Implying back then we didn't worship the sun, the moon and the animals and forces around us. See Neolithic religions.
Implying monkeys can worship anything. See Paleolithic religions.
I don't see how religion can hinder scientific progress.
Evolution is a lie, stem cell research is blasphemy, condoms don't stop STDs, however prayer does.
I don't see how religion can hinder scientific progress.
There are some idiots who try and hold it back as in "WE ARNT MOVIN TILL JESUS SAYS SO". Otherwise regular people don't hold it back, coming from a theist perspective.
I don't see how religion can hinder scientific progress.
stem cell ban, and church being against the heliocentric theory are the two that I can name off the top of my head
In before someone says the world will have no morals

imagine if humans never had morals now imagine that world
Well, you called it.
I don't see how religion can hinder scientific progress.
Then your world must be populated solely by rainbows, buttercups and bambi like deer.
So now what happens when we die?
So now what happens when we die?
Spiritualism =/= organised religion.
I don't see how religion can hinder scientific progress.
CERN is being hindered by religion because of the dubbing 'God-Particle' on the anti-matter they are trying to create.
this wont change anything. People only used religion as a front for their violent and irrational nature. after religion is gone, They'll come up with some other "Glorious cause" to justify their hate for one another
this wont change anything. People only used religion as a front for their violent and irrational nature. after religion is gone, They'll come up with some other "Glorious cause" to justify their hate for one another
Science
Science
Sounds unlikely but I think itd be a bit interesting to see people kill eachother based on differences in opinion of scientific theories
Religion will never go extinct, sorry kids, there's always going to be beliefs that something created something.
I also don't understand what everyone is happy about, you forgetting about Islamic nations (1.5 Billion people) they will never stop being Islamic due to things like the Kaaba in Mecca and tight knit religious traditions. And their common hate for the West.
Hey, maybe once religion is gone we can look at religious texts from a secular, historical and allegorical viewpoint. Because while a lot of it is pretty untrue or biased, there are some excellent bits of history in the Kings and Chronicles, and stuff that is glossed over butimportant in other ones. That'll be nice.

There will always be a Ying to a Yang, every outcome has an opposite effect, laws of nature, good and bad just like Greenpeace trying to stop oil refining to save the world. [editline]23rd March 2011[/editline] There will always be religion because somewhere, someone will need something to believe in other than Science.

Who the fuck cares if a small group of people will still believe in fairies? How the fuck does that matter?

Meanwhile I'm going to be a cyborg. On the moon.

Assume religion is extinct in the whole of the Western Nations in the world (the MEDCs) we have the money, ability, science and technology to prove otherwise we can just point out that religion is fiction, it doesn't exist, how do you think the LEDCs are going to react? countries like Afghanistan, Iraq who thrive due to religion, who attack our countries for their 72 virgins, because we don't believe in their God were just going to continue doing what we've being doing for the last 20, years. Wasting billions of dollars blowing sand up while they strap explosives to their underpants and attempt to blow up/hijack airplanes. In my opinion the only way the human race is going to evolve, adapt, grow and become a smarter as species if some global incident occurs where in which the whole race has to work together to overcome the problem to survive or we master space travel and ride pony's to the moon. [/rant]
Your failing
Uh huh that's gonna be interesting
to see the bigger picture... especially when 80% of the earth is religious, 25% are Islamic, it is also the fastest growing religion on earth (1.57 Billion) If current trends continue, Islam will become the most popular world religion sometime in the mid-21st century.
Ya cause all those people who will move on and go "well... I don't believe in God, we don't need religion anymore" will suddenly go "ALLAH AKBAR" for some reason.
Assume religion is extinct in the whole of the Western Nations in the world (the MEDCs) we have the money, ability, science and technology to prove otherwise we can just point out that religion is fiction, it doesn't exist,
How the fuck religion is fiction? Churches are real, I've been to few. If you mean that they are going to say that God doesn't exist, then you can't prove it. You can just say "we don't believe in God"
how do you think the LEDCs are going to react?
Same way that they react to everyone believing in other gods than theirs right now?
countries like Afghanistan, Iraq who thrive due to religion, who attack our countries for their 72 virgins, because we don't believe in their God were just going to continue doing what we've being doing for the last 20, years. Wasting billions of dollars blowing sand up while they strap explosives to their underpants and attempt to blow up/hijack airplanes.
And? Religion in those countries is stronger and is going to take more time to extinct. Your point?
In my opinion the only way the human race is going to evolve, adapt, grow and become a smarter as species if some global incident occurs where in which the whole race has to work together to overcome the problem to survive or we master space travel and ride pony's to the moon. [/rant]
Never going to happen. We are not ants. Many people would turn against each other. This would never work. We have been evolving for a shitload of time now. Both mentally and physically. Some places can be behind but it doesn't mean they are unable to evolve. However it often happens in nature that the faster evolving branch eradicate their less evolved cousins. That would be a war in human terms.
countries like Afghanistan, Iraq who thrive due to religion, who attack our countries for their 72 virgins
uhhh, lol? I am afraid most of the middle east is a steaming shit pile compared to most of the western world. TBH the sooner we move away from our dependence on oil the sooner we can just let them rot in their own archaic beliefs and mess. We really haven't done ourselves any favors by repeatedly trying to forcibly stabilize things in that area of the world probably just to help guarantee our oil supply.
what is wrong with simpleton atheism? can not the young boffin choose to not believe in any god? [editline]22nd March 2011[/editline] atheism isn't some sort of secret intellectual club [editline]22nd March 2011[/editline] and to believe so makes you worse than a lot of religious people.
the hell kind of post is this. it's like you tried to write in some sort of philisophical manner and just ended up shitting in my eyes. no you're right atheism isn't some sort of intellectual secret club. But this doesn't mean you can't have morons running around saying "HUYRGHGH GOD IS DEAD"

I bet 90% of you guys will become religious when you get old.
I bet 90% of you guys will become religious when you get old.
DOUBLE PROOF REDACTED
The idea that religion will never die because Islamic people exist, is retarded. 100 years ago nobody would have been able to predict large amounts of people giving up Christianity and becoming atheists, to say that it's impossible for the people of Islam or any other religion to go through the same process is just ignorant. Our most common religions haven't always been tolerant and open-minded, they evolved that way. They're being forced to adapt to the rest of the world.
I bet 90% of you guys will become religious when you get old.
Because we'll get smarter or more stupid?
Because we'll get smarter or more stupid?
He's implying we'll be afraid of death.
