is everything sexist or racist now? fucks sake, fuck off.
She could just get one of these... The hairmet!
You know what would mess up your hair more than a helmet? Concrete to the skull.
Yeah, blood's usually tricky to get out of hair. Doesn't help with the bits of skin and possible bone too.
guys can have long hair too i don't really think i've ever seen a guy complain about protecting their head though
Top 3 Countries with most bikes per capita: Netherlands, Denmark, Germany Helmet laws in aforementioned countries: None
And what does this prove exactly? A helmet reduces the chance of a head or brain injury by 63 to 88 percent. Cycling is so popular in those countries, and so much safer, because a variety of other reasons, none of which relate to helmet use.
That's like saying seat belt laws deter women from driving because breasts.
You're oblivious to the struggle because of your male privilege.
That's like saying seat belt laws deter women from driving because breasts. [editline]28th May 2014[/editline] Also, holy fuck, this kind of pettiness of "I won't wear a helmet because my hair!!!" is typically reserved for comedy and exaggerative satire. And here we are, where it's an actual case, and she believes it's legitimate enough to protest.
For the record, I found this on a subreddit called r/nottheonion, "for true stories that are so mind-blowingly ridiculous, that you could have sworn it was an Onion story."
If some dumbass wants to go and not wear the proper safety equipment, it's not my problem. TBH I believe the same thing about seatbelts, and I guarentee I'd wear them anyway.
Seatbelts help prevent car crash victims from further injuring other victims or unrelated passerby with windshield shards and body projectiles. And on a lesser (but still fairly notable) level, both helmets and seatbelts lower psychological damage for people who have to go past an accident site before the cleanup crew is finished with it. My father is a long-time trucker; and the number one reason he's looking forward to retirement in not the grueling hours, potentially hazardous work conditions, or inability to see his family for more than a few days per month, but just that he doesn't think he can bear seeing all the horribly inventive ways a human body can be spread across pavement anymore.
Maybe the helmet is too tight and she lost a few brain cells
Pretty sure you have to have something first before you can lose it.
guys can have long hair too
Take Kelly McGarry for example. This guy, [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/32814946/77.jpg[/t] Wears a full face helmet, [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/32814946/DSC_0871.JPG[/t] Does this, [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/32814946/large_A70W0947_mcgarry.jpg[/t] And still look fabulous afterwards.
Helmets for city riding are not as important, they're not mandatory over here either.
Yeah, because all that smooth, hard asphalt sure is bouncy and soft for you to land your head on.
Is everything sexist nowadays?
To be fair, when the law for mandatory helmet wearing when riding was introduced, bike accidents increased due to less people riding and cars not caring as much of cyclists since there were less.
To be fair, when the law for mandatory helmet wearing when riding was introduced, bike accidents increased due to less people riding and cars not caring as much of cyclists since there were less.
That's not an appropriate use of "to be fair." Your leading clause should always run into a phrase that pertains more directly to the subject. If you were agreeing with the insane lady, you could use that leading clause. On-topic, maybe helmets should be optional. It'd weed out the morons who didn't want to wear them. We wouldn't even be having this conversation.
I always wear a helmet while riding no matter what. This is because when I was younger, I saw a chipped and broken helmet that belonged to a 75 year old man that fell down a cliff and survived only because of his helmet.
She'll be in a life of regret if she falls off a bike, gets brain damage and all of that could of easily been prevented if she just wore a helmet
She'll be in a life of regret if she falls off a bike, gets brain damage and all of that could of easily been prevented if she just wore a helmet
We should just put all these people that don't want to wear seat belts and helmets in the U.S. where healthcare is expensive and shit, and then replace them with all of us responsible people in their countries of origin. Flawless plan.
Honey, with that hair, the helmet would doing you a favor!
BTW, the Swedes has solved her problems long ago. http://www.hovding.com/
So a Helmet law, which applies to both genders, is sexist just because you've got a Wookie on your head? Fuck off you loon.
the helmet law is fucking ridiculous when you consider the fact that the city of melbourne has implemented rentable bikes all around the cbd to encourage people to ride, but it's illegal to use them without lugging a helmet around with you the entire day, which no-one is gonna do.
"I firmly believe more people would ride bikes if helmets were optional" Say that to the concussion, bitch.
"I firmly believe that...that...why does everything smell like burnt toast?"
the helmet law is fucking ridiculous when you consider the fact that the city of melbourne has implemented rentable bikes all around the cbd to encourage people to ride, but it's illegal to use them without lugging a helmet around with you the entire day, which no-one is gonna do.
Don't those bikes come with helmets? I've seen some of them do.
There are no helmet laws in Florida and almost every time I saw a bad accident on I4 or 19 it was some motorcyclist without a helmet. One I wish I didn't have a front seat view on.
how is this sexist because some idiot can not abide to a law that is meant to protect you over a bad hair do?
BTW, the Swedes has solved her problems long ago. http://www.hovding.com/
That's actually a really neat thing... I mean, it looks ridiculous when deployed, but it seems really practical for the people who can't lug a helmet around everywhere, especially on college campuses. Doesn't look bad when it's not deployed either, and it seems like it'd fit pretty well in a backpack. How much are these things again? EDIT: Oh. Expensive. Well, nuts to that, then. I'll just stick to my old matte black whatever.
Wearing a helmet or not should be up to the individual. Claiming it is sexist is outright stupid, but the principal still stands.
Is her hair casting dark magic in that photo or did they edit it for some reason? Anyhow she's clearly a total fucking nutcase but the biggest problem of all is how common their mindset is. It's seriously freaky how many cyclists are totally unconcerned about the safety of themselves and everyone around them. If I had a dime for every time I'd seen a cyclist heinously violate road laws I'd be loaded enough to create an ad campaign personally asking them all to fuck off
It appears they put a flash behind her to give it that look.
Helmets don't help that much, you're much more prone to injuring your legs or hands when cycling I'd say. Still doesn't mean helmets are completely useless though, protects twigs and bugs from getting stuck in your hair which is a bonus I guess.
