that.
Valve usually takes advantage of peoples' wallets by getting you to buy tons of things with seemingly low prices, not one thing with a big price except for some TF2 items
Watch as people that get a Vive get a VR head accessory for their characters in TF2.
