It's not even a matter of opinion. Saying Modern Warfare 2 was better than Team Fortress 2 is like saying ET did storytelling better than Half Life.
ET did do storytelling better than Half Life.
I'm not complaining about the product he's making specifically, but rather the standard he's setting. That's more important.
He's setting a standard that results in some superfluous entertainment products being slightly different from how you would like them. You can describe it however you want but at the end of the day it's a pretty petty issue.
ET did do storytelling better than Half Life.
Why so troll?
It's not even a matter of opinion. Saying Modern Warfare 2 was better than Team Fortress 2 is like saying ET did storytelling better than Half Life.
Actually that is opinion seeing how MW2 and TF2 offer different types of gameplay.
the fuck? you said i lost my credibility, but you're acting like TF2 > MW2 is a fact. [editline]29th December 2010[/editline] pretty sure you're trolling
If that's your opinion, that's cool, it's just that the entire world of critics disagrees with you and they're more reputable than Tetracycline, an obsessive user of an internet forum. [editline]29th December 2010[/editline] You're using the same grammar and sentence structure as Thisispain, by the way. You're probably his alt.

They're sure to be as integral to telling stories (in time) as books or movies. People would complain if someone who makes popular (but arguably shitty) movies caused the average price of films to go up by ~$20.
Why so troll?
I'm not trolling, you're being silly. You're comparing a brilliant cinematic classic to Half-Life, which was only notable in that it attempted to have a story at all, which was uncommon in games at the time. Just because we set the storytelling bar incredibly low in videogames, to the point where people jizz their pants if a game's writing approaches competence, doesn't mean they have good stories.
-snip-
Half Life did, and still doesn't have an amazing story, however it is the way it delivers it that makes it above a bunch of games

It was notorious for having literally no story or gameplay.
How can you label video games superfluous? They're sure to be as integral to telling stories (in time) as books or movies.
Could be, but they aren't now.
People would complain if someone who makes popular (but arguably shitty) movies caused the average price of films to go up by ~$20.
That hasn't happened. I remember paying $60 for The Sims when it came out. It's not a new thing. If a game is really huge, the publisher would be stupid not to tweak the price to maximize profits. It's what they do. If you don't want to pay an extra $10 for a computer game you don't need, then don't. If you can't afford it but you want the game, do what us poor people do and wait for the price to come down. It's not a big deal.

Am I not allowed to complain at the guy making the games cost more? As for your first point, there's games that had colossal budgets which didn't cost outrageous amounts of money like CoD and friends. They made plenty of profit. (GTA:IV, etc)
As for your first point, there's games that had colossal budgets which didn't cost outrageous amounts of money like CoD and friends. (GTA:IV, etc)
I'm almost sure most new console games are 60 dollars, and have been for years.
I'm almost sure most new console games are 60 dollars, and have been for years.
I'm talking about PC games. That standard is leaking into them because of Kotick's pricing (they see he can get away with it, so other developers think they can, too.)
I'm talking about PC games. That standard is leaking into them because of Kotick's pricing (they see he can get away with it, so other developers think they can, too.)
I'm pretty sure new PC games have been in the 50 dollars range for a long time too.
I'm pretty sure new PC games have been in the 50 dollars range for a long time too.
No they haven't.
No they haven't.
yeah they have, new releases have been 49.99 for some time now
No they haven't.
I bought CoD4 brand new for 50 dollars back in 07, same with Oblivion in 06 I believe(not sure about this one) Maybe Cod4 is a bad example, but people often cite that as "the last good CoD"
PC games have been 50$ new for a long long time now. Nothing new. Now when they go 60$, that's something new
Two games being $50 on release doesn't constitute most games being $50 on release. [editline]29th December 2010[/editline] (not to mention that's release price, not constant price. MW2 and Just Cause 2 and etc still have outrageous prices.)
At the risk of sounding like a fanboy (which I am) I would say Half Life and successors have an incredibly imaginative story.
The HL1 plot is basically a collection of generic sci-fi tropes: -Science has gone too far, disaster! -Alien invasion! -Government coverup! -Mysterious figure pulling the strings! HL2 mixes it up a little: -Alien invasion! -Dystopian future! -Noble savages! -Mysterious figure pulling the strings! Now, it also has some actual characters, which help the player feel more invested, but their story ultimately exists only to give the player an excuse to shoot lots of aliens. The story of Half-Life 2 doesn't have something to say about the human condition, or society, or anything else that literature likes to focus on. It's just a pretext for combat. Which isn't to say HL2 was bad, because it was great. But remember what a huge deal it was that there was a female sidekick who wasn't depicted as a sex object? That's how low the storytelling bar is in this medium.
What? Your argument just seems to be, "If you don't want to pay more for games, just don't pay more for games." Why? Especially since Kotick hasn't even done anything wrong this time. The gist of what I'm saying is wait until you get older, then you'll have some REAL problems. [editline]30th December 2010[/editline]
Two games being $50 on release doesn't constitute most games being $50 on release.
Most games ARE $50 on release.
(not to mention that's release price, not constant price. MW2 is $60, which is $10 over the usual price. That doesn't seem outrageous to me.
Are you Thisispain's alt or do you really want attention, too? I see you doing the same sorts of things he does: disagreeing with people as often as you can, often on things everyone else agrees on.
everyone agrees on
black ops and mw2 are 3rd and 4th top played games on steam
apparently not
"It has tropes" isn't a reason to say it's bad. Can you name any story without its share of cliches/tropes?
Tropes are fine when used with discretion. When they constitute the entirety of a plot that's not fine.
It's pretty immature of you to pull the age card in the middle of an argument, by the way. [editline]29th December 2010[/editline]
Tropes are fine when used with discretion. When they constitute the entirety of a plot that's not fine.
Right here is where I would take a movie you've said to be excellent and point out every trope in it, but I don't know what movies you think are excellent. I'll suffice to say you're wrong.
"It has tropes" isn't a reason to say it's bad. Can you name any story without its share of cliches/tropes?
Tales of Galactopticon.
It's pretty immature of you to pull the age card in the middle of an argument, by the way.
It's pretty immature for you to hate someone for charging $60 instead of $50 for a luxury product that shattered sales records.
It's pretty immature of you to pull the age card in the middle of an argument, by the way.
says the person who uses "alt of thisispain" as a method for ignoring arguments you're a joke just have to point that out
