Whenever I plug my iPhone in on a Windows PC it comes up as a USB Mass storage device and I can browse the contents of Pictures and such (Limited but it's still there). You can get iPhones up to 32GB which the largest Micro SD you can get at the moment is 32GB with them only recently creating a 64GB micro sd. I don't know what you mean by proper multitasking, but I find the multitasking in iOS4 just fine.
The same can be said for rooting an android phone. It's not necessary but to get the maximum potential out of you phone you have to do it.
I don't get how anyone with an IQ above 60 could think this is alright. Everything about them is designed to suck the most possible money out of you while giving you the lowest possible satisfaction. They design all of their products to go out of date as soon as possible, just to suck more money out of people. Sure, this is great for making money, but those of you that can actually think, why do you actually want to buy their shit products? Everything they do has been done better (if not prettier), and their morals are somewhere on the level of a serial rapist.
It's ironic that many people (linux users) have exactly this view on Microsoft for years.
Apple has managed to beat Microsoft in consumerist douche-off, but Microsoft has been like this for over a decade.

Now, the iPhone does not do that out of the box, it requires dicking around to get it to work as any kind of mass storage device, even then what the hell is the point seeing as you have no real user accesible file system on it.
