Because unlike long time europeans they are not passive people and feel that they have to take part in this conflict because the outcome and their values matter to them.

I think it's more of a muscle flexing than proxy war between anyone. Iran can hardly lead any proxy wars with the US, let alone in Syria.

Also, business competition. Weapon deals, loads of money in the long run.

Well I guess it all depends on what is really considered a proxy war. Iran is definitely going all in though with Assad. Supplying and helping him in every imaginable way except actual combat troops

Not on the same scale as Russia or US does support their "favorites" respectively. It certainly participates, that's correct, yeah.

Are you saying Iran supports less than them or more? I can't tell from your wording. Iran is definitely the largest contributor out of all 3. At least from what we can discern, unsure what else is hidden well behind the scenes.
