How so? In the 1970's, Richard Nixon signed an agreement to open free trade ports between China and United States of America. Not an alliance.
For one, friend ships aren't signed on papers. While, yes, we are not formally allied with them, we're best friends. We're economically dependent on each other. That means a shit load more than just being signed allies. Both countries will never war with each other for fear of economic collapse. I think a lot of you just don't understand economic ties. If you are as closely tied to a country as we are, you should understand that war is impossible at that point. The US, nor China, would ever risk any sort of war, or action that might piss off the other too much. That's friendship.
I think it'd be a lot less controversial if they had it just yellow... But that's just me. Isn't yellow China's main color anyway?

I don't see what the fuss is about. The Empire State Building changes the colors of its lights all the time. At most all it would take would be to flip a few switches or something. Considering that it's a sign of friendship towards the nation with the most rapidly growing economy in the world, there's nothing wrong with it.

Still, I wonder why this is happening, although not communist as a display but a celebration of communsim in a democratic country?
What.

Ok so we were best friends with the USSR in the cold war too. :downs:
Ok so we were best friends with the USSR in the cold war too. :downs:
No. You're the one with downs here. We're we economically reliant on them? Fuck no. Are we economically dependent on China? Fuck yes.
The difference in these two scenarios is during the cold war, we were activley encouraging different types of combat, war, and military expenditures on both sides and we HAD NO ECONOMIC TIES TO THE USSR AT ALL.
Yeah, the Chinese are the only reason North Korea still exists. They aided them in the Korean war and killed U.S. soldiers. Then we were enemies with them for about forty years. Now they're our best friends.
We were never at war with Eurasia. Oceania was always at war with Eastasia. We have always been friends with Eurasia.
Acknowledge that other countries exist?
Those bastards.

The world's richest self made business woman is from china.
I wonder if this has anything to do with the U.S. wanting China to put economic sanctions on Iran over the nuclear situation.
One of America's most reconized symbols taken over by Commies.
What's next?

Eh, I wouldn't put the tag of friendship on it, but you're pretty much correct.
When stuff does happen to get us pissed off at eachother, like the spy plane incident, we don't really do anything. If anything serious happened, i'm sure we'd settle it through diplomatic channels.
Those god damn communists.
RichardNixon, get the HUAC back up again! We're goin' huntin'!
Communism is a temporary setback, on the road to freedom.

That doesn't make us friends! WE HAD ECONOMIC TIES TO THE USSR DURING THE COLD WAR TOO.
A friendship is where we agree(whether written or not) to help each other during crisis. USA and UK are friends, USA and Japan are friends, China and USA are not friends, just economic partners.
Are we TRYING to provoke people?
Since when haven't USA provoked people?

:downs: If only you had ever taken history... Did we have flat out open trade with them? No. Up until the late 1980's, our only economic tie of any form was the fact we were constantly trying to out do them in military groups. That's not an economic tie.
Ass-Licking much?

Indirect economic ties, which are just as important(if not more so) than direct ones.
Indirect economic ties, which are just as important(if not more so) than direct ones.
Not nearly as important. Perhaps you don't understand the gigantic ties we have to them...? If the USSR had collapsed earlier than it did, the US would have faired fairly well. If China collapses now, we collapse with them. We might have been indirectly tied to the USSR in some form, but we are currently directly dependent on China. That's more important.
WAIT
CHINA LIGHTS = CHINA
CHINA = COMMUNISM
COMMUNISM = BAD
O NOW IT SUPPORTS COMMUNISM OF COURSE
it all adds up, right? no one stopped to think maybe we're just happy for china?

I think people are more upset that it is a repressive regime we are celebrating.
Anyone who thinks ill of this is an idiot.
I don't need to explain my reasoning to idiots, so I'll just leave it at that.

You can't explain your reasoning, because there is none.
