no its not
It's pretty fucking close, if it's the government telling the children the parents may be terrorist that is.
It's pretty fucking close, if it's the government telling the children the parents may be terrorist that is.
They were talking to the parents, not the children; telling them to keep an eye on their kids. Still shitty but not teaching children to rat on their parents like in 1984
To be fair, a lot of the replies to this thread seem to completely ignore the "may" part of the title. It's quite true that questioning Government or the media is a characteristic of many extremists. Obviously it's also a very common characteristic among a lot of more or less normal people, and I'd say the leaflet seems to be aware of that. You could definitely question how useful the leaflet is, though, as the points are super vague and describe a shit ton of people who are probably not extremists, but that's pretty much any "10 signs your teenager is..." ever. I find it rather silly that people are upset by this. If you think this is propaganda from the Government, trying to label anyone who speaks against the Government as extremists, you're pretty silly.
Normally I'm one for playing devil's advocate, but this absolutely is straight up propaganda fearmongering.
On the right side, all of the bullets except the last and maybe the first are actually concerning
The three before the last really aren't that awful (except the conspiracy theory thing), and the others can be quite interpret-able.
The three before the last really aren't that awful (except the conspiracy theory thing), and the others can be quite interpret-able.
Conspiracy theories might be the minority but its not that unusual. Sometimes they're right (NSA surveillance, private companies/unelected people having overbearing influence on political systems). Better to be critical and make the occasional mistake than to be right but only on the merit that you blindly accepted whatever was told to you. [sp]was that a strawman? What I mean is I'd rather be wrong about a conspiracy theory than not question at all[/sp]

"Government warns against bad-mouthing said government" Hardly a neutral/un-biased thing of them to say isn't it :v:
Almost all of that is normal teenage behaviour.
I think the UK government calls that thought crime now.
Almost all of that is normal teenage behaviour.
This is some ridiculous shit, the left part is exactly what puberty is, and the right side is literally: If you're not with us you're against us. 'Owning mobile phones or devices you haven't given them.' My first mobilephone/smartphone was paid by myself because my parent always tell me, if you want something work for it. the second and third one are understandable and the only ones that make sense. The Fourth one i'm just not sure what to say about, as its not my daily hobby to go find shit about terrorism. The last two are just straight up: you're with us or against us, no opinions or self thinking allowed.
Conspiracy theories might be the minority but its not that unusual. I was thinking more along the lines of "FLOURIDE GIVING OUR CHILDREN AUTISM CHEMTRAILS ROSWELL1!!"
I hate how we bundle all conspiracy theories in the same pile, when many have hard evidence but nobody wants to talk about it
Showing mistrust against mainstream media is a sign of extremism? Wow..
Eh, that's actually true. I was thinking more along the lines of "FLOURIDE GIVING OUR CHILDREN AUTISM CHEMTRAILS ROSWELL1!!"
I hardly believe that writing horrible shitposts on /x/ or watching retarded infowars tier misinformation can lead to terrorism. Not that I'd want my child to take part in any of this.
On the right side, all of the bullets except the last and maybe the first are actually concerning
except when you think about how much of that pamphlet are just the same old dog-whistle words they've completely worn out over the last couple days you realize how empty it is. "sympathy" as defined by David Cameron apparently includes wanting to bomb Syrian supply lines instead of cities, e.g. knowing more about about military strategy in the Middle East than he does "extreme" coming from the same place as the above mentioned David Cameron is entirely subjective, and personally i've seen it used to describe anything from pro-refugee sentiments to letting transgendered people into bathrooms, both things commonly supported by younger people "mainstream media" includes such fine publications as the Daily Mail and The Sun, and it's hardly a conspiracy to think they have a clear agenda they're almost always pushing even "glorifying violence," which i'll agree is concerning, would probably not be phrased as such if it were, you know, in support of parliament's decision on Syria. now i'm not saying you have to be doing that to support military action, but you gotta admit a nationalist spin is easy to make. the kind of thing the aforementioned Daily Mail might do, for example. so in conclusion: fuck.

Are UK conservatives borderline fascists?
Are UK conservatives borderline fascists?
It's rapidly becoming that way.
Eh, that's actually true. I was thinking more along the lines of "FLOURIDE GIVING OUR CHILDREN AUTISM CHEMTRAILS ROSWELL1!!"
well fluoride in large quantities does cause brain damage, and I drink well water so I'm not even going there.
I hate how we bundle all conspiracy theories in the same pile, when many have hard evidence but nobody wants to talk about it
How is that a conspiracy theory then?
The US has put out flyers like this before, I think one of them said paying with cash = terrorist
I am sometimes dumbfounded on how much closer we get to this: It's blatant at this point. (Whoops, I'm an extremist.)
Getting pretty fucking tired of the government constantly coming up with bullshit like this under the banner of "Anti-extremism" or "Increased Security"

Better add every teenager to a watchlist than...

It may be true that people who criticize the government or media could be terrorists, but that's exactly like saying people who put gasoline in their cars may be terrorists. Using gasoline to fuel vehicles is also characteristic of many extremists.
I hate how we bundle all conspiracy theories in the same pile, when many have hard evidence but nobody wants to talk about it
ikr, it really rustles my tinfoil Most people think MKUltra is groundless Illuminati crap
That's some 1984/V for Vendetta type shit right there
might as well change the name of the isles to airstrip one, get it over with already [editline]4th December 2015[/editline]
Eh, that's actually true. I was thinking more along the lines of "FLOURIDE GIVING OUR CHILDREN AUTISM CHEMTRAILS ROSWELL1!!"
there are theories that governments have fostered these kind of people and ideas so that whenever anyone says "conspiracy theory" they are lumped in and discredited summarily even if they have all sorts of evidence and reasoning [editline]4th December 2015[/editline]
How is that a conspiracy theory then?
see, it has worked so well, even the very mention of conspiracy theory is equated to untrue drivel despite there being many conspiracy theories that have been proven to be true
tumblr is actually an islamic state radicalisation tool and we never realised
[editline]4th December 2015[/editline] see, it has worked so well, even the very mention of conspiracy theory is equated to untrue drivel despite there being many conspiracy theories that have been proven to be true
Then it is not a conspiracy theory but the truth. Show me an example of something generally believed to be a conspiracy theory but is in fact true (with proof) then we'll talk.
Just so we're clear I'm not sure she's involved in this, probably is, but we can't be sure.
You shouldn't be making those kind of extremist statements.
