Dual source: Ex-Shell president sees $5 gas in 2012

Screw this shit, I'm going to start riding horses as a primary source of transportation. The combined cost of vet bills, farrier charges, and horse feed is far cheaper than gasoline alone.
Well when you have scientists saying that everything is because of global warming. I find it just as hard to believe them. We have snow, it's global warming. We don't have snow, it's still global warming.
Climate change doesn't work that way.
Global warming doesn't mean every location generally gets hotter (aka, no more snow in winter.) It means seasons will be a lot more extreme; summers will be hotter, and winters will be colder.
How is that Global Warming? Warming implies Heat, heat = hot. So Global warming should equal the planet getting hotter.

I know, that's what drives me crazy when I hear/read that argument.

Global warming isn't really a good to describe what's happening to the planet. Climate change is better.

Like how they used to call AIDS Gay-related immune deficiency. They changed the name when they realized it didn't really fit.
"Climate change" may fit better, but that doesn't mean that it's caused by a life gas. I'm more willing to trust a British meteorologist and astrophysicist that gets the weather right 85% of the time then a "Climate Scientist" just because I believe these Scientists are only under a consensus for the money.

warmer in tropical places can mean more severe winters in other places
it's called air currents, bro

Who the fuck profits from global warming? It makes everything harder/more expensive. Why would anyone spend decades studying the effects we have on the climate, making shit money and being ridiculed by uneducated people like you waste their time?
Also, yes the planet is getting hotter. As is, 2-3 degrees worldwide. It may not sound like much but it can have massive effects on the environment.

Yep. Because none of us commute to another city, and all of us can bike in the winter. Bikes are the answer to all of our problems. :D

they can help
if you bike in the summer instead of drive, at least you're not driving that summer

this whole glaber thing is starting to make sense

Going to another city? Trains. And what's so hard about cycling in winter? I walk and cycle in all weather and have no problems.
Oh no; what ever shall us privileged white Americans do when gas reaches the prices it's been at in the rest of the world for several years.
Decide that fossil fuels are foolish and make the switch to other, more efficient forms of fuel?
Just more reason why the US is the biggest illusion in the world. Back in the early 20th century, GM bought as many mass-transportation companies as it could and then phased them out, forcing many suburban Americans to purchase personal vehicles and commute. Some would call that the market in action; I call it a failure of US trust-busting policy. Had we continued to develop our mass-transit, literally millions of Americans today would have safe, reliable commutes, the environment would be much cleaner, scrapyards would not be overflowing with fully-operational-but-outdated vehicles, and the US would be self-reliant instead of fossil-fuel dependent.

Al Gore for one, Obama for another if Cap and trade gets enacted via Legislation, or by Regulation (EPA).
Unfortunately, the prophets of climate doom violate this idea. No matter what happens, it always confirms their basic premise that the world is getting hotter. The weather turns cold and wet? It's global warming, they say. Weather turns hot? Global warming. No change? Global warming. More hurricanes? Global warming. No hurricanes? You guessed it.
Too bad that america will never endorse any research into non-oil based vehicles because they're funded by the oil industry.
Al Gore for one, Obama for another if Cap and trade gets enacted via Legislation, or by Regulation (EPA).
I don't see how Obama profits from that.

y'all realize that al gore donates all the profits from his movie to charity, right? he's got enough other revenue sources (books, speaking, board positions) to profit from global warming
[editline]28th December 2010[/editline]
and if you look at who profits (literally) from global warming denialism, it's the big oil companies, the people who are making the same products that global warming is blamed on
thread reeks of "HAH! AMERICANS! WE HAVE HIGH OIL PRICES AND WE'RE NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT! YOU SHOULD HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT TOO!"
i'm also forcasting dumbs from butthurt euros

artificially low oil prices are a pretty shitty idea
How many necessities does the government provide you? We In the US usually have to get what we need ourselves. We have to pay for Our doctor visits (check ups and such), we have to buy our food and/or the seeds to grow it. We have to pay our electric bills, Water bills (dependent on how you get it), sewer bills. Not to mention the taxes and the fact that some of us actually subscribe for internet access.
When you're jobless, higher gas prices mean you have to narrow your job search range.
If you have a job, that means less disposable money or "entertainment money", or even less food or medicine money.
So yea, Gas prices are a big deal in the US.
The only one of those I don't pay for is doctor's visits. And fuel is very expensive in the UK already.
So, basically, suck it up.

Yes because it's obviously a good idea to ruin what could be a trigger-event into clean, renewable energy sources.
Al Gore for one, Obama for another if Cap and trade gets enacted via Legislation, or by Regulation (EPA).
Al Gore has been investing in green research for years, so yeah, he might make his money back. And Obama's salary doesn't go up when new legislation is enacted.

European countries have enacted laws to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 80%. America sabotaged a treaty to bring in similar laws wordwide. Most European countries have public transport, America has terrible public transport.

Do you have any, and I mean any, capacity for intelligence? The atmosphere is not a static "hot here, cold here" system. As was stated above, the atmosphere is increasing in temperature on average. This is caused by an increasing imbalance in the chemicals that make up the atmosphere, specifically, too much CO2 and CFC and not enough trees to refresh the atmosphere with oxygen. This change is felt mostly toward the equator, where low-pressure, high-temperature systems usually originate. This increase in temperature causes the opposite effect away from the equator, where sea currents and global weather patterns are becoming colder, because heat that is usually carried north by the water is instead becoming trapped in the atmosphere. Unstable weather like this causes unusual patterns, which is why instead of having a reliable pattern of say, 6-named storms per year in the Atlantic, we'll have 4 one year and 10 the next. Climate scientists look for unusual weather patterns, not unusual weather.
CFC? Never heard of it.
I think it's pretty safe to put Glaber on ignore list because in the past 500-600 posts of his I haven't seen a single intelligent notion uttered
