I believe that 1+1 = 3, and don't force your views on me.
Because anyone who believes in god is mentally retarded, right? You're a real winner, aren't you?
Mentally retarded is an overstatement. But I believe they have a "metal condition"
Mentally retarded is an overstatement. But I believe they have a "metal condition"
lol
I believe that 1+1 = 3, and don't force your views on me.
It is the free will to choose or reject the logical as well as the illogical that makes mankind human.
It is the free will to choose or reject the logical as well as the illogical that makes mankind human.
This sounds pretty but it means absolutely nothing.
This sounds pretty but it means absolutely nothing.
Take it up with Dostoevsky.
The one being ignorant and backwards minded here is you.
Oh here we go, Pot calling the Kettle black ladies and gentlemen.
The modern church does not use the image of "a magic man in the clouds" and if you actually tried to read about Christianity and other religions, you'd know that their stance is and always was that you are lowering not you own, but the suffering of your ancestors and friends and people in general, be it in hell or on earth.
Well when they say "God" who do you think they're talking about?, the other magic invisible man that is the judge of your life?, oh wait, that would be heretical if there was more than one, so that must mean it is that magic invisible man, and that last sentence is unreadable and makes no sense, fitting.
You are using the argument of "the dead don't talk" against religion, yet you refuse the other side: it doesn't work for atheists either. Thus it's redundant.
If my "dead don't talk argument" (which was a point in my argument, not the argument itself) is redundant why are you trying to argue the legitimacy of the other side, if it's redundant?.
I have yet to meet a religous man or woman who says that religion knows all the answer. In the end all they are saying is that religion is their way of searching the answer.
Therefor Implying that Religion has all the answers, way to contradict yourself.
I'd also like to point out that I'm an atheist. I don't see why you're assuming I'm a christian. I just find it that religion is fairly defended in a thread that is predominately bashing. Though, members like you give me hope.
Well my mistake then, it's quite hard sometimes for me to pick out weather someone is playing the devil's advocate or not, my bad, and thank you for the complement.
And if you look in this thread, you will see bible thumping christians in an argument with angsty teen atheists. Seriously though, am I the only one who doesn't worry to much about whats after death. The way I see it, whatever will happen is gonna happen, and arguments wont change it.
Mentally retarded is an overstatement. But I believe they have a "metal condition"
That settles it, they need more iron in their diet. [editline]22nd March 2011[/editline]
This sounds pretty but it means absolutely nothing.
Means a lot actually, to say otherwise means you feel it right to force people to think how you do
God will still be in my heart, atleast.
Religion may become extinct in nine nations, study says
Yes, there is a benevolent god. Oh wait.
religion is neither good nor bad. it has caused wars and killed innocent people and it also brought with it lovingness to people and charity. it depends on how you look at it if this is good or bad
religion is neither good nor bad. it has caused wars and killed innocent people and it also brought with it lovingness to people and charity. it depends on how you look at it if this is good or bad
well then that kind of means it has done good and bad. and the good part is debatable because there are other reasons why people do nice things and religion is not the catalyst for nice things. BAD THINGS HOWEVER ARE A DIFFERENT STORY, HEATHEN.
oh cool a religious debate :munch:
Salvation Army doesn't exist, true story.
They should have also asked how many of them believe in Crystal healing. People will always attach mystical bullshit to things, all that can be done is educate people in regards to the blatantly obvious bs and push for acceptance of others.
Salvation Army doesn't exist, true story.
Crusades and the Inquisition weren't Bad, God said so.
Means a lot actually, to say otherwise means you feel it right to force people to think how you do
Choosing the illogical equates to being wrong, most sane people wouldn't willingly choose the illogical. If you took it a step less literal, it boils down to "it's a good thing that we have free will." It's a rather vapid quotation.

I mean, if there is an after life, then that's kinda neat. If there isn't, then I won't notice a damned thing different. But knowing that religion does make up a good portion of human history I don't think we should forget it completely, probably stop teaching it and let people who believe in it be equal to people who don't.
I as an atheist embrace to thought of the psychological disorder known as religion becoming extinct.
You disgrace atheists.
Is religion brainwashing since birth, by your parents and other sources? Or should i jump up on the ignorant train and gtfo?
-snip-
religion is neither good nor bad. it has caused wars and killed innocent people and it also brought with it lovingness to people and charity. it depends on how you look at it if this is good or bad
No doubt religion has been the motivation for lots of good deeds, but you don't need religion for people to be philanthropic, or as some moral guide. I think the dangers and hindrances of fundamentalist religion outweigh the good deeds done by those who hold milder beliefs.
Is religion brainwashing since birth?
Partially, it's one part tool for people to use as and blanket excuse, for their actions, and for why everything is the way it is, and one part brainwashing people to except that excuse. it's multirole :pseudo:

Yes the argument isn't going to change what will happen to you after death but we're discussing here what people do in their life not death. Things like discriminating certain groups of people because a guy in a funny robe said so. Or teaching your children that evolution is a lie.
This. And just because people will stop believing in gods, it doesn't mean that we're going to erase religion from history books, what is wrong with you?
Who said I don't believe in a God? :colbert:
The billions of people who died and will die not believing in God and those who believed in other gods will suffer for eternity. I don't think that's neat. Asshole. You'll go to hell for this.

You'll go to hell for this.
Cant go to a place that doesn't exist!. Edit: oh and this is funny, now correct me if I'm wrong, before you enter heaven you must be judged for your "sins." now no matter what you did you can ask Jesus to forgive you and since Jesus forgives everyone you get absolved of your sins and can enter Heaven. so essentially what this means is there's no point in any of this and all I have to do is ask a yes man for forgiveness and I'll get to go to a place of eternal happiness regardless of what I did?. Wow that sets one Hell of a precedent, heh Hell.
