I fail to see why everyone is getting their panties in a bunch over this. Yes, children will buy it. Yes, it is very greedy of Activision. But if you don't like it, don't buy it. I mean, it's not like this is some kind of required thing for the next Call of Duty. I think it's kind of stupid that people are condemning the entire series because of the company that makes it or the fact that it has optional paid features for one of their games.
Shit, I hate when people doesn't know the difference between the Publisher and the Developer. Even worse when they suddenly start talking like they would know everything about it.
Just because EA isn't making the patch doesn't mean they shouldn't assure a quality product update is being published on their website for their own product. As a publisher, they're responsible in the end. A publisher of a book needs to make sure they're releasing a quality product of a 2nd or 3rd edition before it hits the public. This isn't any different for video games.
I preordered MW3. Get the fuck over it.
I feel that Elite is really just a way of milking more money of a community, by adding "new" features that many games have for free.

When they first announced COD:Elite, everyone instantly assumed the subscription fee was for all of the features, but it clearly isn't.
The damned vidya games takin' my money.

That type of shit is what I would expect out of an f2p game like Combat Arms. Activision needs to take a lesson from their partner Blizzard, and make a subscription model that actually rewards players for paying it, like free content every so often. But they wont, and even subscribers will have to pay for map packs.
subscribers get map packs without paying additional money
subscribers get free map packs
Free*
Free*
oh wait.....
subscribers get map packs without paying additional money

The problem with the current gaming market is that they have no dignity or self control whatsoever. They see they want something, and they'll pay for it with little foresight or understanding of how supporting a system like this will affect the future of gaming. It's a slippery slope. Ever since Modern Warfare they've been stripping down the game as much as possible and stripping once standard features already functional on the same game engine since 2005 and either dropping them completely or reselling them. You can't be mad at Activision though. They're a company with a profit model just like everyone else, and if they can make more for less then they almost certainly will. They don't have respect for their userbase because they don't need to. These choices aren't possible without a consumer foundation supporting them, and that's the reason it's gotten this out of hand, and for what? A cookie cutter campaign plot with animated .gif sprite explosions everywhere that's a borderline railshooter with subpar visuals? Arcade style multiplayer corridor shooting rebranded and reskinned every year? This is what people are willing to take it up the ass for in spite of all the other choices, hell, even the clones that do the same thing without the consumer buttfucking? I'm not fit for this planet anymore. If this takes off then I'll be truly surprised. Activision must be laughing their asses off. They fire off nearly all the Infinity Ward staff while retaining the rights to the name of the company that made the franchise what it is, rebrand the game on the same engine with the same assets, and it'll sell most on Xbox 360 where they'll be paying for P2P online via Xbox Live Gold Membership AS WELL as Call of Duty Elite, just paying a tax on a fucking brand name and they'll LIKE it. I just don't get it. Edit: I hate people who rate posts with dumb or disagree and then never reply.
you obviously haven't heard the massive uproar against this most people aren't going to buy it and most that are will be 13
I preordered MW3. Get the fuck over it.
whoa, what a rebel
So you have to pay for shit that is free in every other fucking action game? Greddy cunts.
Activision: Removes feature from the game, sells it off as extra content for $15. Push out a lot of these. Makes the stat tracking system cost money. New game every year looking exactly the same as the last game. EA: Adds new features to the game, keep them in the game for free. Adds a pre-order map pack, but boycotting it made EA decide to make the maps free. They also use a stat tracking system, except it is free. Major improvements from BF2 to BF3. Remember kids, Activision will do half the work for double the price. Buy MW3 now, we need your money!

The lack of progress in CoD is because of each game's development starting a year before the game preceding it is released.
Can't wait for COD fanboys to start accusing Steam off ripping of COD Elite despite being around since 2003.
Does the payment include proper clan support and some kind of community site for free clan websites, if so, then i could understand it. But just for the clan and nothing else it sounds kinda bad.
whoa, what a rebel
woah what a douche Seriously if you really have a problem with me purchasing a game and enjoying it then you need to get the fuck out. AKA the 5 people that rated me dumb. Sorry but when did your opinion matter in my eyes?

Sorry but when did your opinion matter in my eyes?
That's how the vocal minority works man, CoD is the most popular FPS on the market so you aren't supposed to like it. It was the same thing with Halo before CoD4 came out. I just ignore them, waste of time and energy to put stock into people who think you are wrong for enjoying a video game.
Remember people. Call of Duty invented clans. Call of Duty invented friends lists. Call of Duty invented Vietnam. Call of Duty invented shootan.
I'm not a CoD player, but when this was announced, I thought it was cool that Activision was finally getting on board with a stat tracking system and such, but seriously, subscribing to create clans? Like seriously, people invest so much energy into telling people they don't like a videogame, why can't they atleast spend 30 seconds to do a little research? Half the replies in this thread are just wrong.
It's sad, but my twelve-year-old cousin actually said "wait, the Vietnam war is a real thing?" after playing CoD Black Cops.
I learned of the existance of the Vietnam war while playing battlefield Vietnam ( Altough With feedback from my older cousin ) when I was about 10 years old. Politicians may dismiss it, but You can actually learn history from videogames.
Why can't you have a good time with your brother with Modern warfare 1? Or any of the games preceding it that play just like MW3 will play? They should add pay2rank, and pay2play every full hour you play as well.
Remember people. Call of Duty invented clans. Call of Duty invented friends lists. Call of Duty invented Vietnam. Call of Duty invented shootan. Call of Duty invented everything.
Whoever says Call of Duty invented clans seriously, I will strangle and kill with a crowbar.
They should add pay2rank, and pay2play every full hour you play as well.
You should be like your namesake and stop talking, that is a really dumb idea.
The problem isn't the gameplay, it's how EA feels like they need to support the whole entire game. Going after CoD. Going after Activision's pricing model. Going after Steam.
How people sitting high in corporations can be this blind to history I don't know. Atleast it gives me hope to land a decent-paying job in the future
You should be like your namesake and stop talking, that is a really dumb idea.
You do realize that my post was mocking them and it was a joke and not actually serious? Right?
It wasn't a very funny joke. Also you missed zing for box.
How people sitting high in corporations can be this blind to history I don't know. Atleast it gives me hope to land a decent-paying job in the future
Yeah, they're very disconnected to the whole entire thing in the end.
That's a smart plan actually, people who are blind fanboys will pay for all of this and normal people will move over to Battlefield series.
