Want proof? Go read the autobiography of Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Guy was mad into spanking.
"Who would believe this childish discipline, received at eight-years old, from the hands of a woman of 30, should influence my propensities, my desires, my passions, for the rest of my life, and that in quite a contrary sense from what might naturally have been expected?"
Not as sexy when you find out they're a professional D&D player
Okay, now I really have to get this book.
And move to Sydney.

O voe is me who had to find out what bondage is when i was so little, just as that time i found out what scat is by trying to find more scatman songs...
Remaining the straight man here. Childhood tying games, scenes in movies the depict bondage or really any sort of stuff like that. At the most extreme, some form of trauma involving being tied down.

I thought trauma would make the victim less willing to go through the experience again?
it's an acquired taste
I don't think you're using that phrase correctly. At least, I hope you aren't.
Guys complaining about a poorly written erotic novel is like a chick complaining about bad porn actors
But I complain about both.
Shit, what am I?
All I want is a nice girlfriend who I could listen to indie music with, have breakfast in bed with, walk around the park on chilly October evenings with and who would beat my bare slave ass until it bled and I tearfully cried out for mommy.

Who could ask for anything more in a relationship?
I thought trauma would make the victim less willing to go through the experience again?
It has cases of working both ways. It just depends on the subject, mostly. Sort of like Stockolm Syndrome.
Fuck these books.
They 'sexually enlighten' women by telling them they can be exploitative. Have fun in the bedroom AND USE IT AS A WEAPON TO MANIPULATE THEIR HUSBANDS/BOYFRIENDS IN TO BUYING THEM SHIT.
My gf and I do this shit because it's fun. Before it was cool. Now it feels like they've gone and trivialized, commercialised, and misconstrued my sexytimes
Never been much into this thing.
But a little spank here and there is fun :v:

or you could not be so gullible and stop caring about what people think
it's you and your girlfriends special time. you gonna let a novel 'ruin' that for you?

think of it as an impetus to ramp up the sexiness
MORE EXTREME
(or sextreme)

Not really, but when the topic comes up in conversation, it's just awful. Like anything you like that has been (trivialized, commercialised, and misconstrued by recent misguided popularity). I.e. The basis of most internet rants.
The thing just makes people more ignorant than anything, it provides misconceptions. It's annoying, that's all. I'm not suffering any serious heartache or butthurt over the whole thing... just something else to cringe about in conversations, overheard or otherwise.
I DON'T LIKE WHERE IT'S DRIVING SOCIAL NORMS, OKAY? Novelising taboo in the cheapest and most misguided way possible.
Funny thing is that from what I read in the book, it's not the most extreme of bondage(breathplay, cbt, vacbeds, flogging, insertions/syringes). It's sort of the clean version of BDSM, commercialized for the general public(almost like vampires and twilight).
A good thing is that it maybe brings forth the notion of different types of sex, and people start experimenting more and being more open. I'm not getting my hopes up though.
More women asking to be taught to be submissive really can't be good for womens rights.
More women asking to be taught to be submissive really can't be good for womens rights.
I thought womens rights was to let women do what they want?
I thought womens rights was to let women do what they want?
Yeah but it's kind of enforcing the gender roles, which is a problem that could end up effecting others.
Yeah but it's kind of enforcing the gender roles, which is a problem that could end up effecting others.
It's not enforcing anything if the participants don't want to.
If you'd delve a bit into the BDSM circle and read about, you'd see that you can choose what you want when you want. If you want to be submissive one day and dominate another day, it's ok. Everything is in controlled circumstances.
It's not like it's going to be anything else than a subculture in the future anyway, since this "hype" will probably blow over by itself.
Tell me that the first time you come home and find that your girlfriend's tied herself to your bed.
I would first ask how the fuck did she tie herself to my bed and that is she a magician?
More women asking to be taught to be submissive really can't be good for womens rights.
Sado-masochism is generally a two-way thing
Yeah but it's kind of enforcing the gender roles, which is a problem that could end up effecting others.
Pfft.
My girlfriend is a Feminist, and I tie her up. Sexy fantasy funtime isn't enforcing gender roles or politics or anything. It's private, naughty fun, that's all. It's totally consensual; in fact it shows a deep trust between both partners.
It's fun BECAUSE it's taboo. If it was the normal way to treat woman/men/your partner, there'd be no kink. That thrill and excitement we both get wouldn't be there.
feminists enjoying this sort of thing isn't rare at all
one of my dear friends is a feminist yet she's into some brutal shit
