Yeah, but they lost the last ones. :smug:
They are going through it properly, with permission from the Libyan government.

Doesn't lessen any risk to it tbh. They could decide that its all ok that they come in and collect people and then suddenly change their mind.
I mean we are talking about Gaddafi...
WOOOOOOOOOOAH holy shit I left to school and came back and the death count has TRIPLED.
Found some media straight from the protesters in Libya (In Arabic):

All hail Britannia, motherfuckers.
That's what I was wondering.
The crew may have abandoned it if they didn't like killing civilians.

Tanks in an urban enviroment have always sucked against mass footsoldiers/people
It's practically suicide even when backed up

They wouldn't be in any actual danger unless the protesters had AT weapons (and I think that was a T-62 outfitted with Drozd anyways.) It's an indicator of low morale.

Molotovs, simple, easy weapons to make.
Molotovs, simple, easy weapons to make.
It is however extremely difficult to destroy a tank with one.
It is however extremely difficult to destroy a tank with one.
It is possible though, depending on where you throw it, aswell as different, more explosive alternatives being able to be made.
Also Libyan tanks arent exactly modern, with their tanks being T72s, T62s, etc
That Tank is useless unless someone knows how to use it...

It turns the metal lump into an oven.
It turns the metal lump into an oven.
I'm not so sure that applies anymore. To a WW2 tank, sure.
But for example, the M1 Abrams engine is hotter than the Molotov's flame.

Because the M1 abrams engine is a fucking jet engine.

You don't need to destroy a tank, just knock it out or disable it. MBTs aren't wunderwaffe and people with even primitive AT weapons can make short work of even the most modern tanks at close range. When the crews are buttoned up tanks are visually handicapped to a very high degree.
It is in the western worlds best interests for the lunatic to stay in power, he is in our pockets along with his oil supply whether the populice likes it or not. The americans/brits will want Gaddafi to win this war just not publicly as it will tarnish their own reputations. We need to keep an open mind on this one because what is being said by downing street and the white house may not be what is happening especially seems oil is involved in a big way.

Although personally I want Gaddafi gone .....
Negative. Gaddafi is not remotely an ally of the West, and it is in theirs, the Libyan people's and practically everyone else's best interests to have him gone. There's no reason for the West to back Gaddafi to preserve oil supplies - Gadaffi's already anti-Western, and there's no reason an anti-Gaddafi revolution would produce an anti-West regime; ergo, oil's safe. Even if it wasn't, there's more reason for the West to hang oil (there are other suppliers) and still call for Gaddafi's removal anyway, given his gross destabilizing influence.

Any decent tank crews should be able to avoid most threats, but since this is Libya they're probably not as well trained. That said it would be very difficult to actually get near a German/American/Russian tank, they've been trained to deal with such situations. And it's still not easy to knock a tank out with a molotov. Explain to me how you would do so.
I'll be sure to stay out of Libya for the next couple of forever.

You toss it over the engine to make it overheat.
This doesn't work on a lot of modern tanks though because as I said, many of them have engines that burn hotter than the molotov's flame.

Lotsa molotovs, also jamming metal pipes in the tracks and getting close enough that the crews cannot engage you lest they button out and get blasted off. Hungarians did it in 1956 and it can be surely done today. As for the performance of foreign tank crews and their ability to coordinate with infantry in an urban environment, that's a topic for another day.

If the molotov can set the engine on fire, that's a mobility kill. (An AT weapon hit during Thunder Run leaked fuel on the hot engine of one M1A1 and a fire happened) Overheating doesn't matter.

This debate could go far deeper than this, but you're right, this is not the thread.

Isn't it times like this some IED's are actually a good idea? Kill the oppressors liberate the people.

That's how you're supposed to handle protests, not shooting your own damn people.
