It's a stupid term that stupid feminists use in stupid, fallacy filled arguments about how holding doors for them is oppressing the entire female gender.
Doesn't it just mean a male figure is running the show? It's not like radical feminists invented the word or anything.
"patriarchy" is the kulak of the 21st century
a magical force that causes all of society's ills, and questioning this assumption just makes you part of the conspiracy
the same with "X privilege"
"people give DBS shit all the time but he's really a good guy and i'm glad he's my friend" -no one
since men and women differ on a fundamental biological level we should never see complete equality in everything, no matter how much you "level the playing field". it's a mathematical inevitability. as the environmental component of variation approaches zero, the genetic component approaches 1.
then you set the playing field so that there is complete equality, it doesn't matter if it is level or not as long as equality exists
gender isn't a social construct
I will be the first to talk shit about the patriarchy believers, but gender is largely a social construct. Yes, gender is influenced by your sex, but in modern society nurture plays a larger role in deciding gender. Of course this goes both ways, completely ignoring the effect sex has on gender is nearly as stupid. Better to just understand that humans are pretty flexible beings in some ways and not so much in others, and that are always exceptions to pretty much any rule you can think of.
Is there's a Godwin's Law equivalent for Patriarchy?
If not I wish to claim it for myself, Riut's Law.
Yes...
I'm sure some are doing it to get laid easily ...
As long as the price eventually goes down for the dudes, okay.
Can we not let this devolve into your typical internet 'feminism vs men's rights activism' 'debate'.
The same things are said every time, as if two people with mouths but not ears were yelling at each other.
I'm only displaying both sides as equal for the sake of not prolonging this tripe, so please don't get on my case for that.
nobody is changing the definitions. patriarchy is a system within society that views men as more powerful than women. gender roles, pay inequality, blatant misogyny, etc., are all examples of patriarchy. patriarchy doesn't just oppress women. if you have ever been called a wimp or a pussy for not living up to the male standard of behavior or beauty, if you have ever lost custody of your children because your ex-wife is automatically considered a better child caretaker simply because she is a woman, if you have ever had to pay more for car insurance because you are a man and automatically considered more reckless or impulsive based on that, then you are a male victim of patriarchy.
but anyways, like other people have pointed out, this story isn't really an example of sexism. i just wanted to explain that most men and women are victims of patriarchal gender roles in their lives.
Source on the pay inequality thing?
Doesn't it just mean a male figure is running the show? It's not like radical feminists invented the word or anything.
I didn't say they invented it. I'm saying they throw it around more than a baseball on the field. That and "misogynist", which means "A hatred towards women in general", is also thrown around alot, usually in the wrong context and with the wrong meaning.
Doesn't it just mean a male figure is running the show? It's not like radical feminists invented the word or anything.
It means the world is more or less "male-centric". Actually, more specifically than that, it's masculine-centric. That's why it hurts men too, not all men can or want to fit the classic "masculine" mold
If you didnt have the money for insulin, would you steal it to survive?

there are more differences within sexes than between sexes.
