I've only played Generals and its expansion. So I'm not really a die hard C&C veteran like you guys. I guess I wouldn't be as disappointed as all of you if I got C&C4. Well looks like I'm gonna be trying out Red Alert 3 this weekend.
Well there is a demo of RA3. Idk about 4. Generals to me didn't even feel like CnC, not that it was a bad game but it just felt like a modern war RTS.

It was supposed to be an attempt at showing modern warfare and terrorism. Though the generals games did have a very successful mod fanbase.

Still no First Decade :frown:
I really like Command and Conquer 3. Red Alert 3 was pretty good too, imo. Not even going to bother getting Command and Conquer 4 though.
I saw this pop up in Steam and got excited, then clicked it and realised the same thing I realised last time C&C was on sale: Steam doesn't have the good ones. Still it was great fun and despite it's graphics, is still highly playable now days.
Still no First Decade :frown:
Seriously, why isn't this on Steam yet?
Still no First Decade :frown:
Just buy it on disc. I got it for like a fiver a year or so ago.
Aside from the fact that they are WAY old, I guess the fact that you can get them for free from the EA site is why C&C Gold, Red Alert 1 and Tiberium Sun aren't part of this promotion or even on Steam. Can't really speak for RA2, Renegade and the like though.
I remember playing the original Red Alert on the PS1. I was bloody horrible, but still played Skirmish mode all the time. I was lucky to beat one enemy team, but I still had great fun. Now, I wish to get one of the newer games, but can't decide between RA3 and CnC3.
How do I buy and download The First Decade? http://www.ea.com/uk/game/command-and-conquer-first-decade I don't see an option anywhere on the page.
Generals was the shit.

It's pretty much the last true CNC game.
Get Command and Conquer 3. It's pretty much the last true CNC game.
Why's that? Why aren't the other ones 'true CnC games'?
RA3 pretty much made the series go full retard and then C&C4 made it get hit by a car and go into a coma.
RA3 pretty much made the series go full retard and then C&C4 made it get hit by a car and go into a coma.
So the future games fucked up the story? I don't really care that much about the story, so that doesn't matter to me.
Mechanics wise, they ruined the flow of the game for me. It just doesn't feel right any more. In RA3 there's now ore deposits instead of ore fields and instead of making a refinery anywhere you want, you have to place it directly on the ore deposit now. Eliminates any strategy you could've had with your harvesters. The units no longer have the charm they had before, now they all pretty much look the same, making battles rather hard to manage. There's the art style and atmosphere that was butchered as well, RA2 was silly... sure. But RA3 attempts to amplify the silliness to retarded levels and now the game is pretty much a parody of itself. I could probably go on and on but I haven't played RA3 since it was released so my memory is a bit hazy. And C&C4, well, lets not talk about it. Seriously, get C&C3 instead. It plays much more similarly to Tiberian Sun minus the fact that I still can't play it without feeling like I'm playing a Generals mod but it is really the best of the new games.

shame all old gold C&C games are not on steam i'd buy them
shame all old gold C&C games are not on steam i'd buy them
Same, but C&C TD/Gold, RA1, and TS are free on the ea site, c&c one I mean. Don't really care, although it was fun to either nuke their conyard or their power plant(last building), or shrink their MCV and crush it with your own. Or send the weakest unit that can damage buildings and destroy their last building.
Getting Red Alert 3. I'll end up getting Tiberium Wars some other time. Anyways, does RA3 still have somewhat active multiplayer? A couple of my friends have it but they haven't played it in ages most likely.
Seems like I'm the only person who liked the original CnC's and the new ones (besides 4, goddamn, that's an awful game)

So you guys would recommend C&C3? Been thinking of getting it with the expansion (I love map conquest modes).
[sp]the ending to C&C4 sucked so fucking much, the portal looked like it was drawn on the wall and the acting was terrible except for kane, everything was so plain in the movies, fucking ea should have done a better job[/sp]

RA3 was only good for Tim curry and the music (To an extant)
