Yeah ok only you are not allowed to play it in schools like at all. I've heard several cases of schools banning students from playing the national anthem here. And back when I was in high-school it was banned completely, even in the hallways etc because it was so offensive.
Yes...it's very common practice. Whenever it has been banned it's been in violation of the education plan. It's usually exaggerated well-intent which has been met with extreme amounts of backlash every time that it's happened, so I don't understand from where you get the idea that you would be percieved as a "huge anti islam racist bigot". That's wrong and, to me, sort of implies that the bans fault is that of offended minorities, as opposed to dumb principals who believe that the song is somehow permanent property of ultra-far-right-extremists from which students need to be shielded.
I'm surprised we didn't get any texas revolution jokes.
If someone told me that my country's flag offends them while they are in my country, I would honestly flat-out tell them to get the fuck out of my country then.
but everyone loves canada's flag
Wouldn't an American flag become a symbol of a lack of freedom when a landlord is forced to let a tenant hang one up? This isn't a cut-and-dry case of flag = freedom, in this situation the freedoms of multiple people are butting up against each other. Personally I'm of the belief that if you're renting out a place to live you should be required to give up a little bit of freedom and tolerate people personalizing their living spaces in non-destructive ways, but let's not kid ourselves and think that more flags = more freedoms.
Russian flag with the CSA cross and stars over it with the USA stars and stripes on the left and for good measure add in the English cross. [editline]20th June 2014[/editline] And taking lessons from Africa, add an AK somewhere in the corner.
And Islamic crescent. And a pig. Someone should make that happen, I want to see something like this.

[editline]20th June 2014[/editline] If it was so racist, how come people still use it in sports events?
The England flag has different connotations though. It's either seen as being a) incredibly chavvy or b) possibly related to neo-nazism thanks to the daft twats belonging to groups such as the EDL who deck themselves out in it. I have never heard of people having issues with the Union Jack/Flag, and in fact I'm fairly sure the Union Jack is the only flag you can fly from a permanent flag pole without planning permission.
You forgot the crusades and the fight to free the holy land of the Muslims That inflicts hatred from a long time ago. Your right though The EDL have not helped at all

What's in the lease|code for the apartment complex. How large the flag itself is. The truth is, if you go into a lease, there's often a number of things which the owner of the property can state about the property. What is allowed and what isn't. It's not an absolute right, but within normal grounds.

If it was the man's own house where he was the landlord himself, then I don't see why he shouldn't be allowed to fly the flag. But given that this is about an apartment which he does not own, he should have to respect the landlord's reasonable requests. This might apply more to Australia than the US because we are not so blindly nationalist here, but let's face it; if you obnoxiously fly your country's flag you're either elderly, racist, or really shallow.

If you're a person who has a massive flag pole with a Southern flag, yeah maybe. But having a flag out a window? Not so.
Yes they dislike the EDL who by the way have disbanded when their leader went ' moderate' You would be tricking yourself if you said the mainstream media didn't victimize Muslims. Remember the 'terrorists infiltrating schools' Bullshit, or the 'subway has converted to sharia law and sells halal'. Subway execs made a conscious decision to serve halal to reach a larger audience. Over and over you see sensationalised anti Muslim articles fueling a growing fear.
But why do they do that? If the media is attempting to demonize Muslims, what is the end goal?
(if you can call aftonbladet news, that is)
well there's your problem
we get the same in England with this flag
Those racist bastards.
I love it when people move to another country and are offended by that countries traditions so they then try to destroy those traditions to make room for their own.
Sweden has the same problem. Raising the Swedish flag is apparently racist.
I hear this all the time from people in Sweden, yet I have never seen someone actually raising a Swedish flag, or been called a racist because of it. It's bullshit
Ive heard thousands of complaints about Muslims finding miscellaneous flags and banners "racist", funny enough tho ive never actually heard it from a Muslim
Ive heard thousands of complaints about Muslims finding miscellaneous flags and banners "racist", funny enough tho ive never actually heard it from a Muslim
it's almost like it's a load of bull woah
I hear this all the time from people in Sweden, yet I have never seen someone actually raising a Swedish flag, or been called a racist because of it. It's bullshit
My only experience of something like this is from when I was in middle school, and my class teacher sent one of my friends to the principals office for wearing a t-shirt with nothing else but the Swedish flag on it, due to it "being racist, and expressing nationalistic opinions", had more to do with said teacher being kind of stupid than anything else, though.
Sweden has the same problem. Raising the Swedish flag is apparently racist.
the fact that there's a diminishing line between what people think is racism and what is actually just harmless nationalism having pride in your nationality should be a good thing.
having pride in your nationality should be a good thing.
That's debatable. Mindless patriotism/nationalism breeds complacency, and in other cases will be used as an excuse to be exclusionary or xenophobic. Nationalism and Patriotism should manifest themselves more in the realm of actually trying to make your country a good country, not just saying that it is and then waving a flag for no reason.
To be fair though that flag represents England as opposed to the United Kingdom. It excludes Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland. Besides, it's the flag that our ancestors used during the crusades, y'know, when our ancestors committed mass genocide on a fuckton of people.
Is the Saudi flag offensive because it represents the Muslim conquests of the late 1st millennium? People always mention the Crusades as if they had any relevance to shit in the modern age. Nobody gives a fuck about wars a thousand years ago. Anyone who says they do is either strategically lying or delusional.
