• Cisco: Online advertisements are more dangerous than porn

It's just that online advertisements displayed on porn websites are typically more dangerous and risky than online advertisements displayed on casual websites.
I don't mind online ads too much but when they're the kind that plays sound that you can't stop then damn them to hell
Just a fyi for you paranoid who think that malicious adds get on regular sites all the time.: adblock on chrome doesn't prevent the add from being downloaded, it just modifies the displayed data. On chrome, adblock protects you from nothing.
ABP and NoScript. Never leave home without it.
I don't use NoScript. It's never been a problem and almost certainly never will be.
Do you have problems reading ? An ad does not need to be a flash or java applet to install malware, some of the more nasty ones don't even need your permission by making use of browser exploits, these can appear on any website without warning, so no it is not worth the risk in order for some idiot who can't come up with a better solution to make $0.05. Add a fucking donate button, sell a product or service, hell make it free so people can enjoy it without being forced to look at adverts for shit they don't need. Adverts on the internet are no longer a decent way to make money with so many people blocking them so unless you adapt it's your own fault so don't cry about lost revenue.
Perhaps I poorly worded that. I still can't agree with your attitude, and I still doubt that security is your primary reason for using ad blockers. Adapt adapt adapt, get a donate button, you're an idiot if you can't find a better solution. Why all the contempt for website operators? Breaking news: Cracked.com goes donations-only! Breaking news: Cracked.com goes through the fucking floor.
I still doubt that security is your primary reason for using ad blockers.
And you'd be right. I really don't care to see advertisements in any shape or form. If that makes me an ass hole then so be it, as long as I have my ad free browsing experience I'm happy. I used to run my own website, well I still do to some degree and I've never used ads, unlike some people I take pride in an advert free website, even if that means I'm running it at a loss.
I never block google ads (the text based ones) because they don't get in my way but other ads are just fucking annoying [editline]2nd February 2013[/editline]
ABP and NoScript. Never leave home without it.
noscript is horrible
Perhaps I poorly worded that. I still can't agree with your attitude, and I still doubt that security is your primary reason for using ad blockers.
I avoid using adblockers on Android because I know I probably won't get a virus from using the web on Android.
I think you're just being paranoid.
Will you ever stop shitposting?
Well interesting, I do not see any ads anymore for the sole reason that I run noscript and to know that this was going around the net makes me happy that I have noscript. Really I haven't had a problem from ads ever before, though once through downloading java.
I don't think that "They should have adapted" justifies nuking even the most unobtrusive ads for your own benefit but ok
Why does it need justification? It's a choice made by a consumer. If you cannot sustain yourself financially because you aren't using a profitable business model, it's your problem to deal with. To say otherwise is to literally say that it is the customers who are at fault when something isn't profitable. That's bullshit. If you want to use that logic, I have a bag of rocks to sell you. Shut up and pay me for it. According to this logic, it's your fault you don't want my product.
I used to pass on using adblockers or noscript, because I just saw ads as a slight inconvenience at most. Then a website I had been visiting for years, and knew was legitimate and trustworthy, accidentally wound up running ads from dudes who used them to get trojans and ransomware onto your computer. You didn't have to download or click anything, you didn't even have to see any of the "infected" ads on your screen, it just loaded somewhere on the page and you were automatically buggered. That website took weeks to figure out which ads were doing that and pull them, because it's hard to root out a specific culprit if control is wrested from you the moment it materializes anywhere. Fuck that shit. Fuck that shit to death.
Thank you, Adblock.
Must be why it's been nearly a year since MSE has not reported a single virus at all for me.
I have never picked up a single virus going to mainsteam (pornhub, xhamster, redtube, etc) porn sites with adblock enabled. I'm picked up multiple virus from following the first few google results. I agree with Cisco here.
Must be why it's been nearly a year since MSE has not reported a single virus at all for me.
Or maybe that you're using MSE is why you haven't found a virus, since it doesn't pick them all up, at all.
Yea just use ghostery
Doesn't ghostery just block tracking cookies?
Doesn't ghostery just block tracking cookies?
It blocks scripts not cookies (it pretty much also makes sure that they can't place them)

Your shit philosophy could also grab you free shows at the theatre, free haircuts, free car washes, if only you weren't as confident that you could legally get away with those without paying the price.
Not exactly. If I just hand out rocks without forcing you to pay, it's not your problem to deal with my revenue. I can't justifiably throw a shitfit that people aren't paying me for my bags of rocks if I just blindly hand them out to anyone who requests them. That's what websites do. Most sites blindly serve page requests to anyone and anything asking for them. Your examples are flawed. Those require you to pay an upfront cost to even access the content/service. The services aren't blindly given out. Once that content is provided, the source is mostly powerless to stop you from modifying it. It's not the customers responsibility to leave a webpage untouched. If you give it to them without strings attached, and they modify some of it, it's your problem to deal with if that isn't financially profitable for you.
