I can understand why someone would be turned off from Android in the Gingerbread/Honeycomb days, but 4.0+ is beautiful. Most of the complaints people had about it has since been fixed.
What version did you have? I had an android phone running 2.4.3 and that was laggy and unstable but with 4.1+ they've considerably fixed the shit out of it.
I had kitkat running.
Right, and 2014 is the year of the Linux desktop.
The reason why Android has the largest market share is because it's free and is installed on every damn crapphone out there.
WinPhone is the newest OS, and AFAIK it's been growing quite fast this year (although it's all because of that cheap Lumia).
Right; Android is Free and Open Source, that's why it's successful. Microsoft can't claw back marketshare from Android without selling cheaper than Android flagship devices, devices that should now be able to run Android 4.4 if Google have done their work correctly.
That leaves nobody but Nokia (RIP) to pick paying Microsoft to use Windows Phone over taking Android and then paying the patent licensing fees to Microsoft because god knows they can't pass up an opportunity to not play nice.

It's a shame that Android is ruled by Samsung at the top, and random Chinese companies in the low-end, though. Neither of which care about all that openness and open source-ness.
IIRC Nokia actually decided to go for Windows because they couldn't compete with Samsung, actually.

Samsung puts TouchWizz on their devices, so yes they do infact care about the fact Android is free to modify.

They don't really care for other users modifying it, though, which kind of goes against the entire point of it all.

Are we talking about the people buying the phones or the people making the phones? Because I'm telling you why no companies in their right mind would be making a Windows phone over an Android phone at the current time, especially a company like Samsung with a huge mindshare (though they could probably put a re-skined Meego or whatever it's called today on their phones and a good portion of people wouldn't notice).
Most android phones don't even run jellybean.

Okay, I'm confused myself :v
For the phone makers, I think what attracts them to Android is the large app library and that it is free - they don't really care about that it's open source.
For the phone users - Androids would be cheap and run Instagram and all that crap.
AFAIK MS is toying with making Windows Phone free to license, so maybe that could help them a bit.
Most (as in more than 50%) android phones even run jellybean.
Fixed that for ya.

If they can get Android running on the Lumina 1020, they can get a custom ROM on this phone.

What?
I've seen pictures of it(and it was gorgeous), but this is all I can seem to find about it.
Turns out It was a 920.
[editline]26th December 2013[/editline]
Or I'm completely wrong, I dunno. Can't find anything on it now.

Perhaps you saw pictures of Nokia N9, it's a bit like the Lumia 800, but it ran a Linux-based OS, so it had an Android port.
But yeah, if this thing ever comes out, there will be stock Android for it.
I do.
Nexus 4.
He probably meant "OEM modified", so not counting AOSP.

Which is pretty much exactly their plan, they've been working on Tizen for ages with the goal of it being their phone OS.
I'd laugh if their Android based devices ends up selling like hot & fresh muffins at a christmas sale compared to their Windows based devices.
They're forking Android and replacing all the Google shit with their own stuff, so it's kind of like Android, except without apps.
You're better off buying a Moto G if you want a budget device.
awesome windows phones, mine was defective and died after a month or so, but for the time I had it it was a great phone. Very nice feeling construction, very fast, great screen
You guys are completely missing the fact that this is for their Asha phones.
AKA, the $30-$80 dumbphones or psudo-smartphones that are extremely popular in lower income countries.
Android running on these will likely be just using it as a base for a dumbphone
Nokia Microsoft (aka the main branch of nokia that is going to be acquired by MS) is still WP8 exclusive for their main smartphones.
So basically a cheap android nokia phone. If they're trying to force it to fail I think they're doing it wrong.
Ive had my S3 for over a year now. I only updated the software so I have no fucking clue whaf you guise are on about ROM, OSs, OEMs. Im good at PCs, but not phones.
I still want Lumia 920 with free access bootloader. That's gonna be better than any Android cheapphones made by what's left of Nokia after the deal with MS.
Or to be blunt, I want new HTC HD2.
Wait, why do you guys hate Windows Phone?
I don't hate Windows Phone. It's just that servers I use run Linux, my desktop runs Linux, and my notebook runs Linux as well, it would be kinda silly to buy a windows phone on top of all that, if for no other reason then due to compatibility issues, plus I kinda do want to be able to root the device and do Whatever I Want With It.
Wait, why do you guys hate Windows Phone?
I generally find it an overall more unpleasant experience than Android, this coming from someone who has both.
One particularly irritating thing in WP8 is the lack of options in general; very little customization. For example, in Android I could use a slider to adjust brightness, WP8 has low, medium, high (where low seems to be the coronasphere of the goddamn Sun) and auto (which seems to be like a candlelight on the Moon from the perspective of the Earth). The system in general seems to be a lot more locked down.
Also the lack of apps is an issue; in my case the default music players are rather pants, and the third-party app options aren't much better, either. With Android it took me all of 2 minutes to find Rocket Player, which is perfect for my use.
Nokia is actually planning to invade England. Hence the name "Normandy."

You know a mobile OS is bad and limiting when even iOS is more flexible and tweakable.
And Apple is a strong believer in babying their users with a walled garden, so it ain't like Apples likes to give the users many choices in the first places.
Right; Android is Free and Open Source, that's why it's successful.
Open Source, yes, but in no way capital-F Free.
On topic, I don't know if I really want to buy another Android phone whenever I replace my HTC One V. Unfortunately, is currently the least bad choice.

But Samsung did make a Windows phone, Samsung Ativ S
Boycotting Nokia since they sold their soul to Microsoft. Fucking Stephen Elop.
When i had my wp 7.5 device i liked how it had a lot of battery life and it was fast, but at the end of the day it was just shit, locked down, not much to do
Whereas with Android i am able to make the phone how i want it and to me it makes my phone a lot better because it looks and acts different
I love Windows Phones environment, and its making gradual progress but honestly its got a lot of work ahead of itself to beat iOS and Android
